The Bears swept the Tallahassee Regional, with an 2-27 Auburn L 1-4 Cal State Fullerton W 2-1 8-3 victory over Mississippi State and 2-0 and 2-1 victories over Oklahoma State. It is 2-28 Nevada W 5-4 the 10th time in the last 11 years the Bears have won their Regional to advance in the 3-1 UC Riverside W 8-3 post season. The Bears will be taking on the top overall seed, the Florida Gators. This 3-6 Northern Illinois W 8-1 is the second consecutive year the Bears’ road to a possible 11th College World Series 3-7 Providence W 3-0 BYU W 4-2 appearance has gone through Gainesville. Last year, the Bears were swept by the Gators 3-8 Fresno State L 3-2 on their home field, falling 4-2 in both games. 3-11 Memphis W 1-0 This will be the third time that the Bears and Gators have faced one another in the 3-12 Wisconsin W 2-0 Hawai’i W 10-1 post-season. In 2000, Cal won a pair of games against Florida, 2-0 and 2-1, at the Fresno 3-13 St. John’s W 6-2 Regional. The Bears went on to defeat Fresno State in the Regional Final and advanced 3-14 Radford -- Cancelled to the CWS. Utah -- Cancelled Starting pitcher Marissa Drewrey, a first-team All-Pacific Region selection, was the only 3-20 BYU L 0-4 UNLV W 8-0 Bear to toe the rubber in the Regional. Drewrey tossed three complete games, logging a 3-21 Colorado State L 1-2 1.00 ERA. She threw her 10th shutout of the season in the second game of the Regional, 3-22 Cal Poly L 1-4 Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Oklahoma State. Drewrey, who struggled with injuries midway 3-24 at Sacramento State L 1-2 through the season, finished out the year strong. In her last 12 appearances, Drewrey 3-25 at Pacific W 11-6 3-27 Washington L 1-9 is 8-0 with a 1.26 ERA. Her success has come in getting strikeouts in key situations. 3-28 UCLA W 7-6 In 55.2 innings since April 24, she has struck out 48 batters. and opposing hitters are 3-29 UCLA W 9-5 batting just .137 with runners on base. In that same span, Drewrey has 13 strikeouts to 4-3 at Oregon L 0-7 4-4 at Oregon State L 4-5 end innings and has punched out four as game-clinching final outs. 4-5 at Oregon State W 12-3 On the offensive side, the balance of the Bears attack showed itself in the Regional. 4-9 at Stanford L 4-1 Freshman outfielder Frani Echavarria was swinging the hot bat, connecting for seven 4-10 Stanford W 3-1 singles in nine at-bats (.778). Sophomore catcher Sanoe Kekahuna ignited the offense in 4-11 Stanford W 8-6 4-15 Saint Mary’s W 1-0 the opener against Mississippi State, going 2-for-2 with two home runs. The NCAA national championship in 2002 was the first by a women’s team in Cal athletic program history. Cal has appeared in seven of the last 10 NCAA WCWS, and 10 overall, including three appearances in AIAW College World Series. 24 straight NCAA Tournament appearances - the longest streak by any Pac-10 school (second-longest in the nation). Cal has not had a losing season since 1973 - a span of 35 years.
