The introduction provides an overview and direction to council staff for assessing, planning, and activating troops. Parts 2 and 3 speak to council staff and volunteers as they compose their troops and work with them to define the Trailblazer experience. -

Ceremonies - Time to Celebrate Girl Scouting Ceremonies mark special Girl Scout events throughout the year. They can celebrate major transitions, such as bridging to another level or getting your Girl Scout pin, commemorate your accomplishment when you earn awards, or simply make the beginning or end of your group's meeting special. You can also plan a ceremony around a theme, such as friendship or nature, which you wish to explore in thought, words or song. Whatever its purpose, every Girl Scout ceremony enables girls to share in a special part of Girl Scout history and create their own special memories. TO MAKE GOOD CANADIANS: GIRL GUIDING IN INDIAN RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS A Thesis Submitted to the Committee on Graduate Studies in Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences TRENT UNIVERSITY Peterborough, Ontario, Canada © Copyright by Mary Jane McCallum 2001 Canadian Studies and Native Studies M.A. Program May2002 ABSTRACT To Make Good Canadians: Girl Guiding in Indian Residential Schools Mary Jane McCallum Between 1910 and 1970, the Guide movement became active and, indeed, prolific in Indian residential, day, and hostel schools, sanatoriums, reserves and Northern communities throughout Canada. In these contexts, Guiding embraced not only twentieth century youth citizenship training schemes, but also the colonial project of making First Nations and Inuit people good citizens. But ironically, while the Guide programme endeavoured to produce moral, disciplined and patriotic girls who would be prepared to undertake home and civic responsibilities as dutiful mothers and wives, it also encouraged girls to study and imitate 'wild' Indians. This thesis will explore the ways in which Girl Guides prepared girls for citizenship, arguing that the Indian, who signified to Guides authentic adventure, primitive skills and civic duty, was a model for their training. 'Playing Indian' enabled Guides to access these 'authentic' Indian virtues. It also enabled them to deny their roles as proponents of colonialism. First Four Brownie Meetings
Girl Scout Brownie Sample Meetings (Created by Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois) OBJECTIVE The goal of your first four meetings is to encourage the girls and adults to get to know each other and to learn to function as a troop. Girls will be introduced to the three Brownie Journeys—Brownie Quest, Wonders of Water, and A World of Girls. Girls will also prepare for their investiture and rededication ceremony. INTRODUCTION What follows are basic outlines for your first four Girl Scout Brownie meetings. They are designed to help you get started, and can be changed or modified to fit the needs and interests of the girls. In preparation for the girls’ investiture and rededication ceremony, the su ggested activities relate to the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Note: A few of the beginning activities are repeats of activities found in the Daisy Sample Meetings document. This is because Brownies are not much older than Daisies, and many of them may not have participated as Girl Scout Daisies. If some girls have already completed these activities, invite the girls to help lead the activities. WORLD THINKING DAY 2017 _ PAX LODGE _ CREATED BY EM MEADES RULES AND INFORMATION To start the game, shuffle and deal all the cards face down. Each player holds their cards so that they can see the top card only. The player to the dealer’s left starts by reading out a category from the top card (e.g. Height, value 5) The other players then read out the same category from their cards. The one with the best or highest value wins, and that player collects all the top cards, including their own, and moves them to the bottom of their pile. It is then their turn again to choose a category from the next card. If two or more cards share the top value or data is not available for that particular subject then all the cards are placed in the middle and the same player chooses again from the next card. The winner of the hand takes the cards in the middle as well. The person with all the cards at the end is the winner. INTRODUCTION On behalf of the Nominations Committee I am delighted to present the candidates for the Western Hemisphere Regional Committee 2019-2022. As well as the recommendation from their Member Organisation (MO), all candidates who are standing were asked to provide a professional reference, and were interviewed by the Nominations Committee in order to know them better and prepare this summary. For the first time, all candidates were asked to submit a short video of themselves as part of their nomination. These videos will be available to Member Organisations to view on the Regional Conference page of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) website. Where candidates currently hold a significant position in their Member Organisation, they have been asked to relinquish this role within six months, if elected. This is partly to ensure no conflict of interest, and partly to ensure that they are able to devote sufficient time to the work of the Committee. As well as the personal statement the candidates have provided examples of how they believe they have demonstrated some of the key skills needed for a member of the Regional Committee. These candidates are talented women, with other skills not listed here due to limited space. -
