PROFESSIONAL & POLITICAL EXPERIENCE

Candidate for Congress in California’s 4th District, 2017-2018. Mounted a grassroots campaign for Congress in my home district. Managed several staff and recruited nearly 900 volunteers. Raised $795,000, with a high percentage of in-district contributions, small donations, and contributions from female donors. Endorsed by the region’s leading papers, the Modesto Bee and the Sacramento Bee. Finished 3rd in the top-two primary on June 5, 2018.

Election Observer, the Organization of American States, 2011. Observed the second round of the Guatemalan presidential election in the department of San Marcos. Traveled independently in rural areas and interviewed local leaders, government officials, and police.

Spanish-English Interpreter, Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization, Yale Law School. 2007-2012 (part-time). Provided accurate and culturally sensitive consecutive interpretation and translation services. Handled cases in the areas of immigration, workers’ rights, domestic violence, and landlord- tenant disputes. Interpreted for clients during psychological exams, meetings with attorneys, immigration court hearings, and asylum interviews.

Foreign Service Officer, US Department of State, 2004-2006. Served as a consular officer at the US Embassy in Guatemala City. Interviewed visa applications, managed visa fraud investigations, performed routine American Citizen Services, and assisted American citizens in crisis.
