WHO WE ARE MEMBERSHIP Multicultural sororities and fraternities offer an alternative to traditional Greek The preparation period preceding initiation is now generally referred to as chapters. Students who share similar cultural interests may want to consider the Membership Intake Program (MIP). joining a historically African American, Latino or Asian-based organization. All of these organizations promote scholarship, leadership and community service. Some organizations accept second semester freshmen with at least 12 Multicultural organizations offer enriched programs, which will mold and educate credit hours from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. However it is its brothers and sisters into productive members of society. The University of high recommended that students wait until their sophomore year. Many Nebraska–Lincoln’s multicultural chapters do not have living units so members organizations require potential members to be actively involved on campus live in the residents halls or in off campus housing. and in the community. All of the organizations have adopted non-hazing guidelines to ensure that membership into their respective organizations is non-threatening and ALUMNI SUPPORT supportive experience. These groups individually participate in informal recruitment throughout the academic year. Each multicultural organization has an alumni system that supports and develops its younger members. Alumni members offer support, provide an instant social network and serve as positive role models in the transition to college. Chapters have alumni members throughout the world. GOVERNANCE The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) and the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) serve as the governing bodies for the African American, SCHOLARSHIP Latino and Asian-based groups. Each member organization stresses the importance of scholastic excellence to its members and implements regular study hours and other academic programming to encourage their members to perform up to their best potential. The minimum scholarship requirement for membership is determined by each individual national organization, usually a minimum of 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. INTEREST TO INTAKE This three semester program allows students to prepare themselves to join a multicultural Greek organization. The program consists of community service events, application seminars, money management programs, mentor programs, study clinics, and events hosted by NPHC/MGC chapters and campus partners. .

Fraternity and sorority members of the Multicultural Greek Council gather on sorority row after the Annual Greek canned food drive. Since 2007, more than 30,000 pounds of food has been collected in partnership with local philanthropies. 2. Members of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority pose in their famous “Kappa Picker” overalls. The Kappa Pickers song and dance troupe performs at Greek events across campus. 3. During the semiannual Interfraternity Council Bid House celebration, which concludes the end of formal recruitment, members of Sigma Phi Epsilon are excited to offer their newest pledges invitations to join their fraternity. Sigma Pi Epsilon was the fi rst Greek organization to colonize at Texas A&M in 1973. 4. Brittany Burns ‘12 and Crissa Woodruff ‘11 of Chi Omega served as the Panhellenic delegates for their sorority.
