Wow, what a great showing from the West Valley Girl Mite softball teams!

The West Valley Mites 2 team, “The Flying Purple People Eaters” (all first- year softball / fastpitch players) from the communities of Tuscany, Scenic Acres, Silver Springs, Bowness, and Bearspaw continued with their successful season by winning the Division 2A City Championships in late June. The playoff format was a double-knockout “Flying Purple People Eaters” format, and after losing their first game to the Airdrie 1 team (who had been undefeated in all three head to head games during the regular season), the girls persevered through the mosquitoes and rainstorms to win four consecutive games to claim the championship (including beating the Airdrie 1 team two times in the A side final). The playoffs proved to be a true team effort, with key contributions from all the players. Highlights included key first-time home runs, inning-ending strikeouts, defensive “BBombs” plays at the home run line, and of course key base stealing! Given that the girls only won three games all year in the nemesis, the SBR Strikers, and despite The West Valley teams then combined regular season, winning four consecutive a great effort, they lost their first playoff with players from other communities and games when it really mattered was a game to the Strikers.
