2------www.whatzup.com------March 16, 2017 whatzup Volume 21, Number 31 e’re going to change up what we normally write in this space and write instead about the internet, specifically where whatzup fits into it. Thousands of you have been picking up a print copy of whatzup each and Wevery week over the past 20 years, and you have no idea how much we appreciate that. But there’s a huge number of people who were barely reading or weren’t even born when we launched this publication, and, as it turns out, most of those people seem to have a problem with paper and prefer to get their news and information from the internet, whether on their computer screens or their phones. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. After all, it saves trees. And the internet is more immediate and flexible than print. Bothersome, time-consuming and expensive steps like imaging negatives, plating a press and distributing copies are eliminated com- pletely. Most importantly, while print requires publishers to fit copy and pictures onto a specific number of pages, the amount of information that can be published on a website is virtually boundless. The problem? The internet is a relatively new and rapidly developing medium. We weren’t exactly spring chickens when we launched this thing in 1996, and keeping up with the times gets increasingly harder with each passing year. But we’re trying. Believe us. We’re trying because, long-term, the survival of this publication depends upon how successfully we navigate this brave new digital world. And this is where you come in: if you’ve not looked at whatzup.com lately, whether on your desktop or your phone, please take a look around.
