CLEVELAND TO HOST NBA ALL-STAR 2022 AND COMMEMORATE THE LEAGUE’S 75th ANNIVERSARY CLEVELAND, Nov. 1, 2018 – The NBA announced that Cleveland has been selected to host NBA All-Star 2022, when the league will be commemorating its 75th anniversary. The 71st NBA All-Star Game will take place at Quicken Loans Arena, home of the Cleveland Cavaliers, on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022. The Cavaliers previously hosted NBA All-Star in 1997, when the NBA celebrated its 50th anniversary, and in 1981.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made the announcement on Nov. 1 during a press conference at Quicken Loans Arena, where he was joined by Cavaliers Chairman Dan Gilbert, Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena CEO Len Komoroski, Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson, Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish and U.S. Representative, Eleventh Congressional District of Ohio, Marcia Fudge.

“Cleveland is a passionate sports city with a proven track record of hosting large-scale, global events,” said Silver. “We thank Dan Gilbert, Len Komoroski and the civic leaders for their commitment, and we look forward to a weeklong celebration of our game.”

With the current, large-scale arena renovations underway that will be completed in advance of NBA All-Star 2022, the game and extended activities in the transformed Quicken Loans Arena will offer fans an enhanced experience.

NBA All-Star on-court events will tip off on Friday, Feb. 18 at Quicken Loans Arena with MTN DEW ICE Rising Stars, an annual showcase for top rookies and second-year NBA players. On Feb. 19, State Farm All-Star Saturday Night will feature the Taco Bell Skills Challenge and the Three-Point and Slam Dunk contests. NBA All-Star 2022 will culminate with the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 20.

The NBA will host several events for fans of all ages at venues throughout the city, including The Wolstein Center at Cleveland State University and Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland. These events, including NBA All-Star Practice and the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game presented by Ruffles, will feature basketball programming and entertainment for fans as well as up-close access to NBA players, legends and celebrities.

Cleveland last hosted NBA All-Star in 1997, when the league celebrated its 50th anniversary season. The NBA’s 50 Greatest Players were honored during a ceremony at halftime of the All-Star Game.

The 1997 NBA All-Star Game featured a historic performance from Charlotte Hornets forward Glen Rice, who set an All-Star record for points in a quarter with 20 in the third period. Rice finished with 26 points to lead the Eastern Conference past the Western Conference 132-120, earning MVP honors.

Also at NBA All-Star 1997, Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard Kobe Bryant won the Slam Dunk Contest, Chicago Bulls guard triumphed in the Three-Point Contest and Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard Allen Iverson was named MVP of Rising Stars.

The Cavaliers also hosted NBA All-Star 1981, at Richfield Coliseum, the team’s home from 1974-94. Behind MVP Tiny Archibald of the Boston Celtics, the East defeated the West 123-120.

CAVS HOSTING ANNUAL “HARVEST FOR HUNGER” CAMPAIGN PRESENTED BY TRUSTEDSEC AT THIS WEEK’S GAMES TO BENEFIT THE GREATER CLEVELAND FOOD BANK The Cleveland Cavaliers are teaming up with TrustedSec and once again joining the Greater Cleveland Food Bank for their annual “Harvest for Hunger” campaign. Fans will have the opportunity to help the effort next week, as the Wine and Gold will be collecting items at the home games on Monday, March 18th (vs. Detroit Pistons), Wednesday, March 20th (vs. Milwaukee Bucks) and Friday, March 22nd (vs. Los Angeles Clippers).

Fans can donate canned goods and non-perishable items at grocery cart collection bins located at all main entrances into Quicken Loans Arena those nights. Those in attendance at Monday and Friday’s games can also help by participating in the in-arena 50/50 raffle, which will benefit the Harvest for Hunger initiative. Also in support of the Harvest for Hunger campaign, the Cavs will once again donate 10,000 meals to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. Plus, the team will match every pound of food generously donated by fans at the three games.

Harvest for Hunger is one of several ways the Cavs support the Greater Cleveland Food Bank throughout the year. Over the last three years, the team has donated more than $175,000 to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, resulting in over 700,000 meals provided to those in need. Additionally, through grants from the Cavaliers Community Foundation, the Cavs have also supported the Food Bank's “BackPacks for Kids” program, providing school children with food to take home in order to sustain them over a weekend.

CHARGE GROUND BAYHAWKS IN FRONT OF CAPACITY CROWD CANTON, OH – The Canton Charge (20-27), topped the Erie BayHawks (21-26), 103-100 in front of a sellout crowd of 3,905 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on Saturday night (3/16/19). The Charge swept the season series and improved their all-time record vs. Erie to 29-12. The 29 wins are the most against any single opponent for the Charge.

For the third consecutive game, the Charge trio of JaCorey Williams, Levi Randolph and Jaron Blossomgame each notched a double-double for the Wine & Gold. Randolph scored a season-high 29 points on 13- of-24 shooting to lead all scorers. Randolph tied his season-high with 10 rebounds to secure his third double-double of the season and sixth of his NBA G League career. Williams had an all-around effort with 18 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and four blocks in 41 minutes of action. Williams’ double-double marked his fourth in as many games. Blossomgame recorded his fourth consecutive double-double as well, netting 17 points with 11 rebounds in 37 minutes and setting a season-high with five blocked shots. The Charge set a team season-high with 12 blocks. Scoochie Smith stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Signed earlier in the week via the Available Player Pool, Charge guard Nigel Johnson made his Charge debut, providing nine points off of the bench.

Trailing 84-75 after three tightly contested quarters, the Charge rallied in the fourth quarter for the second straight game behind a staunch defensive effort. The Charge forced six BayHawks turnovers in the fourth, resulting in eight points for the Wine & Gold. Erie went cold from the field in the final period, connecting on 6-of-20 shots (30%). Strong defense resulted into easy offense for the Charge as they were able to on 7-of-11 made field goals in the final 12 minutes. The Charge shot 55% in the fourth en route to outscoring Erie 28-16 to close out the 103-100 win. The Charge are now 6-2 in their final home games of the regular season and have won four straight finales.

Cat Barber and Jeremy Hollowell each scored 19 points to lead the BayHawks. Barber had an all-around effort, adding 11 assists and seven rebounds in 42 minutes of action before leaving the game with an injury late in the fourth quarter. Center Isaac Humphries made his presence felt with a double-double of his own, scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in 26 minutes. Erie concludes their season with a three-game homestand starting this Wednesday against the Maine Red Claws.
