Sent from the office of Delegate Jerrauld “Jay” Jones, I received the email on Friday afternoon, June 5, 2020. I ask that you pass this correspondence to the referenced case file. PUR-2020-00048 Ex Parte: Temporary Suspension of Tariff Attachment - Letter signed by 44 members of the Virginia House of Representatives and 14 members of the Virginia Senate S ID i) 8 IS June 5, 2020 ® 1 (! VIA ELECTRONIC FILING £ Honorable Mark C. Christie Chairman State Corporation Commission 1300 E. Main Street Richmond, VA 23219 Re: Commonwealth of Virginia, ex rel. State Corporation Commission, Ex Parte: Temporary Suspension of Tariff Requirements Case No. PUR-2020-00048 Dear Commissioner Christie: We greatly appreciate the State Corporation Commission’s continued efforts to protect Virginia consumers during the economic crisis caused by the Coronavirus pandemic (“COVID- 19”). Please accept this informatory letter in response to issues and questions raised in the Commission’s May 26 Order in the referenced docket. In its Order, the Commission asserted that the current moratorium on utility service disconnections for nonpayment “is not sustainable” and could result in costs being “unfairly shifted to other customers.” The Order also suggested that this moratorium could have “negative impacts on small, less-capitalized utilities and member-owned electric cooperatives,” which “could impact vital services to all customers of such utilities.” The Commission requested comment regarding whether the current moratorium should be continued, and if so, for how long.

COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA HOUSE OF DELEGATES RICHMOND COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS: HALA S. AYALA COMMUNICATIONS, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION (VICE-CHAIR) POST OFFICE BOX 7434 WOODBRIDGE, VIRGINIA 22195 FINANCE LABOR AND COMMERCE FIFTY -FIRST DISTRICT th June 25 , 2020 Ira Kress President Giant Food, LLC 831 Professional Place, Suite 115 Landover, MD 20785 Dear Mr. Kress, We are writing to you today to express our concern after hearing that Giant has ended its “appreciation pay” program as of May 30. Many of our constituents work and shop in your stores and know that the danger to your employees on the front lines continues to exist and your company continues to make millions in profits from the hard work these heroes continue to do every day to serve their neighbors. While other industries are suffering and thousands of our neighbors are unemployed and facing financial hardship, the grocery industry is booming. Sales are up as people are eating more at home, and we know that trend will continue for the foreseeable future. With the grocery store one of the few places people are going to regularly, it has become a dangerous place and everyone who works there is putting themselves and their family at risk on every shift. Giant has also refused to institute real limits on customers in the store, and recently doubled limits put in place at the beginning of the pandemic, making your stores even higher risk for employees to acquire COVID-19 and potentially pass it to co-workers, customers, or family. We know that you instituted a “thank you” bonus for some employees going into June, but that does not replace the “appreciation pay” premium added on to hourly pay, which many of your competitors have already agreed to extend into June, or, in some cases, July.

  • League in Action February 19, 2020 President's Message
League in Action February 19, 2020 President's Message We just came off an exciting week celebrating the 100th anniversary of the League and LWV Virginia’s League Day. The informative Women’s Legislative Roundtable featured updates from our State Legislative Team, including our own Julia Tanner, and legislators such as Vivien Watts representing the 39th District and the 13th District’s Danica Roem. After visiting delegates and the House and Senate Galleries to hear the LWV praised from the floor, we attended lunch and were treated to our amazing speaker, the award-winning journalist, A’lelia Bundles. The next day we had a private tour of the home of Maggie L Walker and the fantastic Tredegar Civil War Museum. The pictures shared here tell only a part of the story. Of course, I have to brag about Arlington. We had the largest delegation of any Virginia league with fifteen representatives in attendance! We were well represented by Chris De Rosa, Marj Signer, Janet Boyd, Julia Tanner, Jackie Rivas, Lisa Koteen Gerchick, Pam Berg, Debby Churchman, Connie Potter, Joan N Curry (and her husband Frick who was a trooper) Anne Murphy, Joan McDermott, Ann Sharp and, yours truly. It was a great celebration of our 100th and how “Women Power the Vote!” Happy Birthday to US, Joan Celebrate that Virginia was 38! More information here Anyone who wants to go contact Julia Tanner [email protected] Report on Redistricting and Next Steps The fight for People-Powered Fair Maps is almost complete in the 2020 General Assembly. • New Legislator Bios
New Legislator Bios HD 2: Jennifer Carroll Foy -D (Dudenhefer) I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you my story because I think you deserve to know more about me and what I believe. When I was growing up, my grandfather always said, “If you have it, you have to give it.” Those words stuck with me when I was at VMI; they were the reason I served as a foster parent; and they are a guiding principle I live by as a public defender. Giving back has been, and must continue to be, the foundation of Virginia. That is why I’ve made it my life’s work. When I was at Virginia Military Institute (VMI), I knew I had to defy the odds and graduate in order to have the opportunity to give back. I enrolled in the third class of female cadets to attend the historically all-male college. On my first day, they shaved my head and said, “Welcome to VMI.” My best male friend bet me a dollar that I wouldn’t last a year. Well, I won that bet and graduated with a degree in English. I know the deck seems stacked against us. Washington is a mess and politicians prefer gridlock over results. But every time I look my kids in the eyes, or walk into work as a public defender, I know we have to fight toward a fairer, stronger, and more just Virginia. I’m running for delegate to continue to give back to the community that has given me so much.

Asia Fields Media Coverage of Transgender People Through Danica Roem’s Election Coverage Danica Roem’s race in Virginia against incumbent Robert Marshall drew national attention, despite being an election for a state legislature seat. This is because Roem, a transgender woman and former journalist, was running against a man who once referred to himself as “chief homophobe” and introduced a failed bill to make it legal to discriminate against transgender, non-binary and genderqueer individuals. Prominent newspapers like the New York Times and USA Today covered Roem’s election, and the Washington Post had thorough coverage of Roem’s candidacy as well, as the election took place in its regional coverage zone. Elements of the Associated Press and New York Times style guides align with best practices for media professionals by GLAAD and The Association of LGBTQ Journalists (NLGJA), media advocacy organizations seeking to improve coverage of LGBTQ people and issues they face.
