Pierce County Official Local Voters' Pamphlet Primary Election - August 7, 2012 More representation 6th than ever before... 9th 10th 8th Pierce County now has four congressional districts. MessageMessage from from the the Auditor Auditor Dear Voter, 2012 is a big year. Pierce County voters are on the front stage, on the front page, and more important than ever. More representation. Pierce County’s representation has increased. We’ve grown from seven to eight legislative districts: four in whole (25, 27, 28, and 29) and four in part (2, 26, 30, and 31). And, Pierce County has increased its Congressional Districts from three to four (6, 8, 9, and 10). The new 10th Congressional District will be decided by Pierce County voters, who make up 57% of this hotly contested open seat. Leave the driving to us. As a result of the 2010 Census and 2012 State Redistricting, boundaries have shifted. While Pierce Coun- ty may collectively have more districts than before, each voter is assigned only one Congressional District and only one Legislative District. And, that district may have changed! Wonder who you’re eligible to vote for? Relax. Like Greyhound says, “Leave the driving to us.” We have already assigned the new districts to your personal voter registration profile. As always, we’ll automatically send a ballot to your home with all of the measures and candidates that you’re eligible to vote on. State vacancies. We see an unusual amount of competition on this season’s ballot, as 2012 statewide offices have a high number of vacancies. Vacancies create real contests and attract new talent. This is where voters can make a real impact on the future of politics. Be sure to check out the candidates for the offices of Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, and State Auditor. Pierce County Voters’ Pamphlet This year, the State won’t publish a primary voters’ pamphlet. But, I know how important these races are to you. So, Pierce County has included all of the candidates in our Local Voters’ Pamphlet. I know that you take your civic duty seriously. You do your homework. That’s why the Pierce County Auditor’s Office puts so much effort into producing an excellent Voters’ Pamphlet, delivered to your door. Wear your “I Voted” sticker proudly (it’s inside this Voters’ Pamphlet), to remind your neighbors of their civic duty, and to celebrate the historic 2012 election year. As always, please don’t hesitate to call me. I’d love to hear from you. 253-798-3189, [email protected] Julie Anderson Pierce County Auditor 2 Table of Contents This pamphlet contains all races and issues that are on the ballot for this election. Your ballot will contain only the races and issues that you are eligible to vote on. See page 7 to learn how to determine which district you reside in.
