Shropshire Parish Registers Shropshire Archives Holds Copies Of Shropshire Parish Registers Shropshire Archives holds copies of most of the parish registers for the county. Most of these registers, up to 1900, can now be searched and viewed as full colour images on the Find My Past website. This list will tell you which registers are held for each parish and the alternative formats which are available. How to Use this List 1st Column The name of the parish appears in the first column. 2nd Column The second column lists the microfiche or microfilm copies that are available. These are photographic copies of the original records. You will need to book a microfiche or microfilm reader to view these. In the case of microfiche, the numbers in brackets refer to individual fiche numbers. For example CB 1690-1812 (23-37) shows that christenings and burials for those dates will be found on fiches numbered 23 to 37 in that particular parish. Entries in italics in this column indicate that the registers are on microfilm. 3rd Column The third column gives the dates of those registers, which have been printed. All of these volumes have name and place indexes. They are available on the Reading Room shelves. 4th Column The fourth column lists all the transcripts, which are available. Where there is an index to the transcript this is indicated by (I) after the covering dates. These are also available on the Reading Room shelves. 5th Column The fifth column lists which years are available as original registers only. You will need a Readers Ticket to order these in the Search Room. 6th Column The sixth column lists which registers are available on the Find My Past website www.findmypast.co.uk. The dates listed are the first and last years indexed - they may be complete runs, but they may also contain considerable gaps. The Banns indexes produced by Find My Past do not necessarily relate to Banns registers. Not all pre-1900 Banns registers have been digitized. • Shifnal Crime
SHIFNAL CRIME Rural Watch – East Shropshire .Rural News from around the Patch A full and thorough investigation is underway following an armed robbery at a bank in Madeley, Telford this afternoon (Monday 20 March) The offence happened at approximately 3pm when a person, entered Lloyd's Bank on the High Street in Madeley. The individual produced what appeared to be a gun, although whether it was real or an imitation gun is unknown, and demanded money before leaving on foot. Nobody was injured in the incident and witnesses and staff have been provided initial support by the investigating officers. The suspect is described as medium build and approximately 5'10" tall. They were dressed all in dark clothing but believed to be wearing black and white trainers. The suspect was carrying a black holdall and they had their face covered during the offence. Superintendent Tom Harding said: "We understand that this crime will be very concerning to the local community and I would reassure you that such a crime is unusual for the Telford area. We will have additional patrols in the Madeley area for the next few days to offer support to the community and identify any further witnesses. I have allocated a significant number of officers to this investigation to ensure we identify and arrest the suspect as soon as possible. To assist us in this I would ask that, as this was a busy time of day in the centre of the town, that anyone who has seen anything suspicious in around the High-Street area this afternoon, or has any other information relating to this serious offence, please call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 411s of 20 March.

  • Shropshire's Churchyard Yews
’CHURCHYARD YEWS painted by Rev. Edward Williams M.A. more than two hundred years ago photographs by Tim Hills between 1997 and 2012 Between 1786 and 1791 Rev. Edward Williams made a record of most of ’parish churches. He was described in The Gentlem’ magazine vol 153 as “ excellent ” who had also “much of ” We are told in The annals and magazine of natural history, zoology and botany - vol 1 p183 that his studies included “ catalogue of all the plants which he had detected during many years' careful herborization of the county of ”for which “accuracy is well known, and perfect reli- ance can be placed on any plant which he ” Williams work thus gives us a rare opportunity to see some of Shropshir’churchyard yew trees as they appeared two hundred and twenty years ago. The examples below give us reason to be confident in the accuracy of his recording. The yew at Boningale (left) now has a girth of about 13ft, while that at Bucknell (centre) now has a girth of about 19ft, and the Norbury giant (right) has a girth above 33ft. His attention to detail is illustrated in this example at Tasley. In the painting we can clearly see that sections of the bole are leaning outwards, a process which has led to the distinctive yew we see today. On the following pages, 28 of the yews in ’paintings are seen as they appeared two hundred and twenty years ago and at they are now. We are grateful to Shropshire Archives for granting us permission to use their material in this way.

Recommendation:- Refuse Acton Arms Hotel Morville Bridgnorth Planning Committee – 16 February 2021 Shropshire WV16 4RJ 1. Although it is recognised that the proposal would contribute to the social objective by adding to the supply of housing in the village, potentially increasing the likelihood of the PH re- opening and there would be some limited economic benefit through the construction process, this development would result in the number of commitments and completions further exceeding the housing guideline (15 dwellings) set out in SAMDev policy S3.2 (iii) the by an additional 3 dwellings which is significant, in the light of the existing number of dwellings completed and commitments made (28 dwellings). This over-provision, that the scheme would add to, would undermine other elements of the development strategy for the area such as to direct development to areas with greatest access to facilities and as such, would not represent a suitable site for housing, with regard to the Council's housing strategy and would fail to accord with Policy CS4 of the CS and Policies MD1, MD3 and Policy S3.2 (iii) of the SAMDev regarding the scale and distribution of housing development in the area.
