Ward Glen Carried down an injured soldier who Taylor and bruised his back in ‘Y’ Gully ‘Tryfan’ Smyton Strawson

Bogle Pen-y-pass - Grib Goch – Grib-y-ddysal- Jones Snowdon, descending via the Pyg Track Patterson to Pen-y-pass.

Storer Completed the Snowdon Horseshoe Harman Baines Tryfan – Pitch 1 of Gashed Crag, followed Brown Apex route till Arête Climb was joined at about the third Pitch, finished off on Pitch 4 of Gashed Crag - descending down the North Ridge.

Young Idwal Slabs - Tennis Shoe ↑ - Hargreave Slab↑ Kirkpatrick Clogwyn-y-Tarw - An attempt was made to climb a crack to the left of Rocking Chair, but things proved too difficult after completing 20 feet of the climb.

Distance 35 miles.

Rule joined party (3). Party(2) returned with bad feet and stomachs at Church Stretton (probably due to the fact that a water bottle was filled up from a stream by the base camp).

Team alerted 22:10 hrs 9.7.66. Team left base 01:00 hrs 10.7.66. Arrived Wrexham police station 01:30 hrs. Area searched. Rough Triangle between Oswestry, Whitchurch, Wrexham and Nantwich. Search by Road only in 2 landrovers. Reason:- Pilot (Mr Marsden) was expected to clear himself from Hawarden airport he did not. Little information was available and a very frustrated and tired team was called off the search at 09:00 on the 10/7/66 when Mr Marsden phoned in to say that he had landed at another airfield (Private) altogether. Team returned to RAF Stafford for 12:30 hours on the 10th. ----o0o---- Weekend 15 – 17 July

The day was miserable at first but cleared up magnificently about lunchtime and everyone got a chance to see what hills they had traversed in the last 2 ½ days. Needless to say another good day.

31.8.66 DAY OFF. Every one was glad of this day and time was spent in drying clothes, lounging about -washing and cleaning!!! A lovely day.

1.9.66. The day dawned (though we didn't see the dawn) miserable – rain & high winds. Short routes were the order of the day :- Brown, Wood Pirnnill, 2345 , Baines, Harmann & Smyton Beinn Bhreac Meall Bhig ↓ Fairhaven.

Young set out to do reciprocal Jones of the above route but Catling due to conditions turned Bogle back at Meall Nan Damh. Kirkpatrick Keane. Conditions were poor, heavy rain, high winds. Cagoules were soon soaked.

Due to Pattison's sickness, flu?? Base was run by him. (Epic soup).

2.9.66. Short routes again.

3.9.66 A good lie in bed. Packed up base after lunch. Caught the 16.00 ferry and arrived back to Stafford at 03.30 on the 4.9.66. An excellent week in which all the 14 major peaks in Arran were climbed by most team members. Some more than once ie Chir Mhor which is in the centre of the ridges. Food was good and we only ran out of sugar.

Low cloud base and occasional showers of rain prevailed throughout the day, and these conditions proved excellent to both the older and newer members of the team for navigational purposes. Taylors party, due to a navigational error, came down off the hill five miles from the intended point and thus caused a delay in the pick up of one of the parties. Sunday. Rock Climbing a trip was made to Rivileu Edge although no climbing was done here. AGDEN ROCHER. A lower was made with the McInnes stretcher. It was found that this crag is not the most suitable place for practice lowers due to a shortage of belays.

Wednesday 4.10.66 Helicopter Exercise Sgt Baines & 15 members of the team visited RAF Ternhill for instruction in Helicopter rescue methods. After a brief lecture by one of the squadrons instructors we were ferried across the airfield by helicopter and a winching exercise took place; the members of the team acting as casualties. Weekend 7 – 9 October. Base camp Tatham Bridge

Saturday. A radio line search exercise took place on Whernside Fell. Keane acted as casualties and was carried down on a McInnis stretcher to the Hill Inn 2 miles away. Members taking part. Sunday Walking Parties over Pen-Y-Gent Storer Glen Adams Foster Pye Wilbraham Alder. The rest of the team went potholing with Manchester University Speliological club down a new pot. This was probably only the 4th descent and is not yet named.

Remarks of N.C.O. S/c.... For a change it did not rain at Tatham Bridge. The pot-holing was the highlight of the week-end. The pot was reckoned to be in the V.Diff class and was totally wet. It consisted of a long crawl, a 45ft ladder pitch down a waterfall a bedding crawl, 35ft waterfall pitch and a passage to the sump. Because of the large numbers total time underground was over 4 hours. An accident also occurred at the 1st ladder pitch. A large flake (3-4 ft long) fell about 20 ft and hit Jim Watson on the head, shoulder and hand. Apart from this a very good weekend

Friday night after base was set up and 4 parties voluntarily set off to do a night exercise. Only one party completed the course due to bad weather which lasted all night and all day Saturday

Bogle Foster Snowdon by means of Jones (Lew) railway track. A bivouac in Adams the shelter of the Summit Station was made.

Watson A start was made to cross Patterson the Carnedds from Aber to Davies (Tony) Ogwen. Due to bad weather a bivouac was made at the falls and after an uncomfortable night by which time the weather was worse Watson decided not to continue Harman’s party this in view of the weather did not set off. Ward was taken ill and was taken to R.A.F. Valley's sick Qtrs. where he spent the weekend, his party was driven back to base.

Saturday. The weather was still “Manky” cloud base was less than 1000 ft.

Instructed to phone N.R.C.C. before leaving. 18:25 N.R.C.C. instructed the Team to go to N.G.R.108/154697 (Nannerch) and to phone in on the way at Denbigh. Communication being set up by W.O.P. 18:27 Team + Bedford & 1 Landrover (u/s) left base. 18:40 W.O.P. informed by R.C.C. to stand down. No contact possible with Team. Asked Police to help. 19:30. Team arrived Denbigh. Phoned R.C.C. stood down. 19:35. Informed by police of W.O.P.’s request. 20:30 Team left Denbigh for Base. 21:45 Team arrived Base.

Sunday :- The weather took a turn for the better which after the Saturday raised the teams spirits somewhat.

Taylor Crib Goch. Where to young Patterson girls were found to be very Davies distressed and suffering from mild exposure. They were in a party of eight led by a person who did not accept their pleas to go back and he did more to frighten them. The party took them down and after all our spare scran and clothes seemed none the worse for their experience.

(i) R.V.T. misfiring occasionally - this is after a major servicing!! (ii) S.W.B . Landrover u/s gearbox (iii) L.W.B. Landrover u/s awaiting spares at Stafford.

Smyton Glen Castleton to Edale Via Bogle Brown Knoll Davies Castleton Mam Tor Brown Knoll Edale. due to adverse weather conditiond on Sunday the team went on an area familiarisation tour. NCO i/c comment : Apart from the adverse weather conditions the Team was on standby for most of the Sunday for a Royal Flight. This restricted the days program to either a stretcher lower or Rock Climbing. As a result of the weather it was not possible to do either so to be on the safe side for a Royal Flight the Team were on standby at Base.

Sunday: - Base: - Keane. Harmann. Rescue Organisation large scale exercise at Crowden Rifle Range 20 Mountain Rescue Teams participated. We were given an area to search south of Holme Moss T.V. Aerial. Another Team (Royton A.T.C.) searched the northern part of our area in ”mistake” to find OUR “body” on reporting back to H.Q. we were asked to search any other area adjacent to Roytons original area. Royton set off to search their own area. Alast they had to help another team in difficulty!!! The Team then searched half of the adjacent area to Royton & the first half of Roytons. Two “bodies” were found. A lot was learnt on the exercise proved the next day......

Walking parties:- Baines Chipping → Keane Parlick Pike → Adams Fair Snope Fell → → Tom Warings Well → White Moss → Johnny Pyes Clough Top → Hawthornthwaite Fell Top → Holdron Moss → Top of Blay & Moss → Trough of Bowland.

Foster Pattison Reciprocal of McAnn above. Glen Trough of Bowland → Alder Whins Brow → Harrison Brennand Great Hill → → Wolf hole Crag → Salter Fell → Hard Hill Top → Baxton Fell → Burn Fell → Dunsop Bridge. Harmann Set off to Jones (Lou) Reciprocal of Wison Above but turned back after about 3 miles by gamekeeper who maintained that they were on Private Land. The day was unusual in that it was fine but very cold with Gale force winds blowing from E to S.E. direction. The routs were done in record time and several members complained of earache due to the cold wind. Sunday:- The weather deteriorated rapidly & team returned to 16 M.U. Early.

Base:- Coniston (Lake District).

The team (15 men) travelled up in torrential rain, set up base in torrential rain, lived in a mud bath on Saturday left early on Sunday for Stafford with no routes done. A very poor weekend due to the weather. Saturday was spent in visiting Mountaineering equips shops in Ambleside and Keswick. As this was a new base camp in a new area a little local knowledge is gained. In spite of our muddy weekend the base should be quite good normally. Not to be used in the height of summer season due to it being a caravan and camping club site.

Saturday: - Davies (Tony) An early start was made and two parties set off on the Hill, leaving Alder on base and Wilbraham as duty driver. Glen, Keane, Davies (T), Davies (Mick) Crowden, Crowden mead, Black Hill, Holme Bridge.

Taylor, Jones, Harrison, Jones,(WOP) walked the reciprocal. After an hectic time in the spread Eagle the team stood down on the Sunday.
