The Honourable Anna WU Hung-yuk, GBS, JP Non-Official Member Executive Council The Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

Anna Wu is a lawyer and a member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong, a position she has held since January 2009. She is the founding and current chair of the Competition Commission, created by ordinance to deter the formation of cartels and other anti-competitive conduct. The ordinance will come into full effect at the end of 2015.

Ms Wu is currently also a member of the International Advisory Board of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, a member of the Board of Management of the Centre of Comparative and Public Law of the University of Hong Kong and Chair of the University’s Academic Board for Post-Graduate Certificate in Laws.

She is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Hong Kong and an Honorary Court Member of Lingnan University.

Ms Wu has been involved in a wide range of public service and community roles in Hong Kong. She served as a member of the Legislative Council and in that capacity initiated the Equal Opportunities Bill, the first private member’s bill covering a whole area of policy. The initiative led to the setting up of the Equal Opportunities Commission by the Hong Kong government and the enactment of anti-discrimination laws in Hong Kong. Ms Wu subsequently chaired the Equal Opportunities Commission and she successfully litigated against government in several high profile cases on gender bias in education and discrimination against people associated with mental illness in employment.

Ms Wu actively promoted the use of alternative dispute resolution, impartial mediation in particular, for use in mainland China to enhance access to justice and to deal with the growth in many forms of disputes involving private citizens including labour, family, consumer and other forms of disputes.

Ms Wu previously chaired the Operations Review Committee of the Independent Commission Against Corruption and the Consumer Council. She was a member of the Law Reform Commission and of the , a Non-executive Director of the Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited and of the Securities and Futures Commission. She was also a member of the Women’s Leadership Board of the John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University.
