President’s Report for the year 2014/2015 It is indeed my honour to present to the members of Northern Golf Inc. the President, Annual and Audited Financial Report for the period 1st July 2014 - 30th June 2015. Vale: The Tasmanian golfing community is mourning the loss of Leonard Keith Rae who passed away on Tuesday 9 December, 2014. Over the years Len as a golfer represented Golf North West, the Northern Tasmanian Golf Association and the Southern Tasmanian Golf Union in Tasmania’s intrastate competition. At committee level, Len served on the Board of the Riverside Golf Club for 14 years, two years as Captain and three as President. Len also spent periods of time on the committees of the Darwin and Ulverstone Golf Clubs. Regionally, Len served as a Northern Tasmanian Golf Association Executive member from 1975-2001 and spent two years as President from 1980-1981. A Tasmanian Golf Council Executive member from 1976-2001, Len attained the position of state President in 1984 – 1987. As was his dedication to the state’s elite golfers, Len was Manager of the Tasmanian Men’s Team from 1985- 1990 and a State Selector from 1984 – 1993. On the national scene, Len served as an Executive member to the Australian Golf Union from 1995 to 2001, including holding the position of Australian Golf Union President in 1999. During his time with the Australian Golf Union, Len served on a number committees including the Rules and Amateur Status Committee (1996-1999) and Australian Open Championship Committee (2000-2001). Len also served as Captain/Manager of the Australian Men’s Team (1988-1989) and then as an Australian Selector from 1994-1996. Len was bestowed with life membership of the Tasmanian Golf Council and the Northern Tasmanian Golf Association in 1999 and the Commonwealth Government awarded Len the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 for his service to golf. Our sympathy’s go to Anne and family on the loss of a husband and father. NG Executive: It is with appreciation that I thank the Executive members of Northern Golf Inc. (NG) and Northern Tasmania Junior Golf Development (NTJGD) for their valued and tireless work for and on behalf of Golf and the Golf Clubs in the Northern District. Frances Hudson, Sheryl Manion, Trevor Atkinson, Rod Eiszele, Andy Barnes for the continued support in starting the fields and/or checking cards and making presentations to the winners and all those persons who have helped whenever a major event was held in the Northern Golf District go the thanks of Northern Golf Executive and all the players. The Golf Tasmania Board, General Manager Craig French, Operations Manager Stuart Eaton and Administration Officer Joan Cash, many thank for all the help that you have provided to Northern Golf and its member clubs it is greatly appreciated. Golf Club Managers/Secretaries My appreciation to the General Managers and Secretaries of the 24 member golf clubs in the Northern Golf District who have helped with the smooth running of Golf in particular Rob Aulich/Peter Westfield - Launceston, - Frank Tedeschi Riverside, Adrian Dennis – Mowbray, James Atkinson – David Cramp/Bryce Gorham - Prospect Vale, without this support from the Golf Club Managers and Secretaries as with the local PGA members we would struggle to be competitive as a District, it is very much appreciated. Northern Golf Secretary - Rick Sindorff What a massive job that Northern Golf’s Secretary Rick Sindorff does for all the golf clubs in the Northern District and all the players, not only attending events but all the behind the scenes that no one sees, such as preparing entries for the Northern Golf major events, communicating with golf clubs and Districts, Golf Tasmania, updating Facebook and website on Northern Golf are but to mention a few. Country Club Tasmania: Northern Golf Inc. appreciation to Country Club Tasmania for their continued support as the naming rights sponsor of Northern Golf Inc., also a Major sponsor to the Northern Amateur Championship, Country Week Championships, Northern Pennant, Northern Junior Championship, Northern Colts Championship, the Northern Senior Championship and the Ladies Northern Championship. North Golf are extremely proud to have a sponsorship arrangement of this magnitude with Country Club Tasmania, The thanks of the Executive and all golfers in Northern Tasmania, go to Marketing Manager Bede Clifton, Jo Mohr and Julie Kilinc Marketing Department, and Hotel Manager Mark Whitnell, for the continuous sponsorship arrangements and support to all golfers in the Northern District from Country Club Tasmania. East Coast District Association: My thanks go to the Executive of the East Coast Tasmania Golf Association for their continued administration of golf on the East Coast of Tasmania. Tim Longden - President, Norm Tildesley - Secretary, delegates Tim Harrison (St Helens), Shay Ward (Malahide), Scott Bennett (Scamander River) East Coast Championships were held at the Scamander River Golf Club and was won by Scamander River Golf Club, the Wallace Shield was won by Bicheno Golf Club and 2015 East Coast Champion of Champions was won by Mathew Miller of Scamander River Golf Club. Pennant: Bicheno has won the East Coast Division 3 pennant again this year and went on to play the Northern District winner Launceston Golf Club at the Campbell Town Golf Club which was won by Launceston in a close fought match. Many thanks for the St Helens Golf Club for hosting the Northern Golf Open forum on the East Coast in September 2015 topics discussed were: Mygolf, Junior coaching, Junior golf fund raising day, 2016 Pennant, 2015 NG AGM, GT AGM, Club Support & Development, Rules Accreditation, GA Golf Link, GA Golf Month. Bob Saunders: To Bob Saunders from Saunders Wool, our sincere thanks for his continued financial support of Northern Golf Inc., Bob has been a sponsor to the Northern Golf for the last 34 years, Saunders Wool sponsorship is greatly appreciated by Northern Golf. NG Annual Dinner: My thanks go to the Prospect Vale Golf Club for hosting the 2015 Northern Golf Annual Dinner on Friday 11th. July, incorporating the presentation of the 2015 Country Club Tasmania pennant flags to the winning teams, this is the fourth year where both the Women’s and Men’s winning teams who won their Division in the pennant season received their flags at the dinner. A special mention to the Women Pennant Teams on winning in 2015, Launceston Div.1, Riverside Div 2 & 3 and Exeter Div 4. In the Men Launceston Div 1, Riverside Div 2, Launceston Div. 3, Launceston Div 4, Poatina Div 5, Launceston Div 6 and Tam O’Shanter Div 7 and Launceston Div 6 winning the Handicap Final for 2015. The Exeter Div 4 Ladies and Launceston Div 1 & 3 Men on winning the State Pennant Flags for 2015. East Coast winning Team were Div 2 Scamander River Women and Bicheno Men. Riverside Junior’s for winning the 2015 Tasmanian Junior Pennant Congratulations must go to all North, Women, Men & Juniors players who have served with distinction around the State and at the National scene during the last 12 months. Junior Golf Development Committee Report for 2014/15 Jack Tregaskisjago and Paul Siejka represented Tasmania in the Victorian Junior Championships at Northern and Yarra Yarra in October. Jack then won the Southern Mens Open along with the Southern Junior Championships at Royal Hobart and Colebrook. Josh New represented the state at the South Australian Junior Masters. The committee provided funds to support Paul Siejka playing in the Aaron Baddeley final in Victoria. Lachlan McDougall won the Student Championship on a countback from Joel Harwood while Rebecca Irwin won the girls title. Josh New won the under 18, Riley Krushka the under 16 and Ryan Thomas the under 14. The 2014 Northern Junior Champion was Elijah Stanley. Ryan Thomas won the Betty Bradley Consistency for the player with the best average score from the junior tournaments played during the school holidays through the 2014 calendar year. Josh New was runner up and the committee would like to again thank Frank Stone for his continued support. A group of 12 boys travelled to Barnbougle Lost Farm and the committee expresses its thanks to Richard Sattler for providing this opportunity each year. Thanks to Rick Sindorff and Don Cameron for their work in submitting grant applications to organisations including McDonalds, Giving4Grassroots and St Lukes Health. Riverside retained their Northern Junior Pennant title and went on to defeat Kingston Beach in the State final with their team of Sam Manix-Geeves, Zac Swan, Josh New and Logan Buckney.
