  • BLACK SABBATH Is the Goddamn Best Band on Earth
BLACK SABBATH is the goddamn best band on earth. “sweet leaf” is still the mother of creation. four bastards met in may 2001. they shared their love for both of these things. combining the power of SABBATH and weed, band created a very own and fuckin’ murdering heavy sound - still the one and only existing law for GORILLA MONSOON. during their existence various members left the band; replaced by true believers of religion named metal the band became stronger and heavier. two founding members, jack and drumster, are forming the creative spearhead. first release, autumn 2001: „deflowered world“ - a fuckin’ heavy, fuckin’ slow, but still groovin’ bastard, mixed up with these special ingredients - weed and SABBATH. second release, spring 2003: „...demonstrating heavieness“ - presenting GORILLA MONSOON stronger and harder and, of course, more fucked up then ever before. third release, split 10” with WEED IN THE HEAD. summer 2006 they entered the goat cunt laboratory to record the first full length album “Damage King”, mastered at absurd studios hamburg by schrödey. finally ARMAGEDDON MUSIC RECORDS made it, they released the cd in march 2006. a fucking great piece of music without compromise!!! GORILLA MONSOON are alive. they celebrate what they created…as seen on shows at WACKEN and the DOOM SHALL RISE and concerts with DISBELIEF, HIDDEN HAND; PLACE OF SKULLS, ELECTRIC WIZARD, WARHORSE…, they have been also on tour supporting finnish bands CAUSE FOR EFFECT, GOD FORSAKEN (rip) and VICTORY and METAL CHURCH on their “A light in the dark Tour 06”. Fairies Wear Boots 2. Evil Woman 3. Rat Salad 4. Iron Man 5. Hand Of Doom 6. Changes 7. Children Of The Grave THE FULL STORY (as presented on the LP sleeve and CD booklet) Formed in 1968, Jazz Sabbath were considered by many to be at the forefront of the new jazz movement coming out of England at the time. The eagerly awaited debut album, scheduled for release on Friday 13th February 1970, was destined never to be released. Until now. The album was cancelled when news broke that founding member and pianist Milton Keanes was hospitalised with a massive heart attack which left him fighting for his life. The record company took the decision to shelve the album and cancel the scheduled release out of compassion and the financial uncertainty of releasing a debut album from a band without its musical leader. When Milton was finally released from hospital in September 1970, he found out that a band from Birmingham, conveniently called ‘Black Sabbath’, had since released two albums containing metal versions of what he claims were his songs. Milton tried to contact his record label, Rusty Bedsprings Records, only to find out it didn’t exist anymore and the label owner was in jail. All recalled Jazz Sabbath albums had been destroyed when the warehouse burned down in June 1970; which turned out to be a case of insurance fraud by the label owner, leaving only a few bootleg tapes of Jazz Sabbath’s live performances between 1968 and 1969 as proof of existence.

As a matter of course, we will distinguish between music that is popular and a more refined notion of popular music (that is, music that manipulates reproduction and commodity culture to achieve widespread distribution). From 1960 to today in the world of popular music, there were explosions in the visibility of racial, gender, and identity issues in what we might call the politics of aesthetics. Meanwhile, technology moves from the reification (the “thing-making” element) of the LP and cassette to the intangibility (information- driven ontology) of the MP3 and streaming. We will examine the impact of developing technologies (radio, television, LP, cassette, CD, MP3, streaming services) not only in the “sound” of popular music but also in the very birth and development of our more specific notion of popular music.

  • The Thematical and Stylistic Evolution of Heavy Metal Lyrics and Imagery from the 70S to Present Day
1 Jeroen Buts Master Engels The Thematical and Stylistic Evolution of Heavy Metal Lyrics and Imagery From the 70s to Present Day Master scriptie Faculteit Letteren en Wijsbegeerte Promotor: Prof. Dr. Gert Buelens 2 Prologue You cannot make me feel guilty/ I don't give a shit about respect I won't join your moral masturbation/ I'm the prodigal son gone off the tracks You cannot make me feel sorry/ I don't give a damn about your pride I'm the cat-piss on your carpet/ The last crushing thought before you die Don't fit in your picture Don't fit in your world Don't match all the lies you feed your kids Feel no loyalty/ This deal was made without me Sure I never signed it/ Your contracts don't apply to me I'll fuck your dog/ Do you still wanna get along with me? I'd rape your daughter/ On payment of a small fee I'll fuck your dog/ Do you still wanna get along with me? I'd rape your daughter/ How much would you pay? (“Dead Serious and Highly Professional”, The Ocean) If someone were to tell you, dear reader, that heavy metal is just a louder, faster and more formulaic version of that popular musical genre which defined the late 70s, called hard rock, that someone would probably be wrong. The above lyric contains several elements which indicate just how incomplete such a statement would be. Most importantly, it divides those who read it almost instantly: a metal fan, even if his taste is for a different subgenre of metal, will recognize a specific quality in this text.
