UNID 920 unID ‐‐ – 10/3 0404 – Someone barely above the co‐channel a couple of times with old C&W. Also another UNID with Spanish preacher, choir in Spanish sounding as though in church from 0430. (TLK‐FL) 1150 unID ‐‐ ‐ 9/23 1925 – In multi‐station mix (WDTM, WDEL, CKOC), female with “Sport radio 11‐50” slogan. I don’t believe this is CKOC as I’ve heard CKOC ID as “TSN 11‐50.” (KK‐VA) unID ‐‐ ‐ 9/23 1825 – In multi‐station mix with time pips, but no “RR” in morse code. In other words, not Cuba’s R. Reloj. (KK‐VA) 1270 unID ‐‐ – 9/24 0638 – Unidentified C&W oldie, into “Six‐Pack Summer” by Phil Vassar. Not WBOJ, Columbus, GA. Going to their website and stream, they are now “Boomer 102.5” with rock/pop oldies, still simulcast to the W273CW translator but with the ex‐C&W format gone. Next best candidate is WHGS, Hampton, SC. (TLK‐FL) 1390 unID ‐‐ ‐ As reported by TLK‐FL in DDXD‐E 84‐01, “Mexi‐tunes while pointed N/S,” my guess is WZHF Arlington, VA which broadcasts a Mexican format with the slogan Fiesta 1390. (BC‐NH)

TIS/HAR 1650 WQQJ297 FL I‐275 Tampa – 9/29 1036 – Compu‐man, loop begins with “You are listening to the Florida Department of Transportation Highway Advisory Radio System, station WQQJ297 at 16‐50 AM.” Then generic construction zone warning. Loud and alone where the Sunshine Skyway HAR’s on both ends should have been easily audible and a bridge in full view. Off? (TLK‐ FL1)

LOGGINGS 540 WWCS PA Canonsburg – 9/19 2200 – Peaking at times with sports talk and Yahoo Sports promos. Ad for Tony George Show. (HJH‐PA) 550 WSVA VA Harrisonburg – 9/19 2207 – Very strong, briefly over WGR. Full ID with mention of 550 and 92.1. Started into a segment of the John Batchelor Show. (HJH‐PA) 590 WARM PA Scranton – 9/24 0600 – Over WEZE and Cuba; “Northern PA’s sports leader, 590 WARM Scranton‐Wilkes Barre‐Hazleton, a Cumulus station, worldwide at Sports Radio 590 AM dot com,” into CBS Sports Radio. (BC‐NH) 600 WVAR WV Richwood – 9/25 1955 – “City of New Orleans” by Arlo Guthrie, ToH ID: “This is 600 AM WVAR,” “Cherish” by the Association, possible “Mighty 1490” mention at 2016, Cats In The Cradle” by Harry Chapin, “If I Had a Hammer” by Peter, Paul & Mary. Poor to very poor mixing with CKAT and probably WICC & WSOM. (PS‐ON) 7 660 WXQW AL Fairhope – 9/29 0658 – “Your new source for news and information…WXQW Fairhope‐Mobile, a Cumulus Station.” Mexican anthem audible underneath. (NjW‐ON) 690 KGGF KS Coffeyville – 10/3 0718 – Blasting in with dude reading hog futures, cattle auction and farm equipment events, all in Oklahoma, ID, local weather and live read commercials, color radar report. (TLK‐FL) KSTL MO Saint Louis – 9/28 2345 – Gospel music, “690 WSTL” ID at 2350 between songs, more gospel, “You want what we got 690” slogan at 2355, Page Publishing ad, “KSTL 690 East St. Louis” ToH ID. Poor to very poor, mostly under CKGM (partially nulled) & UNID Spanish station. (PS‐ON) WELD WV Fisher – 9/27 2108 – Strong over CKGM ending a Doobie Bros. song then “690 AM WELD” ID then into a Cyndi Lauper song. (HJH‐PA) 710 WTPR TN Paris – 10/2 0658 – Oldie and ID: “since 1945…WENK… WTPR 101.7 – the greatest hits of all time.” Mixing with UNID Mexican station. Mediocre signal barely five miles SW of the stick and with day pattern showing as thrown right at me and deep into the gulf. Matches DXN 84‐01 “AM Switch” column of “applies to extend STA, reduced power” status. (TLK‐FL1) 1600 WTZQ NC Hendersonville ‐10/2 2057 – Fair with Kenny Rogers “Love Will Turn You Around,” “Q95.3 FM and 1600 AM WTZQ Hendersonville, Ashville...” ID, “Want a great update for your home in Summer?” (ad for The Outlet on Kanuga Bend, 401 Kanuga Road). Unreported Domestic Stations In this issue two stations reported to DDXD that had not been reported since 1999‐2000 (Volume 67) – these would be WDTM‐1150 and WHGS‐1270. The full list was last printed in issue 83‐19.

(FH‐OK) 580 WIBW KS Topeka – 10/4 0635 – Poor in with others, calls, “now now FM News 104.9” (translator). (JJR‐WI) 600 KOGO CA San Diego – 9/30 0838 – ID as “Newsradio 600, Kogo,” ad for 1st Republic Bank at 0840, relog but also excellent signal. (FH‐OK) 710 WTPR TN Paris – 9/24 0700 – Poor over other station (NOS,OLD?). Sat through 3 oldies then LID for WENK,WTPR‐FM, WTPR. News. Others nulled. (JJR‐WI) 720 KDWN NV Las Vegas – 9/17 0814 – As XEJCC Juárez is fading out, something in English from E/W, talking about César Chávez and Harvey Milk; 0817 several ads to 0821 fading with toll‐free numbers, starting with anti‐IRS Tax Shield. Hard to see how this could be anything but KDWN; nothing else out there {besides Kauai . . .} on 720. Per web site, Jerry Doyle Show scheduled 0600‐0900 Saturdays. I do occasionally hear them around sunrise here, always wondering if they are really on ND day pattern. (GH‐OK) 730 CHMJ BC Vancouver – 10/1 0904 – “This is AM 730 Vancouver’s traffic and information station,” that slogan again at 0908 into bridge and tunnel report. 0909 “AM730.ca” into “AM 730 construction update.” Totally covering XEHB. New logging. (NJ‐AZ) 800 WSVS VA Crewe – 10/4 0623 – Poor; ad for Taylor Tires at 1414 ??? Avenue in Crewe. Time check, calls, no CKLW. (JJR‐WI) 800 WDUX WI Waupaca – 9/27 0746 – C&W music; canned ID at 0747: “Classic Country AM 800 WDUX ‐ we play the...?..” and into more music. Briefly fair but soon faded. A semi‐rare ‘W’ call here. (JW‐CO) 810 KSWV NM Santa Fe – 7/31 2215 – Romantic music in Spanish loops east‐west, which rules out México and makes it very likely KSWV. Dominant signal making fast SAH with something, CO or MO? Segués 2216, 2220 with no announcements at all, but the final tune cut short at 2221 to dead air, 2223 off the air, or maybe cut from 5000 to 10 watts night power. FCC official July sunset was 2215; August 2200. (GH‐OK) 810 WDMP WI Dodgeville – 9/23 0709 – Poor; C&W song & “D99.3” jingle. Not heard in a while. (JJR‐WI) 880 WIJR IL Highland – 9/22 2244 – Ranchera music looping E/W, need to listen on LSB to avoid strong day‐power cheating KHAC NM/AZ in English which is USB only (almost, some bleed over into LSB?). That leaves KRVN‐NE on DSB which I can’t null completely so still a lot of QRM for this one. Live DJ gives his cabina phone number; 2247 another announcement, 2250 fading down. 2302 fading up 14 a bit for music, 2304 time check I can’t copy. From previous experience it is probably WIJR. (GH‐OK) 890 KDXU UT St. George – 9/22 0818 – With KTLR OKC nulled, understation mentions southern Utah, USU, “here on KDXU,” at sunrise here, so should still be on night pattern with a cardioid null toward . We are somewhat off that bearing, but still not getting much from KDXU unless it’s really ND day pattern. (GH‐OK) 910 WHSM WI Hayward – 9/23 0708 – Poor; “Lite Hits, 910 WHSM” after song. ?? tires, Hwy 63 S of Hayward. Alone. (JJR‐WI) 930 KAPR AZ Douglas – 10/3 0831 – Spanish ID: “...todo en KAPR 930 AM transmitiendo desde Douglas [“DOOG‐lahs”] con exitos de los 80’s, 90’s, y exitos de hoy” and into Mexican music. Been hearing this daily pre‐sunrise, and definitely stronger than listed 71 watts night power. (JW‐CO) 930 WBEN NY Buffalo – 10/2 0602 – Poor; “…at 1 o clock on WGR 550”; weather “WBEN” @:05. (JJR‐WI) 930 WKY OK Oklahoma City – 9/18 08/52 – WKY’s indominatable (indominable?) banda music is suffering IADs every few seconds (intermittent audio dropouts). No one aware at station? No one at station? (GH‐OK) 930 KLUP TX Terrell Hills – 10/3 0759 – Legal ID at 6:59:50: “Stimulating talk ‐ this is 930 AM The Answer....Salem Media Group KLUP Terrell Hills‐San Antonio,” News from TownHall.com at ToH was followed by local news and weather headlines. Fair peaks with fading. New here, TX #184. (JW‐CO) 940 WYLD LA New Orleans – 9/17 2149 – Big dominant signal with no QRM. Bunch of ads, finally a local one for something in Gretna, and 2150 ID as “Amen 940 with fresh new music now!” Gospel music, that is. Both day and night lobes this way, but sure sounds more like 10,000 than 500 watts. (GH‐OK) 960 KGWA OK Enid – 9/25 0115‐0120+ – Local KGWA is in dead air, giving me a rare chance to null what’s left of it and DX something else, but nothing identifiable in the jumble. KGWA used to provide an occasional “Fox‐hole” during the news block 0100‐0105, but not tonight nor any night caught in many months. So I dare not keep listening longer lest my ears be blasted with the volume way up, without a predictable restoration time like 0105 was. (GH‐OK) 960 KLAD OR Klamath Falls – 10/2 0847 – ESPN programming; Legal ID at ToH: “KLAD Klamath Falls and K227CU Klamath Falls”; pregame coverage of the Jaguars‐ Colts NFL game from London followed. Chased this one for several days with tantalizing “mybasin.com” and “ESPN 93.3 and 960” non‐ID’s before getting LIDs on 9/30 and 10/2. No sign of closer KOVO in the same loop direction. A new catch here, OR #19. (JW‐CO) 990 WCAZ IL Carthage – 10/3 0723 – Poor with farm commodities, RFD‐, Illinois Ag weather. No calls and CBW nulled! (JJR‐WI) 1000 KTOK OK Oklahoma City – 9/17 2143 – KTOK OKC is in baseball, and it’s Dodgers! Half a continent away from L.A., but with ad for CHLA.org and talking about Dodgers, but whence? Finally, “here in Phœnix.” One week ago in Kansas City, KAZ asked me if KTOK carried Dodgers, as he was hoping he was getting one of the Californians on 1000. I thought KTOK unlikely, but there it is. Neil Kazaross replies, “Yep, I did some googling and OKC’s minor league teams is the Dodgers affiliate so this may explain KTOK. 73 and thx KAZ PS hoping some TP audio can make it to you. ‘It never occurred to me that there could be a Dodgers BB team other than the one in Los Angeles. (GH‐OK) 1010 WHIN TN Gallatin – 10/5 0711 – Poor; detailed weather, obits “in Gallatin.” CFRB nulled. (JJR‐WI) 1020 KCKN NM Roswell – 10/2 0600 – Poor with KDKA nulled. LID, string of affiliates. (JJR‐WI) 1050 KGTO OK Tulsa – 9/22 1621 – On car radio I finally get around to checking these out: I am not hearing any QRM, but there are two weak signals making a SAH of 6 to 7 Hz during music. I don’t hear any echo so the two must be well‐synchronized. 1638 a commercial for Walgreen’s, no QRM and no echo. 1640 now there are conflicting commercials during local cutaway. Recheck at 1656 now one is in music and the other in talk, continuing past 1700, can’t hear any IDs but obviously these are the two Okie stations near limits of groundwave. KGTO Tulsa, approx. 102 miles, is 1 kW non‐directional; KXCA Lawton, approx. 125 miles, is 0.25 kW directional away from Tulsa. Both have negligible night powers, pace XEG. (GH‐OK) 15 1060 KIJN TX Farwell – 9/19 2131 – Praise music in Spanish with slight edge over the CCI; 2134 as “KIJN, desde Farwell, Tejas – testimonios, adoración,” website and postal address, “y mil bendiciones.” Call letters pronounced in Spanish. Not exactly a gringo accent, but not true Mexican accent either. So confirmed reactivated after almost two years. Is 10 kW daytimer, slightly directional circular pattern favoring the WNW, but plenty this way too. Guess what? Official FCC sunset for KIJN in September was 2100. Back to their old tricks; will carrier and/or modulation stay on all night? 1060+, 9/20 0158 – Praise music in Spanish about a mujer, from WSW making fast SAH and I can tell this one is offset to the hi side of 1060; 0203 ID as “KIJN, 1060 AM, Farwell, , donde el espíritu [vive?].” So just as I suspected when hearing it a few hours earlier but definitely after sunset, this 10 kW daytimer is once again running all‐night. 9/21 0209 – 24 hours after last log, there KIJN is again, same fast SAH and praise music (GH‐OK) 1070 WINA VA Charlottesville – 10/2 0605 – Poor; CBS news, WINA Newsradio 1070 & 98.9 FM thru others. (JJR‐WI) 1070 CHOK ON Sarnia – 10/3 0719 – Poor, though WTSO not a factor today. “… presented by CHOK.” (JJR‐WI) 1250 KCFI IA Iowa Falls – 10/3 0711 – Poor; sat through 2 songs and heard calls. Tight WSSP null. First heard here 2001. Rare! (JJR‐WI) 1310 WTLC IN Indianapolis – 10/3 2039 – Poor with WIBA tightly nulled. “AM 1310 the Light” (JJR‐WI) 1310 KOKX IA Keokuk – 10/05 0000 – Out of C&W, “KOKX 1310 Keokuk” fair under KFKA (WH‐CO) 1340 KIKO AZ Apache Junction – 10/5 – My local has been off the air most of the past three weeks, returned 10/5 with Spanish programming. (NJ‐AZ) 1340 WXFN IN Muncie – 9/27 2058 – Station break during Cincinnati Reds game male announcer with “...on the Reds Radio Network” then different announcer “Fox Sports Radio heard on WXFN Muncie 1340 AM and W275AJ Muncie 102.9 FM.” (RR‐IL) 1370 KDTH IA Dubuque – 9/24 1936 – Out of a jumbled mess jumps up a lady singing a jingle “...... KPTH” into nostalgic type music. Couldn’t make out what she sang but it wasn’t “the voice of the Tri‐States” as listed in NRC AM Log #37 but very clear KPTH ID. (RR‐IL) 1370 WLJW MI Cadillac – 9/24 2026 – Mixing with Indians‐White Sox ball game on WSPD with religious talk and mentions of “northern .” Presumed as no ID, but only other MI station on 1370 is WGHN from Grand Haven & that’s not “,” but Cadillac is. Plus NRC AM Log #37 lists WLJW format as religious. (RR‐IL) 1370 KWRT MO Boonville – 10/2 1933 – Poor; “1370 AM KWRT” between C&W songs. No usual WSPD. (JJR‐WI) 1410 KLEM IA Le Mars – 10/05 0000 – “This is 1410 KLEM Le Mars and 96.9 FM.” New log & taped. (WH‐CO) 1440 CKJR AB Wetaskiwin – 10/02 0659 – “… Radio Station AM 1440 CKJR…” faded up in lull of KPUR & KMAJ. Call change ex‐CJOI. Taped. (WH‐CO) 1460 KHOJ MO St. Charles – 9/28 0852 – Local talk, phone number 314‐752‐7777. (FH‐OK) 1470 KYYW TX Abilene – 10/1 2155 – News, talk and ID “News talk” with call ID, over/under SS signals. (JR‐OK) 1480 KBXD TX Dallas – 9/18 0839 – South Asian songs, so KBXD is back on the air this morning, making 160/minute SAH (= two and two thirds Hz) with talker KQAM Wichita KS, and more or less separable from it by mutual nulling. (GH‐OK) 9/28 0856 – Asian music with announcer in EE. (FH‐OK) 1520 KOLM MN Rochester – 9/19 2123 – “Sports‐radio 1520 The Ticket” ID audible under KOKC OKC just as I tune in; the usual cheatin` KOLM. (GH‐OK) 1530 KGBT TX Harlingen – 10/4 2304 – Out of SS music, “KGBT Harlingen… Amor Celestial 1530 AM” in accented EE. Haven’t heard this in years. (WH‐CO) 1540 KEDA TX San Antonio – 10/2 2130 – Good selection of ‘50s blues music with San Antonio ads and announcements in EE. (JR‐OK) 1560 KTUI MO Sullivan – 10/5 0722 – Fair; no sign of semi local WGLB. Obits, “65 (degrees) at the studios of KTUI.” (JJR‐WI) 1580 KFCS CO Colorado Springs – 9/23 2048 – “Old Rugged Cross” by bass other than Tennessee Ernie Ford, loops ESE/WNW, 2051 segué to choral hymn. (No sign of 16 KOKB Blackwell OK, while sibling 1020 KOKP Perry OK is sports‐talking). Dominant signal on 1580, and 2128 recheck, preacher closing ‘Our Daily Bread’, 2129 ID like WBSS?, but that’s wrong. Ad for used Mercedes‐Benz; 2130 AM 1580 into ‘Leading the Way with Dr. Michael Youssef’. Researching the likeliest, I soon come to KFCS Colorado Springs CO, and their schedule matches well enough in MDT: 6:00 Great Music of the Church Dr. Molly Snell; 7:00. Turning Point, David Jeremiah 7:30. Leading The Way with Michael Youssef, Ph.D. I previously tried the Leading The Way site, but find‐a‐station requires entering zip codes rather than just displaying a list of their “thousands” of outlets. (GH‐ OK) 1580 KGAF TX Gainesville – 10/2 2200 – Oldies and ID “Hometown Radio.” Brief good reception then signal was lost in a fade out. (JR‐OK) 1600 KUSH OK Cushing – 9/25 1923 – Local ad promoting use of natural gas in Oklahoma, call letter ID at 1938. New for me, but it should have been logged long ago. (FH‐OK) 1670 KQMS CA Redding – 9/28 0908 – Local news, local ad, station promo “...KQMS streaming online...” Poor with KHPY. Ex‐KNRO. New logging. (NJ‐AZ) 9/29 0758 – LID at 0758:53 by man: “KQMS Redding‐Shasta Lake City, K289BT Anderson,” followed by Fox news. Generally fair with some good peaks and occasional light QRM from KHPY. A needed call change, ex‐KNRO. (JW‐CO)

UNID 990 UNID ‐‐ 9/21 0822 – Spanish station discussing some event in El Paso, with person on phone, but there is no El Paso/Juárez station on this frequency. Closest in Chihuahua, not very, is Cuauhtémoc, closest in USA is Artesia NM, not SS. XECL in Mexicali really gets out, so maybe this was it referring to a concert. Loops westward rather than southward, too late for XET Monterrey. (GH‐OK) 1060 UNID ‐‐ 9/18 0808 – “Buenos días” song, loops WSW, makes fast SAH with others, perhaps KIJN Farwell TX, which John Johnson, AZ, reports hearing again; had been off for a year or two, but before that was also significantly off‐frequency. QRM from another SS talking at 0813. Probably getting both KIJN and KXPL El Paso TX, but no definite ID yet for either. Last time I logged any audio from KIJN was Oct 7, 2014. (GH‐OK) 1420 UNID ‐‐ 9/25 2334 – Local break sounds like “here on C‐Q” and weather without local clues, back to financial advice show; best from E/W bearing? KJCK Junction City KS is talk, but WOC Davenport IA is too, and a regular here. I check the WTFDA FM Database for Davenport, anything with CQ in it?? Yes! KCQQ, 106.5, classic rock, as Q‐106.5, and no FM duplicate for WOC is listed. Are these two related anyway? Yes! FCC Queries show KCQQ and WOC are both licensed to Citicasters. (GH‐OK) 1500.5 UNID ‐‐ 9/22 2237 – The mystery whine is louder than I`ve ever heard it, really QRMing KSTP SBG, still loops east/west; harder to detect on lo side 1499.5. Thought to be somewhere around the New Madrid Fault multi‐state area. (GH‐OK)

OTHER Glenn Hauser Hauser sent along some changes on format, slogans, and other changes for some Oklahoma stations: 1050 KGTO OK Tulsa – Old slogan “1050 The Touch KGTO,” now “KGTO 1050 Heart and Soul.” 1050 KXCA OK Lawton – Was CBS Sports Radio, now The Touch urbat adul contemporary, old slogan “The Ticket 1050 AM,” new is “1050 AM Heart and Soul.” Both 1050 OKies on the same net now? Can barely hear both daytime or SR/SS, maybe echoing? (GH‐OK) 1380 KKRX OK Lawton – Was Westwood One The Touch urban adult contemporary, now CBS Sports Radio; old slogan “1380 The Touch,” new “The Ticket 1380.” (Via Bob Wien’s Broadcasting Information in IRCA DX Monitor) (GH‐OK)

“The band has been really noisy here with thunderstorm static but DX is getting through,” reports Mike Beu from Texas. “Got a tentative logging of 1570 Radio VEA, Guatemala, will keep trying to get a definite ID. Thanks for all you do for the NRC.” More importantly, thanks to Mike and our basket of ‘regulars’ who report their logs to the International DX digest column. It’s all of you who make it happen. How ‘bout the remainder of the NRC membership? Even if it’s just to report common reception of Cuba or Mexico, please check in to let everyone know what comes through the ether. Your log could be what inspires a neighbor to give international DXing a try. Thank you.

As usual, nothing readable from 800 XEROK to compare with, while 1300 XEP seems similar but of course not synchronized, as it seems every station does a separate playout rather than live network feeds of ‘La Hora Nacional’ or statish additions. SEP 30 0147 – Man and woman conversing in strange language, soon recognizable as Low German, sort of like Dutch; mentions El Paso. Has to be the Chihuahuan with Mennonite programming. [Connelly‐MA] 650 CUBA R.Progreso, Ciego de Avila SEP 6 0100 – Pop female vocal parallel 640, some wobbling; mixed with HJKH. [Connelly‐MA] 650 MEXICO XETNT Los Mochis, Sin. OCT 3 0336 – La Hora Nacional talking about Facebook; audible with WSM nulled, and peaks from southwest, so very likely XETNT with that state’s addendum to the national LHN. There are nine other XE’s on 650, but it seems XETNT is the only one I ever hear. There is a beep as transition every minute or so, outro segment as having come from La Suprema Corte de la Nación, why? 0338 into song, and now I am hearing the same music under KCSP on 610, i.e. sibling XEGS. [Hauser‐OK] 660 MEXICO XEEY Aguascalientes, Ags. SEP 27 1104 – “La Kaliente 102.9” ID, with 50/10 kW the dominant XE, surpassing XEDTL DF 50/1 kW. [Hauser‐OK] 670 CUBA R.Rebelde, multiple sites SEP 6 0101 – Rebelde 9‐note sounder, splashes, news by woman; huge, way over WWFE. [Connelly‐MA] 680 MEXICO XEORO Guasave, Sin. SEP 25 1202 – Mexican national anthem, 1204 “La Mera Jefa” Guasave ID with jingle incorporating 93.7 FM. 1200 is when XE’s in the UTC‐6 zone (such as MDT here) anthem away. [Hauser‐OK] 680 PUERTO RICO WAPA San Juan SEP 6 0101 – Fast‐talk Spanish man and woman Puerto Rican news; under WRKO. [Connelly‐MA] 690 COLOMBIA HJCZ, W Radio, Bogotá SEP 6 0102 – “W Radio en Colombia” ID; over Cuba. [Connelly‐MA] 690 CUBA R.Progreso, Santa Clara//Santiago de Cuba SEP 6 0059 – Female vocal parallel 640; mixed with HJCZ. [Connelly‐MA] 700 COLOMBIA HJCX, W Radio, Cali SEP 6 0100 – W Radio ID, promo’s/adverts; good. [Connelly‐MA] 700 MEXICO XEGD Hidalgo del Parral, Chih. SEP 30 1224 – Man and woman alternating with news from Milenio network, loops southwest. Most likely XEGD. They do have news hours in the morning, but no mention of Milenio as a source athttp://lapoderosadeparral.com.mx/programacion.html. OCT 5 0559 – Romantic music in Spanish from southwest, hardly any WLW to compete from opposite direction. 0600 into brief choral national anthem, 0601 full ID for 25 kW on 90.3, 5 kW on 700, street address, phone numbers from “XEGD, La Poderosa de Parral,” Chihuahua. [Hauser‐OK] 710 CUBA R.Rebelde, multiple sites SEP 6 0101 – Talk by man and woman, 9‐note sounder, man “Las Noticias,” news by woman; huge, trouncing WOR. [Connelly‐MA] 720 NICARAGUA R.Católica, Managua OCT 3 0212 – Woman in religious talk. Good signal. Station typically signs off at 0430 with national anthem. [Beu‐TX] OCT 3 1024 – Droning children’s choral, rosary reading by male from 1025 UTC. [Krueger‐FL] 720 unID SEP 6 0100 – Initially a jumble of stations, then female Spanish folk religious vocal atop, ran beyond 0102 UTC end of capture, probably Nicaragua. [Connelly‐MA] 730 COLOMBIA HJCU Cadena Melodia, Bogotá SEP 6 0102 – Melodia mention, accordion music; under Cuba. [Connelly‐MA] 730 CUBA R.Progreso, La Fe SEP 6 0059 – Female vocal parallel 640; dominant. [Connelly‐MA] OCT 7 0900 – Over/under CKAC; canned ID with theme song, “Radio Progreso, cadena nacional, la onda de la alegría...” and chime with time check, “Cinco en la manaña,” parallel 640 and 690 kHz. [Conti‐NH] 730 MEXICO XESOS Agua Prieta, Son. OCT 2 1227 – Suprema Corte federal PSA, two Spanish stations; 1229, “La Ranchera 97.3” from one of them which leads to XESOS. Have heard it occasionally, but rarely vs. XEHB Parral, Chihuahua. [Hauser‐OK] 740 MEXICO XEQN Torreón, Coah. OCT 3 0350 – Same cantante segment as just heard on 780 from Coahuila en la Hora Nacional, so this is XEQN and the one making that horrible low audible heterodyne against KRMG Tulsa, which is overridden when nulled as much as possible. [Hauser‐OK] 750 VENEZUELA YVKS, RCR, Caracas SEP 4 0101 – Mentions of Venezuelan cities including Carabobo, Valencia. SEP 6 0100 – Venezuelan political speech; over Cuba, WSB. [Connelly‐ MA] OCT 2 0258 – Over/under WSB and R.Progreso; sports commentary, “...por Radio Caracas Radio 750 AM.” At 0400 choral national anthem. Measured frequency slightly low at 749.989 kHz, along with WSB Atlanta at 749.998/9 and R.Progreso Cuba at 750.001 kHz. Also observed a weak unID offset at 749.983 kHz, much stronger pre‐dawn. [Conti‐NH] 760 COLOMBIA HJAJ, RCN, Barranquilla SEP 4 0100 – Excited sports shouting parallel 770 HJJX. [Connelly‐MA] 20 770 COLOMBIA HJJX, RCN, Bogotá SEP 4 0100 – Man with fast excited sports talk parallel 760 HJAJ; mixed with Cuba, WABC. [Connelly‐MA] 770 CUBA R.Rebelde, Victoria de las Tunas SEP 6 0101 – 9‐note sounder, splashes; under WABC. [Connelly‐MA] 770 CUBA R.Artemisa, Artemisa SEP 29 1510 – Mixing with WJXB North Fort Myers, which isn’t present back at the house, just Artie all alone. [Krueger‐Ft.DeSoto, FL] 770 MEXICO XEREV Los Mochis, Sin. SEP 30 1226 – Federal PSA for Canal del Congreso (on cable? TV?), ads, Grupo Chávez promo, i.e. XEREV, listed 5000/100 watts, another one which surely must be on day power long before local sunrise since sunrise is right now in Enid a sesquimegameter northeastward. It would be very helpful if the next IRCA Mexican Log list which Grupo to which each station pertain. [Hauser‐OK] 780 MEXICO XESFT La Poderosa, San Fernando, Tamps. OCT 3 1059 – Mexi‐tune, male canned ID with calls/slogan and AM‐FM frequencies at 1102, into anthem, same ID 1104 and back to Mexi‐tunes. Excellent. [Krueger‐FL] 780 MEXICO XEWGR Monclova, Coah. OCT 3 0341 – With WBBM nulled, discussion of Lucha Libre (fake wrestling), masks, etc., 0346 ending this segment, 0347 ID as “Coahuila en La Hora Nacional,” on to a segment about a cantante, Luís somebody who is really from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, but never mind that off‐topic. The only Coahuilan on 780 is XEWGR. [Hauser‐ OK] 780 VENEZUELA YVMN R.Coro, Coro SEP 6 0102 – Coro ID, jingles; fair. [Connelly‐MA] 790 CUBA R.Reloj, Pinar del Río//Holguín SEP 6 0101 – Reloj ticks, beeps; under WPRV, WAXY. [Connelly‐MA] SEP 29 1514 – Pinar de Río fair when WAXY nulled. [Krueger‐Ft.DeSoto, FL] 800 BONAIRE PJB TransWorld Radio, Kralendijk SEP 6 0100 – R.Transmundial ID by woman, then Spanish male preacher; over WSVS C&W music. [Connelly‐MA] SEP 30 0136 – On the east/west Wellbrook, a gospel huxter in Spanish is audible vs KQCV. Doubt it’s XEROK which has been out of sound lately, off or very low power. Likely PJB. Then nulling KQCV as much as possible on the DX‐398, during Focus on the Family, I’m getting mix from another station with sports in English, CKLW Windsor? Sked does not show any play‐by‐play sports pre‐empting talk shows. Well, there are plenty of USA 800 stations allowed less than 1 kW at night. At 0143, hymn in Spanish; 0145 a bit of ranchera music – that could be XEROK. 0146 announcement about Luis Palau – bingo! Same program logged at this time last OCT 6 as in DXLD 15‐40, and traced to PJB. So I ask again, is TWR up to 450 kW yet? Unseems so. Anyhow, it’s quite possible to hear four countries at once on 800 kHz. [Hauser‐OK] 800 MEXICO XEROK Cd. Juárez, Chih. SEP 30 1206 – With KQCV nulled as much as possible, weak and tentative “Cañón” mentioned, i.e. XEROK on much reduced power, no cannon, let alone a border‐blaster any more. [Hauser‐OK] 800 NICARAGUA Radio 800, Managua OCT 3 1038 – Classical instrumental segued to “Creo en Dios” by Tony Croatto, then live male ID, “50,000 watts de potencia... buenos dias, buenos dias, buenos dias.” Sounding very much like a sign‐on though not listed as so in this hour. Into campesino folk vocals, took a listener call at 1054, he who mentioned “Sandino” twice. Maybe his surname, or just a fan of good ole Augusto Nicolás Sandino? Into old folk song from scratchy vinyl source, more obvious when paralleling to their stream, the best and safest is: http://es.streema.com/radios/Radio_800_AM_Managua. [Krueger‐FL] 810 BAHAMAS ZNS3 Freeport SEP 6 0058 – Atop with calypso song about spending all your money. [Connelly‐MA] 810 COLOMBIA HJCY Caracol Radio, Bogotá OCT 7 0901 – Under WGY; woman mentions emisora and Colombia, then a quick canned Caracol. [Conti‐NH] 820 CUBA R.Reloj, Ciego de Avila SEP 6 0059 – RR beeps in jumble with WNYC and other Latin Americans. [Connelly‐MA] 850 CUBA R.Reloj, Nueva Gerona SEP 29 1522 – Fair. [Krueger‐Ft.DeSoto, FL] 860 BRAZIL ZYJ459 Radio CBN, Rio de Janeiro SEP 6 0058 – Two men in Portuguese conversation; briefly dominant. [Connelly‐MA] 860 CUBA R.Reloj, Jovellanos//Bolondrón SEP 6 0102 – Reloj RR beeps; over Brazil. [Connelly‐ MA] 870 CUBA R.Reloj, Baracoa‐Van Van//Bueycito//Sancti Spíritus SEP 23 0259 – I am noticing that WWL has some music interference, but also some R.reloj as an “RR” fires in Morse. The music is probably KJMP Pierce, as Kaz reported, “KJMP 870 Colorado into Illinois – KJMP with their oldies is bothering WWL tonight here near Chicago for a new catch for me. They must be seriously out of spec and none of their patterns is supposed to put much this way. They were loud crushing WWL at the Convention in Kansas City. [Hauser‐OK] 900 CUBA R.Progreso, San Germán‐Urbano Noris SEP 6 0100 – Female vocal parallel 640; dominant. [Connelly‐MA] 21 910 CUBA R.Cadena Agramonte, Camagüey‐Tagarro SEP 4 0101 – R.Cadena Agramonte ID; over jumble. [Connelly‐MA] 910 VENEZUELA YVRQ Caracas SEP 6 0102 – Venezolana mentions, doorbells; over jumble. [Connelly‐MA] 940.07 unID SEP 6 0100 – Growl, not much audio. [Connelly‐MA] 950 CUBA R.Reloj, Arroyo Arenas//Camagüey‐Isábel Hortensia//Santiago de Cuba‐Frente SEP 6 0059 – Reloj beeps; under WKDN, others. [Connelly‐MA] 950.51 unID SEP 4 0100 – Weak off‐channel het. [Connelly‐MA] 960 CUBA R.Reloj, Guantánamo‐La Piña SEP 6 0059 – Reloj beeps, ticks; under WELI. [Connelly‐ MA] 980 CUBA COCO La Habana‐El Sapo SEP 29 1531 – Man and woman, Cuban pop vocals fill. [Krueger‐Ft.DeSoto, FL] 980 MEXICO XEFQ Canaea, Son. OCT 2 1235 – As I tune in, full ID for XEFQ, La FQ, IMER station in Cananea, Sonora, also on FM; AM power 2500/500 watts. Correlates with 730 XE and 930 unID logs from hot‐spot area at the moment, around the Arizona border. [Hauser‐ OK] 990 CUBA R.Guamá, Pinar del Río‐Politécnico SEP 6 0059 – Telco‐grade Spanish talk by man; mixed with WNTP. [Connelly‐MA] 1000 CUBA R.Artemisa, Artemisa SEP 6 0100 – Wobbler; in IBOC hash. [Connelly‐MA] SEP 29 1535 – Ridiculously wobbling away. [Krueger‐Ft.DeSoto, FL] SEP 30 0140 – KTOK has interference from a whoop‐whoop sound, at the rate of twice per second, the pitch varying up and down from time to time – like the curiously malfunctioning Cuban reported occasionally on various frequencies, including here. [Hauser‐OK] 1030 ARGENTINA LS10 Radio del Plata, Buenos Aires SEP 3 0100 – Radio Noticias del Plata ID getting through WBZ. [Connelly‐MA] 1040 CUBA R.Mayabeque, Güines OCT 2 0300 – Over WCHR; canned ID with signature melody; “Transmite Radio Mayabeque, desde... tu emisora amiga,” parallel 1140 kHz. [Conti‐NH] 1060 CUBA Radio 26, Jovellanos SEP 29 1544 – Man and woman with local events, very good. [Krueger‐Ft.DeSoto, FL] OCT 2 0302 – Over/under KYW; Cuban big band/salsa, canned ID with signature piano music, “Esta es Radio 26, desde Matanzas, Cuba.” [Conti‐NH] 1060 MEXICO XEEP R.Educación, México, DF SEP 26 0339 – Two Spanish mixing, one mentions Planeta Verde. Presumably two XE’s with separate appendices to La Hora Nacional. One of them should be XEEP, but too little modulation on 6185 XEPPM, and too much splash from 6180 Brasil to make a match. Until 0354 when I can do so with the 6185 just‐barely‐ modulation. The other could be XERDO Matamoros/Reynosa which would be Tamaulipan programming, and by the way is on‐frequency with no het any more. [Hauser‐OK] OCT 1 0500 – Under KYW and het from presumed off‐frequency XERDO; choral national anthem. [Conti‐NH] 1080 CUBA R.Cadena Habana/R.Ciudad de la Habana, La Habana‐Villa María SEP 29 1425 – Male hosting nice mostly boleros, ID, excellent when WHOO nulled. [Krueger‐Ft.DeSoto, FL] 1100 COLOMBIA HJAT Caracol Radio, Barranquilla SEP 4 0059 – Fast talk mentioning Bucaramanga; mixed with WTAM. [Connelly‐MA] 1110 CUBA R.Angulo, Holguín OCT 1 0000 – Under WBT; spacey music and doorbell chimes. [Conti‐NH] 1140 CUBA R.Mayabeque, La Salud OCT 2 0300 – Over/under WRVA; canned ID parallel 1040 kHz. [Conti‐NH] OCT 2 1520 – Fair with radio novella program, ID 1540. This one operates 6 a.m. to midnight local, and presumably then simulcasts R.Rebelde overnight per RadioCuba, as per the R.Mayabeque website: “La programación de Radio Mayabeque comienza a las 6 de la mañana y se extiende hasta las 12 de la noche con espacios que abarcan los más disímiles temas: informativos, variados, dramatizados, históricos y musicales.” [Krueger‐FL] 1140 CUBA R.Musical Nacional, Santa Clara SEP 6 0102 – Classical music parallel 590; mixed with other Cubans, WRVA, WQBA. [Connelly‐MA] 1140 CUBA R.Surco, Morón OCT 7 1000 – Over WRVA; extended version of canned hourly ID with signature music followed by a jingle, then more of the music. [Conti‐NH] 1140 MEXICO XEMR R.Esperanza, Monterrey, NL SEP 26 0337 – “Nuevo León en la Hora Nacional,” same about Cervantes as on 1190 but not synchronized; gives cabina phone number, as if this is really live; much stronger here. When we hear it like this, which is most of the time, we can’t believe it is on night pattern toward the southwest. [Hauser‐OK] OCT 2 1130 – Spanish preacher, concluding with address in Monterrey, male Spanish canned “Radio Esperanza, desde Monterrey, México” at 1133, commercial string, station promo, into another Spanish preacher block from 1136. Excellent when pointed away from Cuba and WRMQ. [Krueger‐FL] 22 1180 CUBA R.Rebelde, multiple sites SEP 6 0101 – Very echoey news, sounder, splashes; over other Latin American or R.Martí. [Connelly‐MA] 1190 MEXICO XECT Contacto 1190, Monterrey, NL SEP 26 0336 – I’m looking for regional appendices to La Hora Nacional, and here’s one: lexure about Don Quixote and Cervantes, during “Nuevo León en la Hora Nacional,” plug for Universidad Autónoma de NL (all of which have nothing in particular to do with Cervantes). [Hauser‐OK] 1210 CUBA R.Rebelde, Las Tunas‐Jobabo SEP 6 0101 – 9‐note sounder; under WPHT. [Connelly‐ MA] 1280 MEXICO unID SEP 25 0501 – Mexican choral national anthem, amid lots of interference including sports from New Orleans. (A good time to seek XE’s, local midnite). Among several, most likely by proximity and power is XEAW Monterrey NL, 10/1 kW. [Hauser‐OK] 1530 MEXICO XEUR Éxtasis Digital, México, DF OCT 2 0801 – English pop/rock by Chicago, Juice Newton, Europe, The Police, A Flock Of Seagulls, Kim Carnes and most appropriately, “La Grange” by ZZ Top. Male canned calls/slogan/1530 AM/México DF bottom and top of each hour, mixing with KGBT and WCKY. [Krueger‐FL] 1540 BAHAMAS ZNS1 Nassau OCT 6 0930 – Very good with gospel vocals and a little later, a screaming Bahamian preacher. Wasn’t until a little past 1000 that they went into full Hurricane Matthew coverage with reports, callers with the eye about 60 miles southwest of Nassau. Signal just after 1000 degraded to lower power and audio has been a bit scratchy since last evening. With power somewhat reduced, KZMP University Park, Texas, co‐ channel with Mexi‐tunes. ZNS1 off the air shortly after Matthew’s eye passed near, still off as of OCT 7 1030 check. [Krueger‐FL] 1550 CUBA R.Rebelde, multiple sites SEP 29 1443 – Nulling my local WAMA, poor with Joe Cocker live “With a Little Help from My Friends” segued to the real Beatles “All You Ned Is Love” parallel 1180 kHz. One of the west Cuba sites, who knows which as at least three are plausible. [Krueger‐Ft.DeSoto, FL] 1552.03 unID OCT 7 1000 – Het against 1550 CBEF. [Conti‐NH] 1570 MEXICO XERF La Poderosa, Cd. Acuña, Coah. OCT 3 0332 – Coahuila en la Hora Nacional, first topic “inicio de rock y roll en Coahuila.” Heavy interference de Missouri and plenty of other U.S. stations abolishing this as a clear channel. [Hauser‐OK] 1610 ANGUILLA Caribbean Beacon, The Valley SEP 6 0100 – Gene Scott preaching; over Bollywood Canadian. [Connelly‐MA] OCT 3 0111 – Religious talk by woman. Very good signal peaks throughout the evening. [Beu‐TX] 1610 MEXICO XEUACH R.Chapingo, Chapingo, Edo.Mex. OCT 3 0112 – Very good signal with regional folk music and “Radio Chapingo” ID’s. Station plays a wide range of music – you name it. [Beu‐TX] 1660 PUERTO RICO WGIT Canovanas OCT 1 0551 – Religious programming with talk by man. Good signal. [Beu‐TX]

TRANS‐PACIFIC DX 1566 SOUTH KOREA HLAZ Jeju OCT 7 0900‐1002 – Presumed this with talk at times barely breaking through 1560 WFME and 1570 WMVX splatter. Faded out with local receiver sunrise by 1050 recheck. [Conti‐NH] Transpacific carrier searches. SEP 25 1153‐1215 – Japan/East Asia (loops northwest) 693, 774, 747, 882 kHz; Australia/New Zealand (loops west/southwest) 594, 612, 702, 828, 882 kHz. At 1209 UTC, 1098 kHz west, between the bearings of most of the others as fits for Marshall Islands; Majuro is 277 from here. Enid sunrise 1222 UTC. SEP 28 1211‐1223 – Australia/New Zealand 594, 657, 675, 693, 702, 774, 828, 1548 kHz. Marshall Islands (west) 1098 kHz. Enid sunrise 1225 UTC. SEP 29 1212‐1214 – Australia/New Zealand 594, 612, 702, 774, 828 kHz, and maybe Tahiti 738 kHz. SEP 30 1159‐1221 – Australia/New Zealand 585, 594, 612, 702, 747, 774, 792, 882, 1035 kHz. Japan/East Asia 1557 kHz. OCT 3 1207‐1223 – Australia/New Zealand 702, 774, 882, 891 kHz. 738 (southwest) likely Tahiti. I continue to detect these on the DX‐398 with internal ferrite only. A complete 9‐kHz bandscan (1 kHz offset with BFO) on the R75 with 100+ foot east/west longwire could not hear any of them. [Hauser‐ OK]

73 and Good DX!

From the DX News archives …. Now thanks to Ron Schiller. 75 Years Ago – From the October 4, 1941 issue of DX News: 10 DX Tests were on October’s calendar, from Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Canada, and the US. Fred Van Vorhees edited the SW column; countries heard included Mozambique, Philippines, and ‘Aden Arabia.’ Randolph Hunt provided a listed of DU MW stations; 10 kW was the max for all AU stations. Similarly, NZ’s cap was exceeded by only 2YA‐570 at 50 kW. 50 Years Ago – From the October 15, 1966 issue of DX News: Ernest Cooper said veries were “hard to come by” (in 1966), but he added several to up his total to 3,526. Pittsburgh’s Hanciko Brothers noted an Aurora and caught Radio Barbados‐780 at 10 p.m.! Binghamton, NY’s Tom Birch noted Montanan KXLF‐1370 “in the clear” circa 1 a.m. He also logged 2YC‐660 on his Hallicrafters SX‐ 99/loop‐33’ doublet array. John Hoogerheide (OR) logged LV3‐1210 Córdoba, Argentina for an hour! 25 Years Ago – From the October 14, 1991 issue of DX News: Canadian loggings in Domestic DX Digest East included CHYR‐730 ON, CKLY‐910 ON, CJCH‐920 NS, CFOR‐1570 ON, CFJR‐830 ON, & CHOW‐1470 ON, all of whom have moved to FM, as well as defunct CJMS‐1280 QC (a rare 50 kw NA station so fated) & CJRP‐1060 QC. Of this week’s loggings, only CKNX‐920‐ON remains on AM. Ray Moore (MA) reported TPs on 738, 747, & 1620. Bahamian beacon ZLS‐526 (500 w) reported in FL. 10 Years Ago – From the October 9, 2006 issue of DX News: New Brunswick, Canada’s Neil Wolfish reported Gambia‐648, Azores‐693, Madeira‐1125, Lesotho‐1197, & Sao Tome‐1530! Connelly (MA) & Conti (NH) heard Turkey‐1062. Hawaii’s Richard Wood drew a comparison of his Alaskan loggings 80s vs. 2005. Twenty‐eight AKs logged in 1980s compared to only 4 in 2005! (I’d settle for one, Ed).
