Thiem leads their head-to-head 4-2 overall, but they have split their two meetings in 2019. They have also split their two previous hardcourt clashes. • Thiem is playing at the Erste Bank Open for the 10th straight year (including 2010 qualifying). He began the week with a .500 record (8-8) in his nation’s capital, with his previous best results being quarter-final appearances in 2013 and last year. • World No. 5 Thiem now has the chance to become the first Austrian to claim the championship since Jurgen Melzer earned his second consecutive Vienna title in 2010 by winning an all-Austrian final against Andreas Haider-Maurer. This week, Thiem also became the first Austrian semi-finalist and finalist at the event since 2010. • 26-year-old Thiem is also attempting to become the first player this season to win 5 ATP Tour singles titles. Most Tour-Level Titles in 2019 o Novak Djokovic 4 Matteo Berrettini 2 o Daniil Medvedev 4 Cristian Garin 2 o Rafael Nadal 4 Nick Kyrgios 2 o Dominic Thiem 4 Benoit Paire 2 o Alex de Minaur 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas 2 o Roger Federer 3 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 2 • With his four wins this week, Thiem has now won nine straight matches at ATP 500-level. In his last ATP 500 event, Thiem won the Beijing title earlier this month, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final from a set down. • Schwartzman is seeking his first indoor ATP Tour singles title. Two of his six ATP Tour singles finals have come indoors, but he lost both, at Antwerp in 2016 and 2017. • World No. 15 Schwartzman earned his 39th match-win of 2019 by defeating Gael Monfils in the semi-finals, which ties his career-high for a single season (also 39 wins in 2017). • Schwartzman also remains in contention for the Nitto ATP Finals. He is currently No. 14 in the ATP Race to London, and can move into 12th position with a win in the Vienna final. • 27-year-old Schwartzman would become the second Argentine to win the Vienna title, following Juan Martin del Potro in 2012. Prior to 2012, Argentines had finished as runner-up three times: Guillermo Canas in 2001 and 2004, and del Potro in 2011. • Schwartzman is 7-23 against Top 10 players, but four of those wins came in 2019, including a victory over then-No. 8 Thiem at Buenos Aires. He picked up his fourth Top 10 win of the season this week, when he eliminated No. 9 Karen Khachanov in the quarter-finals. • A win over current World No. 5 Thiem in the Vienna final would be the biggest win of Schwartzman’s career by ranking. This season, he beat two players ranked No. 6 at the time for his current biggest wins by ranking: Kei Nishikori at Rome and Alexander Zverev at the US Open. • Mardy Fish Named Us Davis Cup Captain
MARDY FISH NAMED U.S. DAVIS CUP CAPTAIN WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., January 9, 2019 – The USTA today announced that former world No. 7 and Davis Cup veteran Mardy Fish has been named the new captain of the U.S. Davis Cup Team. He succeeds Jim Courier to become the 41 st captain in the team’s 120-year history and will make his debut at the newly transformed Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Finals November 18-24 in Madrid, Spain. “Ever since I started playing professionally and started understanding what the Davis Cup was and how special it was, even as a player, I wanted to be the Davis Cup Captain,” Fish said. “I just thought that position was so special – leading the guys and leading the team, building relationships and the team aspect around it. I’m a team-sport athlete stuck in an individual sport, and I love the team aspect of Davis Cup. To even be considered, let alone named the Captain, is incredibly humbling.” In this new era of Davis Cup, the role of Captain will be expanded, with the position working more closely with USTA Player Development throughout the year, as well as traveling to multiple tournaments and camps to support American players, serving as a mentor for American pros and juniors. He will also ensure the U.S. Davis Cup team remains a strong platform to grow the game through the USTA’s Net Generation youth initiative. “Mardy Fish embodies all of the qualities of a successful Davis Cup Captain and will be an invaluable asset to Team USA,” said USTA Chairman of the Board and President Patrick Galbraith.

Because the LTA runs and organises some tournaments (LTA Staged Tournaments), the LTA is able to allocate wild cards in the draws of the events within those tournaments. This policy is a general policy that explains how the LTA chooses the players which receive those wild cards and how the LTA nominates individuals to receive wild cards for The Junior Championships, Wimbledon from the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club Limited (the AELTC). The number of wild cards that are available to the LTA at ITF World Tennis Tour (Men’s & Women’s), ATP and WTA tour level events held in Great Britain is outlined in appendix 1. Specific Tournaments and Events If you would like to learn about a particular tournament or event, you should read the relevant tournament information. For LTA tournaments, you can find tournament-specific information packs in the competition resources area of the LTA website. 2. WHAT THIS POLICY EXPLAINS This policy (the Policy) explains how the LTA will allocate wild cards for LTA Staged Tournaments and how the LTA chooses the individuals who they will nominate to the AELTC to receive wildcards for The Junior Championships, Wimbledon.
