Northern Golf Inc. President’s Report for the year 2014/2015

It is indeed my honour to present to the members of Northern Golf Inc. the President, Annual and Audited Financial Report for the period 1st July 2014 - 30th June 2015.

Vale:

The Tasmanian golfing community is mourning the loss of Leonard Keith Rae who passed away on Tuesday 9 December, 2014.

Over the years Len as a golfer represented Golf North West, the Northern Tasmanian Golf Association and the Southern Tasmanian Golf Union in Tasmania’s intrastate competition.

At committee level, Len served on the Board of the Riverside Golf Club for 14 years, two years as Captain and three as President. Len also spent periods of time on the committees of the Darwin and Ulverstone Golf Clubs.

Regionally, Len served as a Northern Tasmanian Golf Association Executive member from 1975-2001 and spent two years as President from 1980-1981.

A Tasmanian Golf Council Executive member from 1976-2001, Len attained the position of state President in 1984 – 1987.

As was his dedication to the state’s elite golfers, Len was Manager of the Tasmanian Men’s Team from 1985- 1990 and a State Selector from 1984 – 1993.

On the national scene, Len served as an Executive member to the Australian Golf Union from 1995 to 2001, including holding the position of Australian Golf Union President in 1999. During his time with the Australian Golf Union, Len served on a number committees including the Rules and Amateur Status Committee (1996-1999) and Championship Committee (2000-2001).

Len also served as Captain/Manager of the Australian Men’s Team (1988-1989) and then as an Australian Selector from 1994-1996.

Len was bestowed with life membership of the Tasmanian Golf Council and the Northern Tasmanian Golf Association in 1999 and the Commonwealth Government awarded Len the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 for his service to golf.

Our sympathy’s go to Anne and family on the loss of a husband and father.

Junior Golf Development Committee Report for 2014/15

Jack Tregaskisjago and Paul Siejka represented Tasmania in the Victorian Junior Championships at Northern and Yarra Yarra in October. Jack then won the Southern Mens Open along with the Southern Junior Championships at Royal and Colebrook. Josh New represented the state at the South Australian Junior Masters. The committee provided funds to support Paul Siejka playing in the Aaron Baddeley final in Victoria.

Lachlan McDougall won the Student Championship on a countback from Joel Harwood while Rebecca Irwin won the girls title. Josh New won the under 18, Riley Krushka the under 16 and Ryan Thomas the under 14. The 2014 Northern Junior Champion was Elijah Stanley.

Ryan Thomas won the Betty Bradley Consistency for the player with the best average score from the junior tournaments played during the school holidays through the 2014 calendar year. Josh New was runner up and the committee would like to again thank Frank Stone for his continued support. A group of 12 boys travelled to Barnbougle Lost Farm and the committee expresses its thanks to Richard Sattler for providing this opportunity each year.

Thanks to Rick Sindorff and Don Cameron for their work in submitting grant applications to organisations including McDonalds, Giving4Grassroots and St Lukes Health. Riverside retained their Northern Junior Pennant title and went on to defeat Kingston Beach in the State final with their team of Sam Manix-Geeves, Zac Swan, Josh New and Logan Buckney. The Northern roster matches were all played with enthusiasm and players and supporters from clubs across the North displayed excellent sportsmanship.

Zac Swan, Sam Manix-Geeves and Lachlan McDougall represented their state in the Australian Junior Interstate Team Matches in South and were joined by coach Bryce Gorham and Manager Pete Harwood. Rick Sindorff, Trevor Atkinson, Andy Barnes, Don Cameron and Rod Eiszele all completed the process to achieve Working With Children Registration through the Justice Department. Trevor Atkinson is thanked for arranging substantial sponsorship once again through Shane Revell for the Northern Junior Championships.

Thanks to all committee members for their work during the year. Andy Barnes, Trevor Atkinson, Bryce Gorham, Belinda Bailey, Don Cameron and Rick Sindorff have provided dedicated support to the committee in its efforts to promote junior golf.

The number of juniors regularly attending school holiday tournaments was averaging 20 boys and girls for the early half of the 2015 year but has sadly declined to around 12 or less in recent months. The committee continues to explore activities aimed at increasing participation. Golf Australia and the PGA re-launched the MyGolf program in 2015 and hopes are held that we see an increase in numbers.

Rod Eiszele

Secretary’s Report:

I have thoroughly enjoyed my duties in 2014/15. Some of the highlights have been the Mens State Pennant final won by Launceston, Exeter winning the Womens State title, St Helens hosting Ladies City Week; with such a high level of participation which was duplicated by Country Week at Mowbray Golf Club, Claremont Shield, Thyne Trophy and North vs South!

Pennant remains a strong focus and has provided enjoyable competition and success for clubs in the North.

I have managed to visit/play quite a few clubs over the past year and the hospitality, as well as the condition of courses has been exemplary.

Whilst the lack of juniors coming through remains an issue there are people working very hard to encourage boys and girls to try our game. We hope to see numbers increase in the not too distant future.

Whilst the financial result for the year was a loss there were some unusual expenses. I realise that we cannot have continual losses and I am confident that we will have small profits in the next few years.

Finally, to all the hard working committee members of all our Clubs, who volunteer their time, especially over the cold winter evenings, congratulations and well done!

Kind regards, Rick Sindorff

Rod Eiszele:

Rod Eiszele the champion of the press for all golf clubs and golfers in Northern Golf District for 35 years and still going strong, one of the hardest workers for the betterment of Junior Golf for many a long year and now serving on the Northern Golf Executive . The Examiner Golf Columnist for Men & Women, a friend to all golfers on behalf of all golfers in the State, our sincere thanks for a wonderful job.

To all of the above I thank each and everyone for everything that they have done to better golf in the Northern Golf District and Tasmania in general.

Northern Golf Inc Notes to the Financial Statements For the Year ended 30 June 2015

1. Summary of Significant Accounting Policies

(a) Basis of Preparation The financial statements are special purpose financial statements prepared in order to satisfy the financial reporting requirements of the Associations Incorporation Act (TAS) . The committee has determined that the association is not a reporting entity.

The financial statements have been prepared on an accruals basis and are based on historic costs and do not take into account changing money values or, except where specifically stated, current valuations of non-current assets. The following material accounting policies, which are consistent with the previous period unless otherwise stated, have been adopted in the preparation of the financial statements.

(b) Property, Plant and Equipment Property, plant and equipment are carried at cost, independent or committees' valuation. All assets excluding freehold land, are depreciated over their useful lives to the association. Leasehold improvements and office equipment are carried at cost less, where applicable, any accumulated depreciation.

(c) Revenue and Other Income Revenue is recognised when the amount of the revenue can be measured reliably, it is probable that economic benefits associated with the transaction will flow to the entity and specific criteria relating to the type of revenue as noted below, has been satisfied. Revenue is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable and is presented net of returns, discounts and rebates. All revenue is stated net of the amount of goods and services tax (GST).

Sale of Goods Revenue is recognised on transfer of goods to the customer as this is deemed to be the point in time when risks and rewards are transferred and there is no longer any ownership or effective control over the goods.

Interest Revenue Interest is recognised using the effective interest method.

Rendering of Services Revenue in relation to rendering of services is recognised depends on whether the outcome of the services can be measured reliably. If this is the case then the stage of completion of the services is used to determine the appropriate level of revenue to be recognised in the period. If the outcome cannot be reliably measured then revenue is recognised to the extent of expenses recognised that are recoverable.
