In this document, the abbreviation N/A is used. N/A means Not Applicable. About Pointsec for Symbian OS Pointsec for Symbian OS provides users of PDAs powered by the Symbian operating systems with automatic, real-time encryption of data for convenient and enforceable handheld security for enterprises on the move. New in this Release As this is a maintenance release, there are no new features. Fixed Issues in this Release The following have been fixed in this release: ID Short Description Description 6661 Voicemail blocked SMS SMSs from the user’s voicemail were not messages received after Pointsec locked the device, and other SMSs were blocked after a voicemail SMS was received. 6619 Calendar/clock alarm did The calendar alarm did not work when the not function properly headset was connected. 6501 The clock alarm did not work when the device was locked. 6181 Bluetooth connection Connection to a headset or other Bluetooth could not be established device could not be established from the device. Supported Devices The following devices are supported in this release: Device Recommended OS version Nokia 9500 Firmware 4.44 (1) and later Nokia 9300 Firmware 5.22 (1) and later Nokia 9300i Firmware 5.48 (0) and later 2 Pointsec for Symbian OS (9500 Communicator/9300 Smartphone) 2.1.10 June 2007 Release Notes - Confidential (9500 Communicator/9300 Smartphone) Tested 3rd-party Software The following 3rd-party products have been satisfactorily tested with Pointsec for Symbian OS 2.1.10: F- Secure Mobile Security 3.0 Intellisync Mobile Suite 7.x Sybase iAnywhere OneBridge 5.5 with client software 5.5.2007.0329 SEVEN Always-On Mail 5.0.20 Symantec Client Security 4.x A note to our customers about untested software We do not recommend the installation of untested software as this may compromise Pointsec Mobile’s functionality or produce unexpected behavior in the device. The following are examples of problems that can arise with untested software: • The software may be denied access to encrypted files. • Pointsec Mobile must close most applications when locking, and untested software may not handle restart properly. • The software may create files that unintentionally become encrypted. A common example is .txt files used for logging. Unintentionally encrypted files may prevent the software from working properly, but can be worked around by placing the folder containing such files on the exclusion list. Synchronization software. General Recommendations We strongly recommend that you always follow the documented procedures for installing, upgrading and removing Pointsec for Symbian OS. Moreover: Consider Usability • Before deploying to large numbers of users, we recommend that you test each new profile for usability. While Pointsec for Symbian OS is a powerful, flexible security tool, it does not warn if security settings are likely to make the device difficult to use. If you need help reaching the optimum balance between security and user experience for your organization, please contact your Pointsec representative. Allow Pointsec to complete operations • When installing, upgrading or uninstalling Pointsec for Symbian OS, do not manually switch the device off until the operation is complete. Unlock Pointsec before installation and removal activities • Make sure that Pointsec is unlocked before initiating installation or removal of other applications on a Pointsec-protected device. Be aware that push e-mail solution behavior can vary • Push e-mail synchronization behavior depends upon which push email solution is used and may also depend on how you configure the setting Allow content creation when locked. For information on this setting, see the section Encryption Policy in the chapter Overview of Pointsec for Symbian OS Settings in the Pointsec for Symbian OS (9500 Communicator/9300 Smartphone) Administrator’s Guide. For additional information on push e-mail behavior, see the FYI section of this document. You can also contact your Pointsec representative for information on how your e-mail system interoperates with Pointsec for Symbian OS. Exercise caution when defining encryption lists • When defining encryption inclusion lists, Do not add C:\ to the list. If you do, you risk encrypting programs and utilities so that they do not function correctly. Ensure that Pointsec does not encrypt files or folders needed by any unsupported applications you may have chosen to use. Do not rename or move files used by Pointsec for Symbian OS • Doing so may cause Pointsec for Symbian OS not to work. Comply with the following memory card tips • Do not configure the setting Require encrypted memory cards to Yes in the install settings if users will need to run applications from their memory cards. • Do not attempt to access memory cards when installing, upgrading or removing Pointsec for Symbian OS on a device. • If a memory card becomes unavailable: remove and reinsert the card restart the device • Always back up data on devices and memory cards before installing, upgrading or removing Pointsec for Symbian OS. Avoid anti-virus scanning in the following situations • Do not run anti-virus scans when Pointsec for Symbian OS is locked. at the same time as encrypting/decrypting cards. when creating a back-up. (Automatic scans should be disabled.) About Wireless Communication You should be aware that on a device that has wireless communication activated, it is possible for unauthorized persons to use the wireless communication to remove files from the device.
