Press Release: Jivamukti Yoga Expands Renowned Yoga Training APRIL 1, 2021 JIVAMUKTI YOGA IS A FORCE FOR GOOD – AND HERE TO STAY Beloved Yoga Training Expands Online to Create Unprecedented Access to Ancient Healing Arts "The future looks BRIGHT with Jivamukti Yoga" YOGA THROUGH TIME AND SPACE The future looks bright with Jivamukti Yoga. The internationally renowned method started 2020 with new online beginnings… after closing the flagship studio in Union Square New York, just before the pandemic stopped the world in its tracks. The new Jivamukti Yoga Digital platform was born – bringing the offerings into the modern age and accessible from any corner of the world. Nearly 130 Jivamukti Teachers from more than 30 countries graduated, the largest class in Jivamukti’s celebrated history. About 25 students participated in the in-person program in Italy and the remaining 90 students took part in the very first full online 300hr Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training. Another group of 40 will graduate in April 2021. Jivamukti once again set the gold standard for Yoga teacher training, this time in the digital space. FROM INDIA, WITH LOVE In a landscape dominated by $90 yoga pants, confusing teachings, and MLM mavens in bikinis using yoga poses to sell fitness shakes, what does Yoga really mean? Perhaps part of the potency of Jivamukti is the authentic sources from which it came. Founders Sharon Gannon and David Life went to India in 1984 and developed the method with the blessings of their teachers and Yoga gurus, forming what is known as the path to enlightenment through compassion for all beings. It is a practice which not only includes athletic asana practices with dynamic music akin to dance sets, but also powerful spiritual teachings, veganism and sustainable lifestyle, mantra chanting, meditation, breathwork, and devotion to God. There’s no appropriation to be found, just authentic and joyful practice to be shared in this world full of darkness. You might even already practice Jivamukti Yoga: many Jivamukti teachers are popular within fitness realms and are to be found on mainstream platforms such as The Mirror and Yoga Glo. CHARTING THE WAY FOR CHANGE 2020 was billed as the year of clear vision before anyone knew what that really meant. Many issues came to light as being in desperate need of loving awareness. Jivamukti CEO Hari Mulukutla identified 5 key areas that the team has fleshed out into the boldly aspirational Charter for Change. The 5 tenets of Charter for Change are Racial Justice, Gender Equality, Income Equity, Animal Rights Activism, Environmental Consciousness. Starting with their Summer 2021 300hr Teacher Training scheduled at Menla in Upstate New York, Jivamukti Yoga is pleased to have integrated all of these aspects into two scholarships which will be available for every program moving forward in addition to the generous financial aid Jivamukti gives to qualifying students every year. The Charter for Change Full Online Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training Scholarship is awarded to Danette Joy Walker Fernandez of Los Angeles, California, and the Charter for Change Residential Scholarship and Mutual Aid Award recipient is Sevgi Gençosman, of Cyprus. EMPOWERING UNIQUE, BRIGHT STARS Danette started her Jivamukti journey more than 20 years ago, in the days even before the Union Square studio, a perhaps poignant reminder that the studio is beyond any four walls. She wrote in her application for financial aide, “When I think of yoga, I think of Jivamukti Yoga and the diverse community of world wide, life long dedicated spiritual beings, Now more than ever, I feel and .see a need where I can truly be of service, especially with my unique experience. Where I can create a space where all feel welcome, especially women of color and those who have had a cancer experience. I am following my inner wisdom and divine inspiration and little blessings from the universe in an effort to find my voice, find my place in this world of yoga that I love so much.” Danette will receive a fully funded scholarship for the online Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training commencing July 3, 2021. Sevgi is a Veterinary PHD student living in Cyprus, who has dedicated her life to serving animals. She wrote in her application essay, “Following [my first] Jivamukti workshop, I realized not only my body but also my soul was in a process of transformation. There was a magical sense within and around me. Things were brighter, clearer, and more dynamic.” During a leave in her busy academic schedule, she will travel to the United States for the intensive residential Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training. Jivamukti will fund a portion of her expenses through scholarship and has created a new mutual aide channel for our worldwide community, where 100% of donations will go directly to her and once fully funded, future award recipient’s JYTT expenses. JOIN OUR GLOBAL FORCE FOR GOOD How to get a taste of Jivamukti Yoga? Get involved in a number of ways: Give a little (or a lot!) to Sevgi’s C4C Mutual Aide campaign. • Yoga and Pilates: What’S the Difference? by Sherri R
Yoga and Pilates: What’s the difference? By Sherri R. Betz, PT, GCS, PMA®-CPT Have you ever wondered… “What are the differences between Yoga and Pilates?” Someone jokingly said, “The difference between Pilates and Yoga is that in Yoga you close your eyes and think about god and in Pilates you keep your eyes open and think about your abs!” One guru said the purpose of Yoga is to become more flexible so that you could sit comfortably to meditate. Yoga certainly is more than that. I write this in trepidation of offending the beautiful Yoga and Pilates practitioners around the world. I hope to distill some of the information about Yoga and Pilates looking at some of the differences and similarities between them to help practitioners understand these popular forms of movement. My yoga practice began in Louisiana (when no one did yoga there!) at about the age of 15. At the local library, I happened to pick up The Sivananda Companion to Yoga and started trying out some of the poses and breathing. Actually, I skipped the breathing and avoided it for many years until I did my Pilates training and was forced to learn to breathe! Now I am devoted to my Ashtanga/Vinyasa Yoga practice and my Pilates work to keep my body in shape and to add a spiritual component to my life. It has been very interesting to compare a movement practice that has been around for 2000 years with one that has been around for only about 80 years. Yoga: Navasana (Boat Pose) Pilates: Teaser Common Forms of Yoga Practice in the United States: Yoga was brought to us by Hindus practicing in India.

For Immediate Release Contact: Chrissa Pullicino October 29, 2007 Phone: 201.951.8767 Omega Institute to Host Being Yoga Conference in Florida More than 35 Top, National Yoga Instructors to Teach Participants How to “Live Your Yoga” RHINEBECK, NY – In what might be characterized as a surprise to some, yoga, which in Sanskrit means “union,” is considered one of the “fastest growing trends in the United States,” according to Google Trends, a search engine that compares the world’s interest in given topics by analyzing their popularity online, in the news, and geographically. That development is, according to an Omega spokesperson, “partially the result of the work we’ve been doing at Omega Institute for 30 years.” It’s also one of the reasons Omega is hosting a “Being Yoga” Conference in Florida this November, according to Carla Goldstein, Omega’s Director of External Affairs. The conference will be held from November 2-5, 2007, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. “Here at Omega we’ve known for many years what others are discovering every day: that yoga holds tremendous potential for strengthening and healing us as individuals and society,” said Ms. Goldstein. “As more people practice yoga we grow the possibility to create a society with more compassion and less violence.” Guests of the conference, which is being held at the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the study and practice of yoga in its many forms and to learn what it means to live yoga on and off the mat. While yoga is now available in many communities, education may be limited to the style and approach of a particular teacher, making it challenging for students to get comprehensive exposure to the richness of the tradition.

  • Focus of the Month 2.14
Bobbi Misiti 2201 Market Street Camp HIll, PA 17011 717.443.1119 befityoga.com TOPIC OF THE MONTH February 2014 FROM NOW FORWARD . AND SOME NOTES FROM MAUI Although I am not a “big fan” of the sutras, I do like to study them. Just because something was written as an “ancient text” does not always mean it has merritt . and in just the same way -- because some study proves some scientific “fact”, does not mean it is truth. For example all those years we thought saturated fat was bad for us . it is not! Studies were mis-read, mis-leading, politically adjusted, and “interpretations” seem to benefit some benefactor more than mankind. However I like this little blip from David Life on the very first sutra, in my simple words it basically says: From now on, just allow the yoga to arise naturally in you :) Excerpts from David Life's January 2014 focus of the month -- Jivamukti Yoga Atha yoga-anushasanam (Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra 1:1) Now this is yoga as I have perceived it in the natural world. Atha means “now.” But it’s more than just “now”; it means now in terms of “hereafer,” or “going forward.” The importance of that nuance is that it implies that whatever has been happening will now, hereafer, be different. The word shasanam can be understood as a set of rules, a discipline applied to us from the outside, a set of instructions for what we’re supposed to do next. But when we put the word anu, which literally means “atom,” in front of it, it means the instructions or ways to act that come from the inside.
