4 SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT The safety of your children is our number one priority

We have • provided a secure boundary around our site • provided perspex portals at child height to allow them to safely see what is happening on the building site • provided a hoarding for the children to decorate along with competitions for the best • carried out talks to the children covering • health and safety • progress to date including safely viewing the workers on site

5 SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT The safety of your children is our number one priority

The construction works at St Marks are also a learning opportunity. Adam our Site manager has to date carried 4 sessions with the pupils both in the classroom and on site • With year 1-6 after the Caretakers House demolition • With nursery/reception discussing planning and construction • With nursery/reception on the use of building materials • With years 1 and 2 looking at the new extension foundations We also have planned a session with years 3 to 6 once the steel frame for the new extension has been constructed. There is also a weekly “ask Adam” when four questions from the pupils relating to construction are put to Adam. It’s only a matter of time before we get a question that’s too difficult to answer!! Video uploads of site progress are also provide on a regular basis. We also have planned a time capsule. The school are currently considering what items to put in the capsule and it will be buried within the new extension for discovery in many years to come. ARJ have enjoyed working with The School to engage the pupils and staff in the construction process. There will be more opportunities to do this throughout the build.

6 DAY TO DAY MANAGEMENT Pre-construction • Full health and safety method statement prepared and agreed with the school • Agreed sequence and programme for the works with the school • Agreed quiet periods • Project has been registered with Considerate Constructors Scheme • Regular H&S audit carried out

Maximum Planned Working Hours • Works will be in accordance with the planning approval: • Monday - Friday 8am - 6pm • Saturday 8am - 1pm

7 DAY TO DAY MANAGEMENT Construction • Daily Liaison with the school to discuss daily activities • Weekly review with the school to look at the planned woorks and review previous weeks works • Monthly site progress meetings • Fortnightly design team meetings

8 DAY TO DAY MANAGEMENT Key facts for this project • Segregation between the building site and the school • Supervision of deliveries and workforce • DBS checks • Communication with the Client and Client Project Management team • Ensuring good communications between ARJ, school staff, the pupils and the general public • Consultation with the workforce • The Exchange of Design Information between the Client, Designers, CDM Co-ordinator & Contractors on Site • Vehicles to use the designated access route under the control of Traffic Marshall • Risk assessments/method statements prepared and reviewed for each operation on site Communication is the key to this project (Open and Regular)

9 METHODOLOGY AND LOGISTICS • No deliveries will take place within pupil pick-up and drop-off times between, • 08:00 - 09:15 and • 14:30 - 15:45. • Additionally, provision will be made between07:45 - 08:30 and 18:00 when wrap around care begins and ends.

10 PHASE 1 PROGRESS Internal refurbishment and external play areas Following a busy 6 weeks in the summer the Phase one refurbishment works were completed on time. The new breakfast club, kitchen and classrooms provide bright modern teaching spaces for pupils and teachers alike. Toilet areas were also altered and refurbished.

11 PHASE 1 PROGRESS Internal refurbishment and external play areas In addition, the nursery/reception play areas were completely remodelled with the provision of securely fenced soft and hard play areas and a covered sand pit. Two new external canopies have also been provided. Existing play equipment has been relocated.

The old caretakers house was also demolished during the summer to make way for the Phase two extension.
