Joseph Hermann is Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee, where he is responsible for an active and diverse program consisting of the University Marching Band, Symphony Band, Concert Band, Pep Band, and the Golden Eagle Brass. Before his appointment at Tennessee Tech in 1989, Hermann was the Associate Director of Bands and the Director of the Pride of Arizona Marching Band at the , an Assistant Director of Bands at Indiana University and Director of Bands at East Tennessee State University where he also served as the Associate Conductor of the Johnson City (TN) Symphony Orchestra. Secondary school teaching includes directing the Dowling High School Band, West Des Moines, , and supervision of the Des Moines Catholic Instrumental Music Program. Under his leadership, the school music program grew to unprecedented enrollment. In addition, he served briefly as the Educational Director for Bands of America and McCormick’s Enterprises, a music corporation, in , Illinois. Hermann is sought after as a conductor, adjudicator, and speaker and has presented clinics, workshops, and has conducted in over thirty states, in Canada, and throughout Japan. His symphonic bands have been featured ensembles at state, regional and national conventions; his interpretations have been broadcast on National Public Radio, and recordings of his ensembles have been issued as reference for music educators nationwide through music publishers and on the Mark Custom label. He is a proponent of new music for the winds, has premiered numerous works for the band and remains an active participant in commissioning projects. Hermann is a member of CBDNA, MENC, NBA, the Tennessee Bandmasters Association, has served as the editor for the New Music Reviews for the Tennessee Musician, and is a past board member of the Tennessee Music Educators Association. In 1996, Hermann was elected to the prestigious American Bandmasters Association and served as a member of its Board of Directors. In 2009-10, Hermann served as the President of the ABA and has served as the Chair of its Board of Directors. He is a member of Phi Beta Mu, a past President of the PAC-10 Band Directors Association, a past Province Governor for Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and holds honorary memberships in and Tau Beta Sigma. He is an Associate Member of ASBDA and currently serves as Associate Chair. He is the recipient of the KKѰ Distinguished Service to Music Medal in Conducting and the TBΣ Paula Crider Outstanding Band Director awards. Joseph Hermann is affiliated as an Artist/Conductor/Clinician with Jupiter Band Instruments, Inc., manufacturers of band and orchestra instruments located in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. He has been married to his wife, Kay, for 43 years, and they have two daughters and three grandchildren. Dr. Rebecca Phillips (Associate Professor) is the Director of Athletic Bands and Associate Director of Bands at the University of South Carolina where she is responsible for directing the Symphonic Winds, “The Mighty Sound of the Southeast” Carolina Marching Band, “Concocktion” Basketball and Volleyball Pep Bands, teaching undergraduate instrumental conducting, and directing the Carolina Summer Drum Major Clinic. Under Dr. Phillips' direction, the USC Symphonic Winds was a featured ensemble at the 2012 College Band Director’s National Association Southern Division Conference (CBDNA), the 2010 Society of Composers International Conference, and the 2008 North American Saxophone Alliance International Convention. Dr. Phillips conducted the world premiere of John Fitz Rogers’ Narragansett as a guest of the USC Wind Ensemble at the 2013 CBDNA National Convention. Previously, she was a guest conductor of the USC Wind Ensemble on their 2012 national tour of China with performances in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shaoxing, and Ningbo. In addition, she conducted the consortium premiere of John Mackey’s Harvest: Concerto for Trombone and Wind Ensemble in 2011. In 2011, Dr. Phillips was asked to take the over the role of Director of Athletic Bands at the University of South Carolina. She was tasked with developing and implementing a new vision of growth, spirit, and pride for the Carolina Band. Under her leadership, The “Mighty Sound of the Southeast” has grown from 248 members to 345 in three seasons, and the band has been hailed as the “best contribution to the Gamecock game day atmosphere.” In addition to performing at all home and away games during the regular season, the Carolina Band performs for post-season conference championship and bowl games, including the 2012 Outback Bowl and the 2011 Capitol One Bowl. Dr. Phillips and the Carolina Band released a new Compact Disc in August of 2013, highlighting music from the 2012 season. A native of Washington, D.C., Dr. Phillips earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from The Florida State University, Master of Music degrees in conducting and trombone performance from the University of South Florida, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in conducting at Louisiana State University. She served as a secondary school band director for seven years in Florida, including Director of Bands at Howard W. Blake Performing Arts High School in Tampa, Florida where she developed an award-winning concert band program. Dr. Phillips holds memberships in the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE), the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), and the National Band Association (NBA).

Dr. Gary Schallert is an Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Western Kentucky University. Dr. Schallert's responsibilities at WKU include conducting the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in conducting and music education, and supervision of student teachers. Dr. Schallert earned his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music degrees from New Mexico State University, and Doctor of Arts degree in Wind Conducting from the University of Northern Colorado. Prior to this appointment at WKU, Dr. Schallert served as Associate Professor of Music and Wind Ensemble Conductor at Belmont University and as Associate Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Missouri and the . Dr. Schallert has also taught at several fine high schools including Manzano High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Schallert maintains an active schedule as guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator throughout the United States. He has conducted touring ensembles in Europe, Costa Rica, and Australia, including a performance with the University of Missouri Wind Ensemble at the famed Sydney Opera House. His professional affiliations include the College Band Director's National Association, National Association for Music Education, National Band Association, Kentucky Music Educators Association, and the KMEA Third District Band Directors Association. He is member of Phi Beta Mu, Phi Mu Alpha, and is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. He and his wife, Amy, reside in Bowling Green and have four sons; Ryan, Casey, Evan and Trevor.

Mary Land is Director of Bands and Music Education at Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia. Prior to her position at Young Harris, Mrs. Land was Director of Bands at Pickens County Middle School in Jasper, Georgia for 29 years. Mary is currently a candidate for the Educational Doctorate in Music Education from the University of Georgia. Mrs. Land, a native of North Augusta, South Carolina, received her Bachelors of Music Education degree from the University of Georgia and her Masters of Music Education degree from Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois. She has served the Georgia Music Educators Association in various state and local offices and is currently the immediate past president of the Georgia Music Educators Association. She continues to make numerous appearances as adjudicator, conductor, and clinician throughout the United States. Her professional affiliations include: GMEA, MENC, IAJE, PAGE, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Professional Teacher Association. Mrs. Land is a member of the Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity. Mrs. Land is a member of the National Band Association and has served as a Middle School representative on the NBA executive board of directors. Mary Land is also on the faculty of the prestigious Interlochen Arts Camp as the conductor of the Intermediate Division Wind Symphony.

Many professional awards and recognitions have been awarded Mrs. Land during her career. She was featured in the April 2007 issue of the Instrumentalist magazine discussing her teaching techniques and her band program at Pickens County Middle School. She has been presented the National Band Association Citation of Excellence on ten separate occasions and has been presented the Women Band Directors International Scroll of Excellence four times. Mrs. Land was awarded the GMEA Music Educator of the Year Award for 2002. Mrs. Land was presented with the John Philip Sousa Foundation Legion of Honor Award at the 2002 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic for her contributions to music education. Mary Land was selected by the national publication School Band and Orchestra in their December 2003 issue as one of “50 Directors Who make a Difference”. Mary Land’s band program was the recipient of Georgia Senate Resolution 212 commending the success of the Pickens County Middle School Band Program. Mrs. Land and the Pickens County Middle School Band were the 2003 recipient of the Magna Cum Laude Award, a prestigious International Award for Middle School Bands.

Mary is married to Rick Land, who is also a music educator. They have two sons who are active in college music programs.
