Lid, Legislative Assistant COUNCIL FILE NO. 10-1076: SURVEY FINDINGS FROM SCHOOL-PARKS SHARED USE STUDY The Department of Recreation and Parks (Depaliment) began its shared use relationship with Los Angeles Unified School District (LA US D) in 1967 with an agreement for the construction and operation of a pool at Venice High SchooL The pool was subsequently built by the City on LAUSD property. The Department cunently has 36 formal agreements with LAUSD through Joint Use Agreements (JUA) and License Agreements. An additional 199 school or park sites have a shared use relationship through a permit or an informal reciprocal agreement. Use fees have historically not been collected from or paid to LAUSD under these arrangements_ However, recent discussions with LAUSD have indicated that this may change in the future, as LA USD is considering a policy change that would impose use fees on the Department for use of non JUA related school sites. , Besides LAUSD schools, the Depmtment also has working relationships with private schools and independent · chmter schools not under LAUSD.

  • Outdoor Track and Field DIVISION I
DIVISION I 103 Outdoor Track and Field DIVISION I 2001 Championships OUTDOOR TRACK Highlights Volunteers Are Victorious: Tennessee used a strong performance from its sprinters to edge TCU by a point May 30-June 2 at Oregon. The Volunteers earned their third title with 50 points, as the championship-clinching point was scored by the 1,600-meter relay team in the final event of the meet. Knowing it only had to finish the event to secure the point to break the tie with TCU, Tennessee’s unit passed the baton careful- ly and placed eighth. Justin Gatlin played the key role in getting Tennessee into position to win by capturing the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Gatlin was the meet’s only individual double winner. Sean Lambert supported Gatlin’s effort by finishing fourth in the 100. His position was another important factor in Tennessee’s victory, as he placed just ahead of a pair of TCU competitors. Gatlin and Lambert composed half of the Volunteers’ 400-meter relay team that was second. TCU was led by Darvis Patton, who was third in the 200, fourth in the long jump and sixth in the 100. He also was a member of the Horned Frogs’ victorious 400-meter relay team. TEAM STANDINGS 1. Tennessee ..................... 50 Colorado St. ................. 10 Missouri........................ 4 2. HISTORY/TRADITION HEAD COACHING HISTORY Since 1919, the UCLA men’s track team has been successfully led by six men - Harry Trotter, Elvin C. “Ducky” Drake, Jim Bush, Bob Larsen, Art Venegas and now, Mike Maynard. Behind these men, the Bruins have won eight National Championships, ranging from 1956 to 1988. Harry “Cap” Trotter - 1919 to 1946 Trotter started coaching the track team in 1919, the year UCLA was founded, and was called upon to coach the football team from 1920-1922. During his tenure as head track coach, Trotter produced numerous prominent track and field athletes. The pride of his coaching career were sprinter Jimmy LuValle and his successor, Elvin “Ducky” Drake. Elvin C. “Ducky” Drake - 1946 to 1964 In 19 seasons under Elvin “Ducky” Drake, UCLA had a dual meet record of 107-48-0 (.690) and won one NCAA Championship and one Pac-10 title. Drake was a charter member into the UCLA Hall of Fame in 1984 and was inducted inducted into the USA Track & Field Track & Field Hall of Fame in December of 2007. In 1973, the Bruin track and field complex was officially named “Drake Stadium” in honor of the UCLA coaching legend who had been associated with UCLA as a student-athlete, coach and athletic trainer for over 60 years. Some of Drake’s star athletes include Rafer Johnson, C.K. Yang, George Stanich, Craig Dixon and George Brown. Jim Bush - 1965 to 1984 Bush had incredible success during his 20 years as head coach, as UCLA won five NCAA Championships, seven Conference Championships and seven national dual meet titles under his guidance.

  • Outdoor Track and Field DIVISION I Men’S
Outdoor Track and Field DIVISION I MEN’S Highlights Aggies emerge from men’s track pack for first crown: The term “4x1” nearly took on new meaning at the Division I Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as the final event offered the possibility that four teams could tie for the team title. Texas A&M made the most of the opportunity and won its first national championship in the sport June 13 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The term “4x1” normally refers to the 400-meter relay, but the title actually was decided in the meet-ending 1,600-meter relay, where the Aggies finally caught Oregon and held off two other rivals to spoil those teams’ title hopes. The win clinched a rare double victory since Texas A&M had captured the women’s track and field title moments earlier. “We’re the national champions,” said Justin Oliver, who anchored the Aggies to a second-place finish in the 1,600-meter relay to lock up the title. “Texas A&M, no one else. That’s all I could say when I finished the race. We did it! We did it!” Oliver is a member of coach Pat Henry’s first graduating class, which brought the former LSU coach – who led the Tigers to three men’s and 12 women’s national track and field titles – his first crowns in five seasons at Texas A&M. “We’re extremely pleased. My staff worked very hard, and this is a very gratifying pair of championships for this team,” Henry said.
