At Aspen 2016, he managed to fight off a bad case of the flu to take Big Air bronze with a backside triple cork 1620 indy and a frontside triple cork 1440 mute despite breaking two snowboards during the competition. Parrot became only the second man to win both Snowboard Big Air and Slopestyle at the same X Games (McMorris). The 21-year-old Quebecois added Big Air silver in 2015 and Big Air gold at X Games Aspen 2016, bringing his XG medal total to five. Max is dedicated, driven and practices longer and harder than perhaps anyone at X Games. The second person to land a quad, Max stuck a quadruple Cab underflip in April of 2015. He represented Great Britain at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, finishing a respectable 10th in slopestyle, and he finished 9th at his only X Games appearance, 2014, just missing the Final at his debut. He repeated the feat in 2015, becoming the second snowboarder in history to earn double gold at a single event. At XG Aspen 2014, he slammed his torso into a rail and broke a rib during his final Slopestyle run. He still earned silver. He recovered just enough -- and just in time -- for the Winter Olympics, where he landed what he called a "dream run" but settled for bronze. But life is good. At 22, McMorris has nine XG medals, snowboards for money, dates pro surfer Coco Ho and lives in a SoCal home that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The 23-year-old has earned five X Games medals in seven appearances, including two Slopestyle gold: as an XG rookie in 2011 and at Tignes 2013. A defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the US Navy would expand its presence in the Mediterranean to four destroyers from three. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, en route to Asia, said Obama had asked the Pentagon for options on Syria, where an apparent chemical weapons attack that killed as many as 1,000 civilians has upped pressure on Washington to respond. “The Defense Department has responsibility to provide the president with options for all contingencies,” Hagel said. “And that requires posi- tioning our forces, positioning our assets, to be able to carry out different options - whatever options the presi- dent might choose.” He did not elaborate. The defense official, who was not authorized to speak publicly, said the USS Mahan, a destroyer armed with cruise missiles, had finished its deployment and was due to head back to its home base in Norfolk, Virginia.

And when was the last time you went to a student music performance, an arts opening, or a dance company showcase? At LC, peer support for the arts and music students is considerably dwin- dling as compared with the growing spirited support for the athletics. I want to tell you before anything else that I’m a violinist in the school orches- tra and a varsity fi eld hockey player in the fall. And that means I’m fair. By no means am I telling you to quit going to the games and instead to go watch a con- cert. Instead, I’m asking you for a heck lot more: consider going to both. Remember when our girls volleyball team played in the New England Final this past fall? Remember the Nothing but Nets charity game held by the boys varsity soccer team, the Play for the Cure held by the fi eld-hockey team? Th e school-wide peer support for these events was incredible, inspiring, and well-deserved. The Bay Area native grew up skating and surfing without any idea that an actual career in this industry would be the result. That changed in 1999, when at 14 years old he witnessed his first X Games at Pier 32 in San Francisco. As a college intern at ESPN Radio, Graham was asked to cover the X Games in 2006 on behalf of the station. This content would eventually serve as the basis for Late Night Action, ESPN's first action sports radio show, hosted by Graham. Along the way, he became the host of X Games digital content, including Inside X and the Athlete Chat Series. Graham was then hand-picked by Rob Dyrdek to become the new play-by-play voice of Street League Skateboarding on ESPN2, before tackling the same duties for X Games in 2013, working alongside Tony Hawk calling Men’s and Women’s Skateboard Street. In 2014, Graham served as X Games co-host in Aspen and Austin, and remains a part of the telecast team for both events as well as the World of X Games series on ABC. Brandon received a degree in journalism from California Lutheran University in 2008. He resides in Austin with his wife, Nadia.
