KASBIT Business Journal (KBJ) Vol. 12, 109-137, December 2019 Comparative Analysis of Textile Firm in Pakistani Business Group (Case of DEWAN and MANSHA Group) Shahida Suleman Faculty member of ILMA University Rashid Ali PhD Scholar Indus University Assistant Professor ILMA University Abstract This study is conducted in order to determine how does various financial factors liquidity efficiency, profitability and market share affect the financial performance of two textile family firm in Pakistani business group Nishat textile Mill and Dewan textile Mill. In this study, we conducted a comparative study by comparing both firm financial performance in term of liquidity, profitability, efficiency and market share. Data collected by the secondary source company’s annual audited report the size of the data is five we work on five years’ company financial data. Size of the sample is small selected two companies from textile sector. Nishat textile mill and Dewan textile mill selected in order to conduct comparative analysis of financial performance of companies. In order to evaluation and comparison of financial performance of selected companies, Textile Mill and Dewan Textile Mill. We use a financial ratio analysis technique, and adopted inductive approach by exploring the factors that affected the Dewan Textile Mill financial performance. In this research, use only secondary data. The exploratory research technique used for this study. The unit of analysis of our research is textile firm. Our results are indicating both firm financial position clearly that how adversely these financial factors affected the financial performance of the both firm. Our results indicating that Dewan textile mill liquidity efficiency profitability and market share are negative firm consistently suffered losses and became bankrupt contrarily Nishat textile mill liquidity, efficiency, profitability and market share indicating a positive results company consistently generating profit by efficiently manage its physical and human resources. -

Manora Field Notes & Beyond: a Conversation With
Manora Field Notes & Beyond: A conversation with Naiza Khan In 2019, Naiza Khan became the first British-Pakistani artist to represent Pakistan for the country’s inaugural pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale. Titled Manora Field Notes, the multimedia archival project was inspired by the artist’s twelve years of expansive research and documentation of the maritime trade and histories she unearthed on the island of Manora, situated on the southern part of the Karachi Peninsula. From 1986–1987, Khan studied at Wimbledon College of Art, before going on to receive her BFA in printmaking and painting from the Ruskin School of Fine Art, Oxford. She recently graduated with an MA in Research Architecture from Goldsmiths’ Department of Visual Cultures. Khan’s work has been widely exhibited internationally, including the Kochi- Muziris Biennale (2016) and the Shanghai Biennale (2012), as well as in exhibitions such as ‘Desperately Seeking Paradise’, Art Dubai, UAE (2008); ‘Hanging Firse: Contemporary Art From Pakistan’, Asia Society, New York (2009); Manifesta 8, Murcia, Spain (2010); the Cairo Biennale, Egypt (2010); ‘Restore the Boundaries: The Manora Project’, Rossi & Rossi Gallery and Art Dubai, Dubai, UAE (2010); ); ‘Art Decoding Violence’, XV Biennale Donna, Ferrara, Italy, (2012); and ‘Set In A Moment Yet Still Moving’, Koel Gallery, Karachi (2017). The artist has been selected for a number of fellowships and residencies, including Gasworks, London; the Rybon Art Centre, Tehran; and the Institute for Comparative Modernities, Cornell University, among others. As a founding member and long-time coordinator of the Vasl Artists’ Collective in Karachi, Khan has worked to foster art in the city and participated in a series of innovative art projects in partnership with other workshops in the region and beyond, such as the Khoj International Artists’ Association, New Delhi; the Britto Arts Trust, Dhaka, Bangladesh; the Sutra Art Foundation, Kathmandu, Nepal; and the Theertha International Artists’ Collective, Colombo, Sri Lanka. -

http://www.dawn.com/2004/10/10/local1.htm 10 October 2004 Sunday 24 Shaban 1425 ISLAMABAD: Karachi under the Raj exhibition inaugurated By Our Staff Reporter KARACHI, Oct 9: The sneak preview of a major exhibition showcasing the history of Karachi from the Battle of Miani to partition was held on the lawns of Mohatta Palace on Saturday. Organized by the Mohatta Palace Museum in collaboration with the Dawn Group of Newspapers, the exhibition is titled Jewel in the Crown: Karachi under the Raj 1843 - 1947. Opening the exhibition, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz announced a one-time grant of Rs10 million for the Mohatta Palace Museum. He observed that fund-raising was an art, and exhibition co- curator Hameed Haroon excelled in it. He also appreciated the manner in which exhibits had been put on display. The prime minister recalled that he had spent most of his youth in Karachi, adding that the city has become a bustling metropolis. Earlier, Mr Haroon recalled that the exhibition had first been held as part of Dawn's All about lifestyle show the previous year. "Judging from the response of the people of the city - 25,000 visitors in 36 hours - we decided to expand the exhibition, with an accent on the achievements of the sons of Karachi, including Sir Abdullah Haroon, the Aga Khan and Quaid-i- Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah," he said. He added that when the exhibition was formally launched after Ramazan, it would be accompanied by 24 CDs and 18 books, documenting the history of Karachi as well as the southern part of the country. -
India Stands Committed to the Roadmap for Bilateral Trade
India stands committed to the roadmap for bilateral trade normalization as was worked out in September 2012 between Commerce Secretaries of India and Pakistan : Anand Sharma By : INVC Team Published On : 13 Dec, 2013 10:35 PM IST INVC, Delhi, The Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Shri Anand Sharma today met Mr. Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Punjab Province of Pakistan who was accompanied by Pakistan’s Minister of State for Commerce, Textile and Privatization Mr. Khurram Dastgir Khan, Mr. Salman Bashir, High Commissioner of Pakistan to India and Pakistani businessman Mr. Mian Muhammad Mansha along with other senior officials from Pakistan. Shri Sharma conveyed to the Pakistan side that India stands committed to the roadmap for bilateral trade normalization as was worked out in September 2012 between Commerce Secretaries of India and Pakistan. Essentially this involves Pakistan side removing its restrictions on trade by the land route (Attari, Wagah ICP), as also imparting full non-discriminatory trade access by removing its balance 1209 tariff lines of its current negative list of items importable from India. On the basis of these agreed steps to be taken, Shri Sharma reiterated that India would give enhanced preferential trade access to Pakistan by bringing down its SAFTA sensitive list from 614 tariff lines to 100 tariff lines. The Pakistan side would also in a phased manner over five years be reducing its SAFTA sensitive list for India to 100 tariff lines. It was also agreed that with the growing volume of trade by the land route the working hours at Attari/ Wagah can be further enhanced and even contemplated for 24/7 operating conditions, the details of which would need to be discussed at an appropriate time between the Commerce Secretaries of both countries. -

!1 Who We Are The playground is a community space, and a university-wide ecosystem, designed for creative collaborative work that helps transform the teaching and learning experience at Habib. It serves as a gateway, and enhances accessibility, to making and design activities across departments and schools. Playground has characteristics of a lab and studio that fosters pedagogical innovation through interdisciplinary design based research, operating between the fields of industrial, urban, interaction, communication and systems design. We aim to understand complex systemic problems in the world by utilizing praxis as a research tool. We believe in "getting our hands dirty" using workshops, exercises, prototypes, simulations and speculations to model the kinds of phenomenon we are studying. As a collaborative platform we aim to show the social relevance of design, where alternative strategies to improve our city and society can be exchanged using design research as a tool for innovation. We give an opportunity to individuals belonging to diverse disciplines and backgrounds to share their ideas and get feedback from stakeholders, and test out prototypes and solutions in the form of designed interventions, as well as gauge the impact of their interventions. We work on projects in cooperation with public partners such as, governments on one hand and private partners like companies on the other. We pursue practice-based research rooted in four core design disciplines: 1) Urbanism/Urban Design 2) Communication Design; 2) Industrial or Product Design; 3) Interaction Design; 4) Service or Systems Design. Similarly, we define and encourage several design approaches at the Playground, with a view to facilitate different forms of inquiry and outcomes: 1) Human-Centered Design; 2) Design Thinking 3) Participatory or Co-Design; 4) Speculative or Critical Design; 5) Design Futures & Forecasting; 6) Transition Design. -
