MISSOULA—

THE GAME: The University of Montana will travel to Boise, ID to play the Boise State Broncos in 21,500-seat Bronco Stadium (artificial surface). Game time Saturday, Oct. 4, 1980 is at 7:30 p.m. (MDT).

LAST WEEK: The Grizzlies dropped their opener, losing to the University of , 42-0. The Broncos played Montana State, narrowly losing, 18-17.

NOTES ON THE GAME: It was the first time the Grizzlies have been shut out twice in one season since 1968, when they were blanked by South Dakota (21-0) and Northern Arizona (18-0). The leading offensive player for UM was freshman quarterback Marty Mornhinweg, who passed for 81 yards (8 of 15).

Boise overcame a 10-0 halftime deficit, only to lose the game in the final minute of play on a two-point conversion by the MSU QB. Bronco kicker Kenrick Camerud narrowly missed a 52-yard field goal attempt with time running out on the clock.

THE SERIES: The Broncos lead the series 6 to 3. Oddly enough, all three Grizzly wins were in Boise. BSU defeated UM 37-35 last season, while the Grizzlies won 15-7 in Boise the season before. BSU won the first meeting 47-24 in 1971. The scores:

LAST YEAR: The Grizzlies outscored the Broncos 14-9 in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough. The score was tied 14-all at halftime. Rocky Klever led all rushers with 137 yards for two . He also had two catches for 79 yards and a TD. He is doubtful in this year's 10th meeting of the schools.

‘BSU QB Joe Aliotti accounted for 381 yards, passing for 330, with the strong BSU offense gaining a lofty 618 total yards.

Grizzly linebacker Kent Clausen had 18 tackles in the loss.

DONOVAN ON BSU: "As the team with the best Big Sky record last season Boise State has to be considered as one of the conference's top teams. Coming off our last two games, we know we really have our hands full. The coaches and players know what they have to do, and that's up to them and no one else. Boise State is a talent­ laden team, with great running backs, and a quarterback that runs the team like good quarterbacks do."

BRONCOS TO WATCH: Running back , the most prolific runner in Big Sky history (3,767 career yards), leads the Broncos in 1980 with 352 yards on 56 carries (6.3 yards per carry) and 4 TDs. Teammate Terry Zahner has 212 yards on 51 attempts (4.2) and 3 TDs. Minter ranks second in the conference, averaging 88 yards a game rushing.

QB Aliotti has completed 43 of 74 passes for 471 yards and 1 TD. His top receiver is Skip Bedard (12 for 165).

Defensively, lineman has 38 tackles and four sacks; linebacker Dan Williams has 61 tackles and defensive back has 38 stops.

TOP GRIZZLIES: Klever, who may or may not play Saturday, leads UM in rushing with 95 yards in two games. He has scored 2 TDs and passed for 2 more. Fullback Mike Hagen has rushed for 2 TDs and gained 89 yards.

Grizzly QB Bart Andrus is 29 of 51 passing for 324 yards. His top receiver is Hagen (10 for 98).

Top defensive players for UM are lineman Arnie Rigoni (18 tackles); linebacker Kent Clausen (18 stops) and Mickey Sutton (20 tackles) and an .

NATIONAL RANKINGS: Andrus is 6th nationally in punting, averaging 40.3. BSU's Tom Spadafore is 3rd (43.3). Boise punt returner Rick Woods is 5th (11.5).

TRAVEL PLANS: Auxiliary personnel from UM will leave via bus Friday Oct. 3 at 8:30 a.m. and arrive in Boise at 4:30 p.m. The team and coaches will leave Missoula at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, and arrive at noon. The team will leave at 11 p.m. after the game and arrive back in Missoula at approximately midnight.
