( 19 ) In 1900, for every man, woman, and child listed by the census, the glass container industry shipped 15 new glass containers. This year these shipments will amount to an estimated 95 glass con tainers per person, an increase of more than 500 percent! The low cost of these efficient, attractive containers is another of the many examples of the effective~ess of our American econ omic system. As alert, practical-minded homemakers realized the advantages and convenience of glass pac kages, and as rhe de mand for them increased, American mass production methods made them widely availab le and inexpensive.
