REBOLEIRA1 AND HENRIK ENGHOFF2 Abstract: Millipedes play an important role in the decomposition of organic matter in the subterranean environment. Despite the existence of several cave-adapted species of millipedes in adjacent geographic areas, their study has been largely ignored in Portugal. Over the last decade, intense fieldwork in caves of the mainland and the island of Madeira has provided new data about the distribution and diversity of millipedes. A review of millipedes from caves of Portugal is presented, listing fourteen species belonging to eight families, among which six species are considered troglobionts. The distribution of millipedes in caves of Portugal is discussed and compared with the troglobiont biodiversity in the overall Iberian Peninsula and the Macaronesian archipelagos. Kunst Kultur Bericht Kunst- und Kulturbericht 2020 Kunst- und Kulturbericht 2020 Wien 2021 Liebe Leserinnen und Leser, als wir im Juli des vergangenen Jahres den Kunst- und Kulturbericht 2019 veröffent- lichten, hatten wir gehofft, dass die optimistischen Prognosen über den Verlauf und die Eindämmung der Pandemie eintreten werden und wir Anfang des Jahres 2021 unser gesellschaftliches und kulturelles Leben langsam wieder aufnehmen können. Es kam anders. Das Virus und seine Mutanten haben es nicht erlaubt, dass wir uns ohne er- hebliche Gefahr für unsere Gesundheit in größeren Gruppen treffen oder als Publikum versammeln. Diese unsichtbaren Gegner haben es unmöglich gemacht, in Theatern, Kinos, Konzerthäusern, Galerien und Museen zusammenzukommen, um das zu tun, was wir alle lieben: gemeinsam Kunst zu erleben und zu genießen. Unser wichtigstes Ziel war es daher, alles zu unternehmen, damit wir am Ende der Pan- demie dort fortsetzen können, wo wir plötzlich und unerwartet aus unserem kulturellen Leben gerissen wurden: All jene, die in unserem Land Kunst machen, die sich dazu entschlossen haben, ihr Leben und ihre ganze Kraft dem künstlerischen Schaffen zu widmen, sollten bestmöglich durch diese schwierigen Zeiten kommen. All das, was in den vergangenen Jahren und Jahrzehnten an kultureller Infrastruktur entwickelt, aufgebaut und eingerichtet worden ist, sollte diese schwierigen Monate unbeschadet überstehen. Rasch, effizient und gezielt zu unterstützen, das war unsere politische Leitlinie, nach der wir die gesetzlichen Voraussetzungen geschaffen und die administrativen Prozesse aufgesetzt haben – und wir sind stolz darauf, dass uns vieles gelungen ist. So flossen im Jahr 2020 aus dem Covid-19-Krisenbewältigungsfonds der Bundesregierung zusätzliche Budgetmittel in dreistelliger Millionenhöhe direkt an Künstlerinnen und Künstler, an die Bundesmuseen, die Nationalbibliothek und den Bundestheater-Konzern sowie an Non-Profit-Organisationen im Bereich Kunst, Kultur und Denkmalpflege. -

Twelve caves of Western Mecsek, Southwest Hungary were examined between September 2010 and April 2013 from the millipede (Diplopoda) faunistical point of view. Ten species were found in eight caves, which consisted eutroglophile and troglobiont elements as well. The cave with the most diverse fauna was the Törökpince Sinkhole, while the two previously also investigated caves, the Abaligeti Cave and the Mánfai-kőlyuk Cave provided less species, which could be related to their advanced touristic and industrial utilization. E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT The schizophylline millipede Ommatoiulus moreleti (Lucas) and the cylindroiuline millipede Cylindroiulus pyrenaicus (Brölemann) (Julida: Julidae) are recorded new for the UK from a site near Bridgend, Glamorganshire, in April 2017. An unidentified millipede first collected in April 2004 from Kenfig Burrows, Glamorganshire, is also confirmed as being C. pyrenaicus. Both species are described and illustrated, enabling identification. C. pyrenaicus is reported as a new host for the Laboulbeniales fungus Rickia laboulbenioides. Summary information is provided on habitat preferences of both species in South Wales and on their foreign distribution and habitats. It is considered likely that both species have been unintentionally introduced into the UK as a consequence of industrial activity in the Valleys of south Wales. INTRODUCTION The genera Ommatoiulus Latzel, 1884 and Cylindroiulus Verhoeff, 1894 (Julida: Julidae) both display high species diversity (Kime & Enghoff, 2017). Of the 47 described species of Ommatoiulus the majority are found in North Africa and the Iberian Peninsula (ibid). Currently, just one species, Ommatoiulus sabulosus (Linnaeus, 1758), is known from Britain and Ireland, a species that occurs widely across northern Europe (Kime, 1999) and in Britain reaches the northern Scottish coastline (Lee, 2006). -

ABSTRACT This paper deals with the conceptions, knowledge and attitudes of the inhabitants of the county of Pedra Branca, Bahia State, on the arthropods of the class Diplopoda. Data were collected from February to June 2005 by means of open-ended interviews carried out with 28 individuals, which ages ranged from 13 to 86 years old. It was recorded some traditional knowledge regarding the following items: taxonomy, biology, habitat, ecology, seasonality, and behavior. Results show that the diplopods are classified as “insects”. The characteristic of coiling the body was the most com- mented, as well as the fact that these animals are considered as “poisonous”. In gen- eral, the traditional zoological knowledge of Pedra Branca’s inhabitants concerning the diplopods is coherent with the academic knowledge. Key words: Ethnozoology, ethnomyriapodology, perception, millipede.
