  • NEWSLETTER to PARENTS and CARERS October 2014
NEWSLETTER TO PARENTS and CARERS October 2014 Trinity School CO-HEADTEACHERS’ LETTER Dear Parents and Carers As the days begin to get shorter it is incredible to think that more than six weeks of this school year have flown by already. Our new Year 7 students are very well settled now and we have seen them grow in confidence as they take part in the daily life of the school. We look forward to celebrating their first half term at Trinity with them in the Cathedral service next week, at which parents are very welcome. It has been a busy and productive half term. As a senior team we spend a lot of time in classrooms on our learning walks and we have seen students taking their learning seriously, showing a very positive approach and making real progress. A number of school governors have joined us in our visits to classrooms and all have commented on the engagement of the students and the buzz in our classrooms. We have also had families of Year 6 children touring the school during the day and your children have represented our school very well indeed. We have been delighted to welcome Caroline Kennedy as Chaplain to cover Jen Milligan’s maternity leave. She joined us towards the end of September and has spent time so far meeting students and staff, visiting lessons and assemblies and looking with us at ways that we can best continue to develop as a Church of England School with the distinctive ethos that brings. We will be writing to you again shortly after half term to ask for your help in improving the school.

  • NEWSLETTER to PARENTS and CARERS December 2014
NEWSLETTER TO PARENTS and CARERS December 2014 Trinity School CO-HEADTEACHERS’ LETTER Dear Parents and Carers Here is the final newsletter for 2014, a busy and eventful year for the school. Thank you for your support and encouragement this term, for the work you do with us to ensure that our students become the best they can be. The key question we have posed to students this term, with reference to both Walt Whitman’s poem and the late Robin William’s performance in ‘Dead Poets’ Society’, is ‘What will your verse be?’ It is such an honour to witness our students as they take up the opportunities that are offered to them and ‘write their verse.’ We will be sad to say goodbye to two staff at the end of term. Mr Lythgoe, Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Pastoral care, leaves us to become Principal of Deyes Studio School on Merseyside. We are very grateful to him for the excellent work he has done to ensure that our students are well cared for in his time on the school’s Senior Leadership team. We also say goodbye to Mrs Parker, second in the English department, who leaves us to become Head of English at St Benedict’s School in Whitehaven. We will miss them both and wish them well as they take up their new posts. We have made a number of appointments to cover the staff who are leaving. Mr Charnock joins the Senior Team as Assistant Headteacher for Behaviour and Safety. Mr Hall, Head of Nile House, will also work with the Senior Team for the remainder of the year, whilst continuing as Head of House, as Senior Project Leader with a close focus on classroom conduct.

  • A Lifetime of Analysis
Second Edition A LIFETIME OF ANALYSIS A Brief History of the North West Region of the Analytical Division of the Royal Society of Chemistry in Celebration of its 75th Anniversary 1924 - 1999 Preface “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and the women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages…” (The Seven Ages of Man from “As you Like It”) William Shakespeare wrote these words at the turn of the century some four hundred years ago and they seem very appropriate to introduce this brief history of the N. W. Region of the Analytical Division of the Royal Society of Chemistry. This year, 1999, our Region celebrates its 75th birthday and, although recent statistics show we are now living longer than ever before, it is fair to say that this milestone on our history truly represents “A Lifetime of Analysis”. Shakespeare’s lines are also apt because the N.W. Region is actively involved in promoting analytical chemistry at all ages from 7 to 70+. Together with local schools we organise fun events for primary school children and more serious activities, such as the Schools Analyst Competition, for senior students. We have developed the Analytical Science Network for those starting their careers in analysis, and organise a programme of scientific meetings covering a wide range of specialist subjects for practising analysts. Our special way of keeping in touch with our retired members is through our Long Service Members Lunches, and we never forget that “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” so we organise a variety of social events for all ages.

  • NEWSLETTER to PARENTS and CARERS APRIL 2013
NEWSLETTER TO PARENTS and CARERS APRIL 2013 Headteacher’s Letter Dear Parents and Carers, Our attempts to write to you all on the second Friday of the month are thwarted again by the moveable feast of Easter … so please blame the Church and/or the moon for the lateness of this month‟s letter to you at the start of this term! But welcome back to everyone – I hope that the Easter weekend was splendid for everyone and that a good holiday, with rest, relaxing and refreshment was enjoyed by all, whether you were experiencing cool but sunny Carlisle or escaped to further afield. Well done to the Year 11 students for all the hard and good work done at home and in school in preparation for GCSE exams ahead, and to Sixth Form students too preparing for their A level exams, which start all too soon this term. Best wishes to everyone for them. Congratulations to all of the students involved in the very successful sports‟ tour to Holland – more information about that later in this letter, as there is also about other events in school recently and yet to come in the first half of this term. Rather unusually, we are saying farewell to two members of staff at the start of this term: Mrs Ray leaves our Modern Languages department having been an assistante and teacher of French here, and Ms Ghahhary leaves our English department at the end of April … to go to Australia! Our thanks to both of them for their service to the school and best wishes to them for what lies ahead.
