OPERATING PRINCIPLE The EF Series is a liquid level gauge that is installed on the outside of a tank or other vessel. The EF can provide any combination of a local visual indication of liquid level, single or multiple level switch output and a continuous level transmitter output.

The EF series by-pass liquid level gauge utilizes hydrostatic buoyancy principles to indicate liquid level. A float with a built- in fixed magnet inside travels up and down inside the by-pass chamber according to the changing level inside the tank. A visual flag indicator is attached to the chamber to provide local visual indication of the liquid level inside the tank. Each individual flag has two colors, one on each side, and a magnetic element. The magnetic flags will flip as the float inside the chamber passes by each flag going up or down and indicates the liquid level.

Several switch types are available that are magnetically actuated. These switches can be mounted attached to the outside of the chamber at the desired switch activation point. As the magnetic element inside the float passes by the level switch, the built-in reed switch will change state. Level transducers can also be attached to the outside of the EF chamber and will provide analog and/or digital outputs. The EF series by-pass liquid level gauge can provide the functionality of a local visual indicator, a level switch and a level transmitter all in a single device. These optional accessories and example assemblies of the EF series are illustrated here on pages 9 and 10.

18 IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTES

1. The Adjustable type EFB-14 99 series magnetic switches are installed on the adjusting rod provided with EF assemblies when ordered with these switches. The adjusting rod is then fastened to the chamber with two hose clamps (refer to page 10, Fig. 3). 2.The Standard type EFB-1299 series and the Explosionproof Enclosure type EFB-1399 series magnetic switches are to be fastened onto the chamber with a hose clamp. They will come installed onto the assembly with new EF series liquid level gauges (refer to Fig. 4 here and page 10 Fig. 1 and 2). Position magnetic switches as shown in Fig. 5 here. 3. Handle the magnetic switches carefully. The magnetic switch incorporates a sensitive internal component, the reed switch, and as such it is subject to potential damage from any extreme impact. 4. Make sure there is no external magnetic field or source within 4” (10cm) of the switch in order to avoid magnetic interference. 5. Make sure the wiring of any magnetic switch is pointed downward. Fig. 4 6. Ensure that switch wiring is not in contact with any high temperature material. 7. When the magnetic switch is being used to control inductive or capacitive loads care must be taken to ensure long life.
