Despite afternoon showers on the anniversary of America’s freedom, Putnam County resi- dents and even people across other Florida counties came out to Palatka for the Fourth of July. Children held live reptiles, played on the Palatka riverfront, had their faces painted and enjoyed ice cream Sunday before the grand finale of fireworks. Fourth of July celebrations in the city were canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandem- ic. Winston Fletcher, the city’s cultural arts coordinator, said the rain kept some people away from the riverfront this year, but he thought the event was a suc- cess. The rain stopped by the time
