Twelve Arab Innovators Become Stars of Science Candidates on Mbc4
TWELVE ARAB INNOVATORS BECOME STARS OF SCIENCE CANDIDATES ON MBC4 Season 7’s Engineering Stage Kicks Off Doha, October 10, 2015 – Twelve of the Arab world’s most promising and remarkable young innovators beat thousands of rival applicants to be selected as candidates on the seventh season of Stars of Science, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development ‘s (QF) “edutainment reality” TV program on MBC4. This selection concludes the casting phase and marks the onset of the highly competitive engineering stage of the program, in which candidates work tirelessly with mentors to turn their concepts into prototypes; further advancing QF’s mission of unlocking human potential in the next generation of aspiring young science and technology innovators. Chosen candidates have roots in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Egypt, Algeria, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Tunisa, reflecting the diversity that has characterized Stars of Science since its inception. Their distinct inventions feature smart technology that can solve problems in fields as varied as medical diagnostics, mobility for the physically challenged, sports, renewable energy and nutrition. On the first three episodes of Stars of Science, thousands of applicants from across the Middle East and North Africa were screened in a multi‐country casting tour by a panel of highly experienced jurors. In the latest Majlis episode, jury members selected twelve of the seventeen shortlisted applicants to become candidates, advancing them to the next phase of the competition, held at Qatar Science & Technology Park, a member of Qatar Foundation. As candidates enter the critical engineering stage, which spans three episodes, they compete against each other in three separate groups labeled; blue, red and purple. -

Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights
E SCCR/30/5 ORIGINAL: ENGLISH DATE: JUNE 2, 2015 Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights Thirtieth Session Geneva, June 29 to July 3, 2015 CURRENT MARKET AND TECHNOLOGY TRENDS IN THE BROADCASTING SECTOR prepared by IHS Technology IHS TECHNOLOGY Current Market and Technology Trends in the Broadcasting Sector May 2015 ihs.com Introduction Like so many facets of the modern world, television has been transformed by the application of digital technologies and the parallel and related development of the fast evolving Internet. While some broadcasters – especially those in developing economies - still utilise traditional analogue transmission techniques, most have transitioned to more efficient and powerful digital means of sending their programming to viewers. Use of digital technologies has enabled explosive growth in the number of channels and choices of programmes offered. It has also ceded more control to the viewer, allowing on-demand access to programming – not only from broadcasters and pay TV service providers, but also increasingly from online video services delivered over the open Internet. Indeed, as this report outlines, the definitional boundaries between broadcasting and other forms of digital video delivery are increasingly blurred. The viewer is undoubtedly a winner as a result of these developments as we move ever closer to the ultimate provision of ubiquitous choice, convenience and control. And broadcasters are usually winners too as evidenced by the impressive global TV market growth described in this report. Inevitably, that growth and technological development is not evenly distributed geographically, and we outline some of the key regional trends in the pages that follow, as well as some more focused snapshots of the market evolution within selected countries. -

TV GUIDE 2018 IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TV GUIDE cover final.indd 1 5/3/18 7:37 PM IFC - Innovation.pdf 1 9/16/16 3:52 AM C M Y CM MY CY CMY K 6 MAY 2018 INTRODUCTION SCENE: INTERIOR: A HOTEL CONFERENCE ROOM. Close up on Austyn, a slightly tubby editor (with boyish good looks and a roguish charm). He is terrified. His palms are sweating, he is shaking a little. He holds a pen tightly but is not writing. In front of him is a blank piece of paper. This was where I found myself towards the end of our Future of Video Breakfast Briefing last week. I had just been asked to write my first ever advertising pitch. I write about this stuff all the time, but I’ve never had to do it in the flesh. It was part of YouTube’s workshop about how to produce Ramadan content that would do well on that platform. The – mercifully imaginary – brief was the launch of a new television channel, Hala, with programming focus on comedy, drama and romance. Each table in the workshop had to come up with a YouTube web series that would promote this channel. And my mind was blank. Luckily, I was surrounded by less blank, brighter and more imaginative people and we finally came up with Iftar vs. Iftar, a cooking show that pitches millennial couples against their parents and parents-in-law. Some dishes are traditional, some are modern. Like Hala, it shows how tradition and modernity can exist side-by-side. -
