Notes

The writing credit for track 1, View To A Kill, is given as 'J. Downes'. This is incorrect, one of a number of errors and spelling mistakes on this release. All songs were re-recorded with new arrangements.

Comments about The Bond Collection - The 30th Anniversary - Shirley Bassey

Owomed

The Bond Collection was one of many releases in 1992 to cash-in / celebrate the 30th anniversary of the start of the official series of films with Dr. No (1962). These releases were of varying quality and interest, but the chance to hear Shirley Bassey's first take on some legendary 007 theme songs was highly anticipated. The album contains 12 tracks, including new recordings of Shirley's three original Bond themes (Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker), alongside her take on nine more, from 1963's From Russia With Love to Duran Duran's A View To A Kill (1985). Unfortunately, this album is a shambles. Whilst Shirley's voice is in fine form the production and 'orchestration' is well below par. The synthesized backing tracks give the feel of a homemade recording and the sound is tinny and lo-fi. Everything about this album feels amateur, even down to the liner notes and credits which contain a number of errors and spelling mistakes. From a fan's point-of-view this is a missed opportunity and it's unlikely that Shirley will attempt another collection of Bond themes - these remain her only Bond theme recordings to date (except versions of her own originals and her recording of You Only Live Twice for her 2008 album ). Owing to the poor quality of the production Shirley Bassey successfully sued the record label and this album was deleted almost as soon as it came out. It remains an intriguing addition to Shirley Bassey's 50+ year output, but still a major disappointment. Related Music albums to The Bond Collection - The 30th Anniversary by Shirley Bassey
