AVCA Announces Division I All-Americans

Columbus, Ohio (December 14, 2016) - The American Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce the 36th annual AVCA Division I All-America Teams for women's volleyball. The awards will be presented Dec. 16, 2016, in Columbus, Ohio at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet. The event is held in conjunction with the 2016 AVCA Convention.

Each of the three AVCA All-America Teams is comprised of 14 athletes. The Division I AVCA National Player of the Year will be announced on Dec. 16 at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet. This year’s class is led by Wisconsin Setter and Nebraska Right Side Kadie Rolfzen. They both take home their fourth AVCA All-American honor, and become just the 27th and 28th players in Division I history to accomplish that feat.

Merete Lutz, Stanford, RS Stats: 2.31 K/S, .284 Hitting %, 1.03 B/S Third AVCA All-American award (2015: Second-Team, 2014: Second-Team)…Out of their 34 All-Americans, she is the 17th different Cardinal to win All-American honors at least three times.

Kalei Mau, Arizona, OH Stats: 4.07 K/S, .225 Hitting %, 2.47 D/S Alongside teammate Penina Snuka, become the ninth and 10th AVCA All-Americans in program history…Their second and third All- Americans in the last two years (2014: Madi Kingdon)…Prior to 2014, their most recent All-American came in 2005 (Jennifer Abernathy, Kim Glass).

McKenna Miller, BYU, OH Stats: 3.89 K/S, .261 Hitting %, 0.45 B/S Nineteenth Cougar to garner All-American honors… Have had at least one All-American in every year since 2012.

Amber Rolfzen, Nebraska, MB Stats: 1.96 K/S, .323 Hitting %, 1.40 B/S Two-time AVCA All-American after making the second-team a year ago…Nebraska has the most All-American certificates in NCAA Division I with 84…Stanford is second with 80.

Penina Snuka, Arizona, S Stats: 10.77 A/S, 3.02 D/S, 35 Service Aces The third time in program history a pair of All-Americans have garnered the award in the same year (2001: Dana Burkholder + Jill Talbot, 2005: Jennifer Abernathy + Kim Glass).

Lindsey Vander Weide, Oregon, OH Stats: 3.24 K/S, .266 Hitting %, 2.71 D/S, 0.52 B/S Tenth different AVCA All-American for the Ducks…Out of their 14 All-American certificates, exactly half have come since 2011.

Tionna Williams, Wisconsin, MB Stats: 2.27 K/S, .326 Hitting %, 1.27 B/S The four AVCA All-Americans in this year’s class are the most Wisconsin has ever had…In 2014 they had three All-American awards.
