a project respectful to natural environment FOCuS ON alsTom and history

The project is based on several studies evaluating the surrounding cherbourg physical and biological environment, carried out in offi ce studies as well as by environmental protection associations. These studies pointed out the major issues of this area and enabled us to acquire valuable technical and environmental knowledge. Some additional environmental studies are currently ongoing (fi shery resources, marine mammals…). The coastline retains the memory of the Battle of . The owner will respect the memory of this important historical site especially the saint-nazaire Normandy landings beaches.

Alstom, partner of the owner, plans a suitable project according to fishermen and to create four manufacturing plants other sea users in France to build the wind turbines. >> two plants in saint-nazaire to produce generators and nacelles. Fishing is an essential and emblematic activity in Basse-Normandie. In >> two plants in cherbourg to the Seine bay, it is mainly practiced in the ports of Saint-Vaast-la-hougue, produce blades and masts. Grandcamp-Maisy, Port-en-Bessin, Courseulles-sur-Mer, Ouistreham, with a production capacity of Trouville and honfl eur. 100 wind turbines per year dedicated The wind farm implementation, the wind turbine alignments and the to the French and overseas power cables position between the wind turbines have been specifi cally market, these plants would create designed to respect the fi shing activities and other usages of the sea, approximately 1000 direct and subject to further offi cial authorisation. 4000 indirect jobs. The wind farm is therefore located outside the main scallop fi elds.

a new dynamic for local industry Employment, training and integration as fundamental to the project

On the scale of the three owner’s parent company projects and considering all the work involved; A recruitment campaign will be run to attract qualifi ed foundation’s construction, onshore assembly and labor during all the project lifetime (welders, offshore implementation of the wind turbines should boilermakers, crane operators…). The owner plans to consequently create 1600 jobs. 400 of them dedicated work with local partners in employment, training, and to the courseulles-sur-Mer project. integration to promote jobs creation in the offshore Each offshore wind farm will require one hundred wind industry. Specifi c training programs and simplifi ed engineers, technicians and sailors for operation and recruitment process for unemployed people will be put maintenance.
