DAY 1

‘Heart of the Nation’ City Tour: Take a unique tour of the city ‘Heart of the Nation’ on a trolley that has been refurbished to resemble a Winnipeg streetcar, circa 1921. The tour will take you back to this burgeoning frontier town filled with mystery, excitement and an eclectic cast of wild characters. Learn why Winnipeg was once called the ‘wickedest city in Canada,’ how an underdog local hockey team became the world’s first Olympic hockey champion and the prairie town’s influential connection to the world’s most famous spy—James Bond.

“Cache me if you can” The Forks National Historic Site: 6000 years ago, the junction of the might Red and Assiniboine rivers was a great place to meet. Centuries later it remains a crossroads of culture and commerce. The Forks is rich with the history of people who all came here to meet. Explore the Forks by participating in the High Tech History Hunts. Choose from two intriguing "cases" and use GPS technology and a self-guiding booklet to trace the history of The Forks and locate a hidden geocache.

Lunch at the Forks: Give your group some free time to explore the quaint boutiques, listen to talented buskers, checkout some impressive tricks at the state-of-the art skateboarding park or climb the six storeys of The Forks Market Tower to get a view of Winnipeg’s skyline.

Explore The Museum: This award-winning heritage and edutainment centre is a dynamic facility showcasing the human and natural heritage of Manitoba, from the dinosaur era to Winnipeg during the roaring ‘20s. Travel through the grasslands, hike through a boreal forest and catch a glimpse of Arctic plants and animals and learn how they have adapted to their environment. Groups can travel back in time and board the full-sized replica of the Nonsuch—the original ship that sailed into Churchill, Manitoba from England in 1668. Don’t miss the Science Gallery, where you can build and race your own mini-cars, or the Planetarium to discover the mysteries of the sky.

Evening activity suggestion: Celebrations Dinner Theatre. Enjoy an original three-act musical comedy that will have your group singing and laughing and a few members might even find themselves onstage! Experience fabulous live vocals of popular songs with fantastic sets and delight in the performances, while indulging in a four-course dinner.

DAY 2:

Experience the fur trade: Lower National Historic Site: Experience , North America’s only restored stone fort from the fur trade era. Buildings and walls that have stood on the bank of the Red River for more than 180 years tell inspiring tales of innovations, discovery and struggle. Let the costumed guides familiarize you with the fort and meet the Governor of the Hudson’s Bay Company as he strolls through his garden. While here, barter with the company clerk, grind your own grains in a quer and listen to metal being hammered in the Blacksmith Shop. Your group can experience the fur trade by participating in a fur trade relay race or a croquet game getting interactive in a butter-making workshop or taking behind-the-scenes tour. Lower Fort Garry is always a hands-on experience.

Oak Hammock Marsh: Only 20 minutes west of Lower Fort Garry, enjoy lunch at Café. Spend the afternoon at this unique wildlife management area, featuring hiking trails, marsh boardwalks, canoe excursions and bird viewing Participate in a wildlife survey and get up close and personal with some of the marsh inhabitants. Learn the history of the and see the marsh from a new perspective in one of three, 10-passenger voyageur-style canoes. You’ll get a duck's eye view of the plants and animals that call the marsh home when providing the paddle power.

Evening activity: Manitoba Theatre for Young People presents professional theatre productions for young people. Located at the Forks, MTYP is home to a 28,000 sq. Ft. performance facility, featuring a fully re- configurable theatre, classroom studios and production and wardrobe shops. Plays are featured throughout the year designed for all ages from elementary to high school students.
