Growing up in a musical family, Ricky became an accomplished singer and mandolin player, by the time he reached his teens. By the age of 21 he had become an acknowledged master. He began his professional career playing bluegrass in 1971, when he and friend, late country singer, Keith Whitley, were invited by Ralph Stanley to join his band. He performed with J.D. • Fan Club Newsletter
Volume 64 Sept - Oct, 2019 GENE WATSON Fan Club Newsletter Hi Friends – It seems it has finally turned into Fall in most parts of the country. Maybe not in Texas but I hear it’s changing in Tennessee and most of the East Coast. I prefer the cooler weather so I’m ready for this. We’re staying busy on the road in these months leading up to Christmas (can you be- lieve it’s coming right up!). We’ve got shows in Kentucky, Virginia, Oklahoma, Texas and two in Branson, MO so make your plans to come see us. My office was digging through some of my old photos and came up with these that they asked me about. These photos were taken in 1985. The car I’m working on was my son’s 1984 Monte Carlo SS. The car was stolen and stripped of just about everything. It also was bent and had other issues. Of course that’s just what I like to get my hands on so I wanted to be the one that fixed it up. Naturally I had to paint it. What you see in these photos is me using my own paint gun, changing the paint from plain white paint, to a metallic white paint. I mixed the metallic paint up myself. If I do say so, it turned out great! A bit of trivia for you – It was in the 1930s when metallic paints for cars were first introduced. Unfortunately these paints were first made from actual fish scales and reserved only for the very rich.
