Private, not-for-profit higher education is vitally important to helping Georgia grow into a strong knowledge economy. Georgia Independent College Association’s (GICA) 25 member institutions serve over 70,600 students from across the state, region, nation and world. Through rigorous coursework, experiential learning opportunities, diverse classroom experiences and committed faculty and staff, students gain the necessary skills to think critically and communicate effectively to become thought leaders for Georgia.

GICA member institutions are committed to making the dream of a private higher education possible for any student with a desire to learn. The students served by these institutions are diverse: 59% are minority, 22% are over the age of 25, and 42% of students who apply for financial aid receive the Federal need-based Pell Grant. The private, not-for-profit colleges of GICA are devoted to helping all students achieve their dream of a quality college education while assisting Georgia to reach its educational attainment and workforce goals.

The Association experienced many positive developments in 2011 which included an increase in some of our named scholars programs, the launch of our professional development offerings, the creation of a research office to support GICA advocacy and institutional planning, and new and re-energized partnerships with various entities with the promise of fruitful partnerships in 2012 and beyond. GICA’s future promises to be as storied as our 56 year history.

GICA and our member institutions remain grateful for the support that devoted donors and elected officials have provided in helping make a private college education even more affordable. From donor-sponsored GICA named scholars programs to federal and state grants and scholarships, students and their parents appreciate the financial aid they receive as it allows them to choose the institution that best fits their academic, familial and spiritual needs.

Thank you for your continued support of the private, not-for-profit colleges. We are an important part of the higher education legacy of Georgia and an instrumental partner in securing Georgia’s future.

Sincerely,

Dr. George C. Bradley Susanna L. Baxter Board Chair, GICA President, GICA President,
