ANNUAL REPORT 2015 16_A70_TV_Acad_Ad.qxp_Layout 1 7/8/16 11:43 AM Page 1 PROUD MEMBER OF »CBS THE TELEVISION ACADEMY 2 ©2016 CBS Broadcasting Inc. MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AS THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF CONTENT HAVE INCREASED in what is widely regarded as television’s second Golden Age, so have employment opportunities for the talented men and women who create that programming. And as our industry, and the content we produce, have become more relevant, so has the relevance of the Television Academy increased as an essential resource for television professionals. In 2015, this was reflected in the steady rise in our membership — surpassing 20,000 for the first time in our history — as well as the expanding slate of Academy-sponsored activities and the heightened attention paid to such high-profile events as the Television Academy Honors and, of course, the Creative Arts Awards and the Emmy Awards. Navigating an industry in the midst of such profound change is both exciting and, at times, a bit daunting. Reimagined models of production and distribution — along with technological innovations and the emergence of new over-the-top platforms — have led to a seemingly endless surge of creativity, and an array of viewing options. As the leading membership organization for television professionals and home to the industry’s most prestigious award, the Academy is committed to remaining at the vanguard of all aspects of television. Toward that end, we are always evaluating our own practices in order to stay ahead of industry changes, and we are proud to guide the conversation for television’s future generations. -

“Things Fall Apart” Guest: Jennifer Palmieri
The West Wing Weekly 6.21: “Things Fall Apart” Guest: Jennifer Palmieri [Intro Music] HRISHI: You’re listening to the West Wing Weekly. I’m Hrishikesh Hirway. JOSH: And I’m Joshua Malina. HRISHI: Today we’re talking about episode 21 from season 6, it’s called “Things Fall Apart.” JOSH: This episode was written by Peter Noah and directed by Nelson McCormick. It first aired on March 30th 2005. HRISHI: I don’t believe we’ve heard the name Nelson McCormick before. Is that someone whose directed The West Wing before? JOSH: No, I think not. This is his first of what will turn out to be two episodes of The West Wing. He also directed an episode called “Transition.” Which we’ll get to. Oh we’ll get to it. HRISHI: Joining us later on this episode Jennifer Palmieri, Communications Director for the Hillary Clinton campaign and formerly for the Obama White House. JOSH: What do you think of this one? HRISHI: I, I like the plot of this episode. I think it’s interesting what happens with the convention and the nomination process, but the execution of it, I have issues with here and there. Really just a few moments here and there in the writing. JOSH: I think we will find ourselves in accord as I wrote down ‘Great bones, not enough meat’ HRISHI: Hey look at that. Yeah. That’s a good way of putting it. And before we jump into our discussion, here’s a synopsis from Warner Brothers. “The success of the impeccably organized Republican convention contrasts with the Democrats who look in disarray as the candidates continue to battle to be the Democratic Party Presidential nominee. -

Protecting Our Wate R USF Researchers Find Solutions for Healthy Water Around the World First Look
THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE of the USF ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SPRING 2017 UNIVERSITY of SOUTH FLORIDA System Protecting our Wate r USF researchers find solutions for healthy water around the world First Look 2 UNIVERSITY of SOUTH FLORIDA Photos: KATY HENNIG MA ’16 Photos: KATY FOSSIL RECORD TO PRESERVE THE HEALTH OF OUR WATERWAYS for the future, we must understand their past, says Professor Emeritus Albert Hine, PhD. To unravel the geologic history of Florida and Tampa Bay, Hine dug back over 700 million years. His surprising results have been documented in his book, The Geological History of Florida – the Major Events that Formed the Sunshine State, and an award-winning multi-media project, Tampa Bay Water Story, produced by Katy Hennig, MA ’16. “In one of our projects, we discovered buried freshwater lake sediments in Tampa Bay,” Hine says. “From about 20,000 years ago to about 10,000 years ago, Tampa Bay was partly a freshwater lake. The best record of early humans in Florida, what they ate and how they lived, is right there slightly beneath the seafloor of the bay.” Hine, who specializes in geological oceanography, collects and uses fossils to help tell the story of Florida’s land and water. “Our appreciation for beauty helps remind us of the importance of protecting our natural environment,” he says. CBS Studios International and Sky U.K. Announce New, Expanded Multi-Year, Multiseries Licensing Agreement
CBS Studios International and Sky U.K. Announce New, Expanded Multi-Year, Multiseries Licensing Agreement December 3, 2018 New Agreement to Include CBS Hit Freshman Series “FBI,” Along with Additional Seasons of “Madam Secretary,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Elementary” and “The Late Late Show with James Corden” AMSTERDAM and LONDON – Dec. 3, 2018 – CBS Studios International and Sky in the U.K. today announced a new, expanded licensing agreement for CBS programming, including the new fall drama FBI, along with some of the most successful U.S. series on Sky: HAWAII FIVE-0, ELEMENTARY and MADAM SECRETARY. The agreement also secures Sky as the home of THE LATE LATE SHOW with JAMES CORDEN on U.K. television, with the exclusive weekly highlights series announced in February this year continuing on Sky One. Additionally, the new agreement will see the return of audience favorites HAWAII FIVE-0, currently a top 10 series on Sky One, along with MADAM SECRETARY and ELEMENTARY, which both broadcast on Sky Witness and continue to rate as top 10 series on the channel. “For many years, we have successfully delivered Sky a slate of broad, powerful, advertiser-friendly series,” said Stephen Tague, Executive Vice President, Client Relations, EMEA, for CBS Studios International. “We think FBI is a terrific addition to the Sky schedule, building on the consistency and reliability that broadcasters have come to expect from CBS programming.” FBI is a fast-paced drama about the inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is from Emmy AwardÒ winner Dick Wolf and the team behind the “Law & Order” franchise.
