Alleluia! Christ is Risen. The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia What a wonderful time of year, one celebration after another. Having celebrated the Risen Christ – bringing the new light of the world into Trinity Church and flowering the Cross on Easter Sunday. We continue on with the fifty days of Easter finding ourselves here today celebrating the newest member of Christ’ family – joining Christ’ Church, James Evan Phinney, the son of Jacqueline and Evan Phinney and little brother to Ella. Baptism has been referred to as The Right of Passage from the Elizabethan Settlement (Elizabeth I response to the religious divisions created over the reign of Henry VIII, Edward VI and Mary I), mid-16th century onward. The response, described as “The Revolution of 1559” set two Acts of the Parliament of England. The Act of Supremacy of 1559 re-establishing the ’s independence from Rome and the Act of Uniformity of 1559 which set out the form the English church would take including the establishment of the Book of Common Prayer (BCP). The Sacrament of Baptism functioned as a key role in extending and strengthening the infant’s kinship with those chosen as godparents. The Rubic’s state: “The Minister of the Parish shall often admonish the people that they bring their children to the Church for Baptism as soon as possible after birth” Our foundation goes back to the covenant God made with Abraham, as recorded in Genesis 17, “I will confirm my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers ”God continued and established a covenant with Noah in Genesis 6, and in Genesis 9 as well as with Moses The Anglican Church celebrates two (2) Sacraments namely Baptism and the . To these the Anglican Church lists five other Sacraments, , Confession, Unction (anointing of the sick), Orders () and Matrimony. The Anglican Church embraces Baptism and the Eucharist as these two were the only Sacraments that Jesus Christ took upon himself. This morning we are all active participants in James Baptism as we all will be re-affirming our own Baptismal promises. Alleluia, Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed. Alleluia

6 ANNOUNCEMENTS

NOTICES:  Trinity - one time only - Job Opportunity - Trinity is looking for a safe cracker - preferably one who has the combination of the vault in the basement. It has been some time since anyone remembers when this was opened last - and apparently the secret numbers were put in a 'safe' place - so safe - no one seems to remember where. If any of the past Wardens or others have these magic numbers committed to memory or documented, we would like to have the vault opened.  The Trinity Tower Clock – the electric self-winding Westminster Chime was installed July 1926 and has been maintained meticulously over the past ninety one years by gifted and passionate craftsmen. Like all mechanical mechanisms, the steady hand of faithful stewards is a necessity. Our current time piece curator, Mr. Brian Perry, would like to train an interested party to gain his knowledge and to provide relief so that the legacy of Trinity Tower Time is towering over the uptown for many years to come. The physical aspect of this work requires stair climbing up to the clock level. If you feel so called; let the Priest know. Thank you.  Trinity Spring Used Book Sale - the dates have been set for this bi-annual event. We’d appreciate your contribution of books, cd’s, tapes, cassettes, but NO dictionaries, Thesaurus, magazines, sheet music, soiled or musty books, or books without covers as we just end up putting such items in the recycling bin. Please let your friends and neighbours know what we need, and what we can’t accept and bring them to the church hall, outside the elevators, any afternoon 1:30- 4:30 Monday – Friday, or Sunday at church time. We need help to arrange the books on the sale date at 2:00 p.m. and to be present during the sale to help people find books they ask about. We may have coffee and donuts or some treats for sale, if someone wants to take on this role speak to me. The dates of the sale are May 12 – 4:00-7:00pm and May 13th - 9:00 - 11:30am David Goss at [email protected] or 672- 8601. If someone has a large donation, I will try to arrange to pick it up if notified by May 7.  Parish Officers Day - May 6th at St. John the Evangelist Hall, Parish of Douglas and Nashwaaksis , 75 Main Street, Fredericton North. It is time to get your registrations in so that we can plan for the day. As noted, this is the new version of what was previously called "Wardens and Treasurers Day" and it is now expanded to include topics of interest to more people such as Parish Clergy and Vestry Clerks and vestry members. This is all part of parish professional development so if you can't make it personally, please make sure that someone from the parish attends and can bring back a report on the day for discussion. (Guest speakers confirmed include the Diocesan Chancellor, David Bell, and The Rev. Canon Ross Hebb, member of the Diocesan Archives Committee, Gil Carter - Chair of the Finance Committee and Maren McLean, Director of Camp Medley) We are also encouraging participants to bring along contributions to the Camping Ministry A-B-C list which has been posted on the Diocesan event registration site. This will be an opportunity for many of you to meet the new Personnel and Safe Church Officer, Allan MacLean - who started working in the Synod Office on April 3rd. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please let me know and if you get this message and have already signed up, my apologies and thanks! Regards. Irene
