    Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) and Bahrain Center Cultural Society (BCCS) For consideration at the 27th session of the UN working group in April-May 2017 22 September 2016 1. ADHRB is a non-profit organization that fosters awareness of and support for democracy and human rights in Bahrain and the Middle East. 2. ADHRB’s reporting is based primarily on its United Nations (UN) complaint program, by which it works directly with victims of human rights violations, their family members or their lawyers on the ground in the region to document evidence of abuses and submit this evidence to the UN Special Procedures. ADHRB has repeatedly requested permission to formally visit Bahrain in order to consult with government officials, national human rights mechanisms, and our independent civil society partners on the ground, regarding issues relating to the UPR process, but has been so far denied access. As yet, the Government of Bahrain has declined to cooperate with ADHRB on any level. 3. BCCS is Bahraini cultural center and advocacy organization based in Berlin, Germany. 4. ADHRB and BCCS welcome the opportunity to contribute to the third cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Bahrain. This submission focuses on Bahrain’s compliance with its second-cycle recommendations to take measures to meet the aspirations of victims of discrimination and protect ethnic and religious groups from abuse.     DIRECTORATE-GENERAL FOR EXTERNAL POLICIES POLICY DEPARTMENT POLICY BRIEFING Down to the wire in Bahrain: Last chance for real political reform Abstract After months of rising tension and despair in Bahrain, a slight glimmer of hope has appeared: on 7 December, Crown Prince Salman called for dialogue with the country’s opposition to break the political deadlock. His speech was met positively by the centre- left Wa’ad party and al-Wefaq, the largest party representing the country’s Shia population. Up until now, the country's reform process had reached a stalemate. The national dialogue had been deferred, despite the recommendations of the Independent Inquiry Commission of November 2011, endorsed by King Hamad, the United Nations, the European Union and the United States. The country's political scene has become increasingly polarised, and the positions of hardliners within the regime and the opposition are increasingly entrenched. The country, its economy and political stability would all benefit from a salutary dose of dialogue and moderation to overcome the vicious circle of violence and provocation. The EU can contribute to this by conducting a dialogue with the Bahraini authorities and civil society. The Union should support the democratic opposition and moderate factions within the regime: the signatories of the October 2011 Manama Document and Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad. Messaoudi4,6 & Moiz Bakhiet5,6 This paper evaluates the forensic utility of 30 insertion‑deletion polymorphism (indel) markers in a sample from the Bahraini population using the Qiagen Investigator DIPplex Kit. Allele frequencies and forensic stats of the 30 indels were investigated in 293 unrelated individuals from diferent governorates of the Kingdom of Bahrain. None of the markers showed signifcant deviation from Hardy Weinberg equilibrium except for HLD88 locus and no linkage disequilibrium were detected between all possible pair of the indel loci, assuming that these markers are independent and their allele frequencies can be used to calculate the match probabilities in the Bahraini population. The high power of discrimination (CPD = 0.9999999999998110) and the low combined match probability (CPM = 1.89 × ­10−13) indicate that these markers are informative and can be successfully used for human identifcation in terms of forensics and paternity. Genetic distances and relatedness were displayed through multidimensional plotting and phylogenetic tree using various populations in the region. Our study showed that the Bahraini population was clustered with neighboring countries such as Kuwait and Emirates which indicates that these closely geographical regions share similar allele frequencies and are more genetically related than other reference population studied. Insertion and deletion polymorphism which is known as (indel), is a type of genetic variation in which a precise nucleotide sequence is present (insertion) or absent (deletion).

It also shows the importance of the site, the demography of the region, the distribution of population, and the most important cities in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Firstly, the study deals with the geographical location of the Kingdom of Bahrain; secondly, it shows the importance of the site with respect to its geographical location; and thirdly, analyzes the most important geographical features, shapes and topography. The study also examines the prevailing climate and the most important natural resources found there. The study also referred to the population census in it, the census of the indigenous population the proportion of foreigners and the percentage of Sunnis and Shiites in Bahrain. At the end of the study, the most important cities in the Kingdom of Bahrain were also summarized. The study, as a whole, talks about the most important historical features of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
