HENRY DOMINGUEZ Henry Dominguez is coming off another sensational season at Sunland Park, in which he topped the trainers standings with 39 wins, including multiple stakes winner Blazing Navarone, who captured the Four Rivers/John Deere Stakes as a 2-year-old, as well as the Red Hedeman Mile and New Mexico Breeders’ Derby during his 3-year-old campaign, which was capped off with an upset score in the New Mexico Classic Cup Derby Championship Stakes at Zia Park last November. Dominguez also saddled Fast Gator to a win in the La Señora Stakes last season. Dominguez’s runners earned nearly $860,000 during the Sunland season, winning at a 17 percent clip. Dominguez recently finished second in the trainer standings at the Downs at Albuquerque, with 19 winners and earnings topping $367,000. During the New Mexico Classic Cup day at Zia Park last November, Dominguez also sent out Diabolical Ruler to victory in the New Mexico Classic Cup Juvenile Championship Stakes. Dominguez has been a mainstay atop the trainer standings in New Mexico, finishing third in the 2016-17 Sunland season as well as winning the training title at Albuquerque in 2016. Among his most popular campaigners in recent years was Forest Mouse, a multiple stakes winner across the state of New Mexico. Many of his top runners are locally owned by J. Kirk and Judy Robison including former Sunland Park Handicap winner Isn’t He Clever. Dominguez won the 2007 WinStar Derby with Song of Navarone. A trainer since 1990, the El Paso native has become one of the leading trainers in the region, with more than 1,830 career wins and over $36 million in purses won.

TODD FINCHER Todd Fincher captured one of the highlights of his training career when he saddled Runaway Ghost to victory in the $800,000 Grade 3 Sunland Derby this past season. That victory was one of many highlights this past season, in which he recorded 31 winners with purse monies topping $1.43 million. Runaway Ghost, who is preparing to relaunch his racing career this season and is owned by Joe Peacock, was one of several stakes winners trained by Fincher at Sunland, including the likes of Hustle Up, winner of the Copper Top Futurity, as well as Sippin, who scored in the Peppers Pride Handicap, Tilla Cat, who won both the La Coneja Handicap in addition to the New Mexico Racing Commission Handicap and Hennessy Express, winner of the New Mexico Breeders’ Oaks and the Enchantress Stakes. This past summer, Fincher also saddled Kris Who to victory in the Casino at the Downs Derby at Albuquerque Downs. Fincher trained a pair of winners on New Mexico Classic Cup Day last November at Zia Park, including Roll On Matilda, winner of the New Mexico Classic Cup Lassie Championship Stakes as well as Bryn’s Fancy Pants, who scored in the New Mexico Classic Cup Distaff Sprint Championship Stakes. Fincher is fast approaching 1,000 career training victories and may well achieve that mark this season. Fincher is also coming off a strong season at Ruidoso Downs last summer, season, where he was the leading thoroughbred trainer with 21 wins from 77 starters and earnings of more than $368,000. Some of Fincher’s past stakes stars include Diabolical Dame, Smash Dancer, Enchanted Outlaw, Glory Be Mine, Chuchuluco and Queen Greeley. JUSTIN EVANS One of America’s leading trainers based upon win percentage, Justin Evans just missed capturing his sixth consecutive Sunland Park training title this past season, finishing second behind Henry Dominguez with 35 winners and purse monies topping $636,000. His top stakes winners this past season included Bill and Sue Tomasic’s multiple stakes winner Mt Veeder, winner of the KLAQ Handicap, as well as Budweiser Handicap winner Concord Fast for Teed Off Stables LLC, and Mt Cristo Rey winner Citizen Geller for UKUSA stables. Evans took top honors in the trainer standings at both the Downs at Albuquerque and SunRay Park and Casino meetings in 2018. In all, Evans runners have won nearly 90 races in 2018. In his career, which started in 1999, Evans has won nearly 2,000 races from over 8,300 starters with total earnings approaching $24 million. He is without question one of the most prolific trainers in Sunland Park history. His latest additions to a powerful stable include Veterans Stakes winner Harlan Punch and the $1.7 million winning sprinter Stallwalkin’ Dude. The well-bred Pendleton is another horse to watch. Justin owns a home in Santa Teresa, New Mexico and is joined on the racing circuit by wife Vanessa and their children Austin, Addison and Anderson.

MIGUEL HERNANDEZ In addition to his tremendous success as a jockey, Miguel Hernandez has blossomed into a leading trainer. Last season, Hernandez won 33 times from 168 starters, placing him third in the trainer standings. His biggest win during the past Sunland season was with Oh So Regal, who he saddled to victory in the $150,000 Sunland Park Handicap for Judge Lanier Racing. Hernandez has finished in the top 10 in the standings at both SunRay Park and Casino as well as the Downs at Albuquerque. The career defining moment for Hernandez came in 2017 when he saddled Conquest Mo Money to victories in the Riley Allison Stakes as well as the Mine That Bird Derby. Conquest Mo Money would parlay those efforts into a pair of second place finishes in both the Grade 3 $800,000 Sunland Derby and the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby. Hernandez has also teamed with Judge Lanier Racing to send out stakes winners like African Rose in the 2016 El Diario Handicap. Hernandez has won more than 170 races with earnings topping $3.7 million as a trainer since 2014 after a successful riding career that began in 1986 and has taken him from Mexico to various locations around the southwest, including Turf Paradise and southern California. Miguel’s riding career came to an abrupt end in 2013 after he was injured in a spill at Ruidoso Downs.

SUSAN ARNETT The Arnett family, long regarded as one of the top operations in the region, is coming off a spectacular run of success in 2018. Last season, Susan -- alongside husband Jon -- finished fourth in the trainer standings with 33 wins and earnings topping $492,000 from 144 starters. Included in their barn’s winners last season was multiple stakes winner Sky Defence, winner of both the Curribot and Winsham Lad Handicaps. Jon once again found success last summer at Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa, finishing third in the trainer standings with 37 winners and earnings topping $650,000. Susan continued with the barn’s success at Zia Park where she won the Roadrunner Handicap with Shred The Rules. Susan was among the leading trainers at the recent Zia Park season. She has been an active trainer since 2010 and is coming off her best career year, winning nearly 40 races with purse monies approaching $600,000. Between husband and wife, they’ve won more than 2,000 races with earnings topping $20 million. Under Jon’s direction, Happy Humor won the 2009 KLAQ Handicap and was a leading sprinter. Arnett turned American Classic into a sprinting champ during the 2009-10 campaign. He also trained the fast Winter Camp to victory in the 2011 Bill Thomas Memorial Stakes. Jon began training at Sunland Park in 1979 when he was 18 and won the combined training title during the 1993-94 season. Jon of course is the son of legendary Sunland Park trainer Bob E. Arnett.

CASEY LAMBERT Another former rider who has found massive success as a trainer, Lambert is coming off a strong 2017-18 season at Sunland, in which he recorded 17 winners from 104 starters with earnings topping $239,000. Lambert also found success at last summer’s Ruidoso Downs season, finishing second in the standings while amassing 17 winners from 89 starters. He sent out stakes winner Stealing Home, who captured the C.O. Ken Kendrick Memorial Futurity at SunRay Park and Casino. Lambert is entering this season coming off his best year as a trainer, with more than 44 winners in 2018. The 53-year-old Lambert retired from riding in 2015 after a career that spanned more than 30 years. In his time as a rider, Lambert won nearly 3,400 races on both and quarter horses. The most famous horse that Lambert ever rode is Mine That Bird, winner of the . ALFREDO JUAREZ JR. Alfredo Juarez, Jr., captured the Sunland Park jockey title last season, with a phenomenal 72-win mark, including a number of stakes winners highlighted by Oh So Regal in the $150,000 Sunland Park Handicap. He also guided Mt Veeder to stakes scores in both the KLAQ Handicap and the Bill Thomas Memorial Stakes. Juarez also rode Reride to victory in the Mine That Bird Derby. His mounts won at a 22 percent clip last season with earnings topping $1.5 million. Juarez was also the leading jockey this past summer at the Downs at Albuquerque, winning 47 times with earnings topping $736,000, and at SunRay Park and Casino, winning 38 times from 105 mounts and earnings topping $304,000. At Zia Park this season, Juarez captured stakes wins aboard Diabolical Ruler in the New Mexico Classic Cup Lassie Championship Stakes and aboard Thunder Dome in the Rocky Gulch New Mexico Classic Cup Championship Stakes. In 2017, Juarez won the Grade 3 $800,000 Sunland Derby aboard -trained Hence for owner Calumet Farms. That victory was among the 54 Juarez at Sunland in 2017, good for second in the win category to go along with topping the earnings category with more than $1.5 million in purse money. In a career that dates back to 1996, Juarez has won more than 2,930 races and is rapidly approaching a career milestone with his 3,000th lifetime victory. Juarez’s career mounts have earned over $52.4 million. He has enjoyed successful ventures at Arlington Park, Lone Star Park and Turf Paradise. In , he rode eventual 2003 Kentucky Derby winner to two victories. Alfredo was the leading rider at The Downs at Albuquerque and Zia Park in 2015 and is joined at Sunland Park by his wife Lisa and daughter Ashley.

TRACY HEBERT In his second full season at Sunland Park, Tracy Hebert made another big imprint on the local scene, finishing third in the standings with 41 winners and earnings topping $1.35 million, good for second place among the highest earnings. His most notable win last season was aboard Runaway Ghost, who captured the Grade 3 $800,000 Sunland Derby and $106,600 Riley Allison Derby for trainer Todd Fincher and owner Joe Peacock. Fincher and Hebert teamed up several more times during the Sunland season, most notably aboard Tilla Cat in both the New Mexico Racing Commission Handicap and the La Coneja Handicap and winning the Copper Top Futurity aboard Hustle Up. Hebert was the leading rider at Ruidoso Downs last season, winning 34 times from 118 mounts and earnings approaching $320,000. Hebert found success at the recent Zia Park season as well, winning the Peppers Pride New Mexico Classic Championship Fillies and Mares Stakes aboard Movin On for trainer Joel Marr. Hebert passed the 4,000 win milestone in 2017, and his mounts have earned nearly $57 million. In a career that dates back to 1979, Hebert’s best year may have been 2012, when he entered the winners circle 162 times from 962 starts, with mounts earning more than $3.2 million. Early in his career, Hebert had tremendous success in Louisiana, winning riding titles at Jefferson Downs and Delta Downs. Later, Hebert would move his tack to Thistledown, near Cleveland, where he was one of the top riders for several seasons in the 1990s before finding success in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, finishing third in the jockey standings during the 1997 season at . He also won riding titles at Ellis Park and Turfway Park. After a hiatus in the early 2000s, Hebert returned as the leading rider in 2004 at Delta Downs before riding at Canterbury Park, Remington Park and Mountaineer Park. ROIMES CHIRINOS Chirinos has made quite the impression at Sunland Park in a short amount of time. He finished fourth in the standings last season, good for 39 wins and earnings worth more than $939,000. He earned a great deal of his stakes success this past year with Todd Fincher, picking up wins aboard Hennessy Express in both the Enchantress Stakes and New Mexico Breeders’ Oaks as well as with Sippin in the Peppers Pride Handicap. Chirinos also scored a stakes win aboard K P Wildcat for trainer Weston Martin in the El Diario Handicap. During the summer season at the Downs at Albuquerque, Chirinos and Fincher found the winner’s circle again aboard Kris Who in the Casino at the Downs Derby. During the most recent Zia Park season, Chirinos earned a pair of stakes wins for Fincher, guiding Bryn’s Fancy Pants to the winners circle in the New Mexico Classic Cup Distaff Sprint Championship Stakes as well as Roll On Matilda, winner of the New Mexico Classic Cup Lassie Championship Stakes. Chirinos had a breakout season here in 2017, finishing in the top ten of the standings with 25 wins from 106 mounts and earnings topping $474,000. In 2016, Chirinos was impressive in his first season at Sunland, with 22 wins from 106 mounts. Also in 2016, Chirinos scored a pair of stakes wins during the season with Weston Martin-trained Tipsy Tea, scoring in the New Mexico Breeders’ Oaks and the Enchantress Stakes. He also rode Gary Cross-trained GM Gage to victory in the New Mexico State University Handicap. A lifetime winner of more than 620 races with purse earnings amassing $10.7 million, the 35-year-old Venezuelan native has been riding for more than 15 years and is a three-time winner of the Venezuelan Triple Crown. In 2006, Chirinos won six races in one day riding at Retama Park in Texas.

KEN TOHILL For nearly 16 years, Ken Tohill has won the most races at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino. Tohill is a six-time Sunland Park Thoroughbred riding champion and a winner of more than 3,700 races in his career with nearly $61 million in earnings. Last season at Sunland, Tohill finished fifth in the thoroughbred jockey standings with 31 wins and more than $890,000 in earnings. His stakes wins last season included a trio of wins aboard Joel Marr-trained Blamed, winner of the El Paso Times Stakes, as well as the Island Fashion Stakes and the Sunland Park Oaks. Tohill also teamed with trainer Susan Arnett aboard Sky Defence, who won both the Curribot Handicap and the Winsham Lad Handicap. Tohill was once again among the leading riders this past summer at Prairie Meadows this past summer. The former Northern California jockey ranks as one of the all-time leading riders in Sunland Park history. In 2005, he rode four stakes winners in one program. Tohill is joined on the racing circuit by his wife Robyn.

RY EIKLEBERRY Eikleberry had another successful season locally last year, finishing second in the jockey standings with 62 winners. His mounts earned more than $1.1 million and included stakes winners like Blazing Navarone, who won both the Red Hedeman Mile and New Mexico Breeders’ Derby for trainer Henry Dominguez. Eikleberry and Dominguez also found stakes together with Fast Gator in the La Senora Stakes and with trainer Justin Evans aboard Citizen Geller in the Mt Cristo Rey Handicap and with Concord Fast in the Budweiser Handicap. His second-place finish in the local jockeys’ room broke a 5-year streak in which he topped the standings. Eikleberry’s success was not just limited to New Mexico, as he captured the jockeys title last summer at Canterbury Park in Minnesota, winning 87 times with earnings topping $1.7 million. Eikleberry comes into this season off another strong campaign at Zia Park, where he was once again among the leading rider and earned a stakes win aboard Blazing Navarone in the New Mexico Classic Cup Derby Championship Stakes. Shifting his tack from Arizona to Sunland Park over five years ago has proven to be a lucrative move for Eikleberry. Hailing from a racing family, the young gun finished fifth in his first full season at Sunland Park in 2012 and completed the meet with four prestigious stakes wins. Currently, Eikleberry has won nearly 2,000 races with purse earnings topping $32.1 million. Eikleberry has also won titles at Turf Paradise, SunRay Park and Canterbury Park. Ry’s wife Jilique is a constant support on the circuit, and they have two young daughters named Revy and Roan.

ENRIQUE GOMEZ Gomez had a strong season at Sunland Park in 2017-18, finishing seventh in the standings with 28 winners and earnings nearing $600,000. Among his notable winners here last season was aboard Blazing Navarone, who earned a win in the Four Rivers/John Deere Stakes for trainer Henry Dominguez. Gomez enjoyed a great deal of success this past summer at the Downs at Albuquerque, where he was fourth in the local standings, earning stakes success with the likes of Fred Danley-trained Storm The Beach in the Manzano Stakes and Secular Nation, who captured the Duke City Sprint Stakes for trainer Henry Dominguez. Gomez also found success at SunRay Park in 2018, finishing in the top 10 among the local riding colony, earning a stakes win for Henry Dominguez aboard PJ’s Gold in the Totah Stakes. At the recent Zia Park season where Gomez is again among the meet’s leading riders , Gomez scored a stakes win aboard Susans Violette in the New Mexico Classic Cup Oaks Championship Stakes for trainer Chip Woolley. Since becoming a full time rider in 2010, Gomez has won nearly 900 thoroughbred races and more than 50 quarter horse races. OH SO REGAL 2018 WINNER

Oh So Regal scored a mammoth win with a track record setting performance in the 59th running of the $150,000 Sunland Park Handicap. Ridden by Alfredo Juarez Jr., Oh So Regal led every step of the way in the one mile and one-eighth feature for older horses. The four-year-old Sidney’s Candy colt controlled the tempo throughout and had plenty left for the stretch drive. The Judge Lanier owned star roared to a comprehensive 4-length win in a track record time of 1:47.21. The timing broke the former standard of 1:47.37 held by Proceed since April 12, 2015. Oh So Regal responded with a huge effort defeating stablemate Sphene and a talented group of stakes winners including Curribot and Winsham Lad Handicap winner Sky Defence. The recent allowance winner got away at 6-1 odds and returned $14.60 to win. Oh So Regal served notice with that allowance win in March and scored his first stakes triumph for trainer Miguel Hernandez. Oh So Regal earned $90,000 for owner Tom McKenna of Judge Lanier Racing. The Taiban, New Mexico resident is the leading Thoroughbred owner at Sunland Park Racetrack.
