The North Bank – South StreetHeart of walkway Scotstoun is located to the south of the site, and a major road proposal is located to the north of the site (NorthCommunity Clydeside Centre Route – Reference: T007). This is also identified as part of the proposed Fastlink Route (Reference T002). People, our strength Management and Maintenance of the Scottish Trunk Road Network 09/SW/1203/001 A898 100 Erskine Bridge Temporary Closure of Bridge Footpaths/Cycletracks Consultations EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The recent tragic deaths of two teenage girls on 4th October 2009 have once again brought suicides at Erskine Bridge back into focus. On 16th October there was a further male suicide. In particular, Clydebank Community Council has strongly recommended that the bridge footpaths and cyclepaths be closed until enhanced suicide prevention measures are installed. As a result Transport Scotland instructed Amey to carry out consultations with relevant parties to ascertain their views on temporary closing the Erskine Bridge footpaths and cycletracks. This consultation process identified: • Despite the pedestrian/cyclist survey being carried out during poor Oct/Nov weather, it demonstrated a demand for use of the footpaths and cycletracks on the bridge. This demand is likely to be greater during summer months. • All 6 parties/organisations contacted (councils, police, sustainable transport and cycling groups) are strongly opposed to a temporary closure of the footpaths and cycletracks on the bridge. • One of the main points raised by the cycling groups was that a diversion of approximately 22km involving riding on some very busy roads would be completely unacceptable. The same diversion would apply to pedestrians. • Strathclyde Police would not support, nor be able to man the temporary closure of the footpaths and cycletracks. • Closure of the footways/cycletracks is likely to result in non-compliance of the restrictions and increased risk exposure to regular non-motorised users and other road traffic (i.e.

Parsonage, MBE 8/1/2016 The following gives an idea of what the world was like at the end of the 1700’s, it tells of the foundation of the Glasgow Humane Society, of the Awards and Gifts given to the Society and of some of the main occurrences in its development. 1. The Glasgow Humane Society and Enlightenment: The Spirit of an Age The Glasgow Humane Society was set up by members of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow at some point in the 1790s. This period marked the latter stages of what has been came to be termed as the ‘Enlightenment’ or ‘Enlightenment movement’ by historians and other scholars alike. It is notable for many features but for the Glasgow Humane Society’s purpose it can be seen as a time when the influence of scholars and philosophers such as Descartes, Newton, Kant, Goethe, Voltaire, Rousseau, and Adam Smith – to name but a few – created in Europe a temperament in man for reason and self- improvement and moving away from religious intolerance and ignorance.     Yoker – Renfrew Ferry Service noted – Instruction to the Executive Director of Corporate Services. 10 The committee heard a presentation by Clyde Link outlining its Yoker to Renfrew ferry service on the River Clyde, advising that (1) Clyde Link was a part of the Silvers Marine Group and was formed in 2010 to provide Waterbus services throughout Scotland; (2) passenger numbers on the ferry service had risen compared with the Strathclyde Passenger Transport average, in the first 6 weeks of Clyde Link operating the service; (3) when the new ferry service started there were more passengers travelling from the Renfrew side of the River Clyde but this had settled over recent weeks with 51% to 53% of passengers originating in Yoker; (4) the “Silver Swan” was now used to transport passengers, a new boat which had undercover seating, heating, storage for pushchairs/bikes and was capable of servicing other locations on the river; (5) the environment around the slipway at Yoker required to be improved; (6) better road signage would increase awareness of the ferry service; (7) Clyde Link was supportive of a cohesive River Strategy in Glasgow; and (8) Clyde Link, as an employer, was not eligible to participate in Glasgow City Council’s Apprenticeship Scheme as employment with the company did not lead to educational qualifications. Following discussion, the committee (a) noted that (i) Clyde Link had installed a new shelter at the Yoker Terminal; (ii) every 2 tides washed up approximately 1 to1½ tonnes of litter at the Yoker terminal which Clyde Link
