Australian Red Cross Every year the Australian Red Cross Blood Service holds National Blood Donor Week (Sunday 11th – Saturday 17th June 2017) to celebrate this country’s 495,000 life-saving blood donors. To coincide with the event, a recognition presentation for milestone blood donors will be held at Lismore City Hall. Donors who have contributed milestone blood donations of 50, 100, 150 continuing at intervals of 50 up to 350 within the previous 12-month period are invited and this year 50 milestone blood donors are expected to attend. During National Blood Donor Week recognition events are held in regions all over Australia and the Lismore event will include a short presentation followed by a morning tea. The Red Cross Donor Centre in Lismore, located in Bounty Street near the Lismore City Hall, is encouraging locals to continue their contributions throughout the cooler months. Cancer patients, road trauma victims, women giving birth, and people with blood disorders will still rely on blood donations to help them through this winter. The German chainsaw manufacturer, STIHL recognized Alec Marsh as a small engine expert so Stihl was added to Ongmac's equipment range in 1990. STIHL and John Deere have been two of the companies in the early days of Ongmac History that sold extremely good quality machinery, and created long lasting professional relationships with Ongamc and that has helped Alec build the business into what it is today. Alec Marsh believed STIHL a family owned company themselves are the most professional and driven companies who support their dealers through good and bad times are one of the "key" reasons Ongmac is still in business today.

Offering no end of support and service to Ongmac's growing customer base other manufacturers began looking for distributors in Lismore. After the closure of Lismore Machinery in 1991 Kubota and Silvan offered Ongmac their respective franchises. Ongmac now had a lineup of quality product that even today is not matched anywhere else in the country.

The next few years saw a lot of changes in the Northern Rivers farming community hence the need for Ongmac to maintain its professionalism and service if it was to build on those long standing partnerships with customers and suppliers alike. Hobby farms, Council's, Macadamia Nuts, Sugar Cane, Tropical Fruits and Cattle farms make up the majority of equipment users in Lismore and surrounding areas all of which have specialist requirements.

It will do whatever it takes to make sure that we survive, that’s why when you are about to do something crazy that might injure yourself you get that nauseous feeling in your stomach. So as a Coach, it never ceases to amaze me when I see people that don’t move. They live a sedentary lifestyle and they suffer for it. They take years off their life. It also sets a bad example for their children.

I often compare the activity levels of my children. I have twin 17 year old girls and a boy who is almost 2. Their lives are totally different and society is to blame. My girls are so busy with their HSC and growing up that moving isn’t a priority. My son, on the other hand, isn’t sitting his HSC, therefore he doesn’t sit still much at all. He moves and moves and doesn’t stop. But it is the best thing for him. He has made all of us a bit more active as we are chasing him quite a bit.

We put too much emphasis on things that aren’t quite so important. Sure, education is important but what’s the point of being highly educated if we don’t have our health? We see too many mobility scooters these days and people retiring early because they didn’t take care of themselves. Our bodies need to move to keep us healthy and our joints mobile. Get off the couch, move and get more from life!
