Recessional St. Anthony Brass Quintet Norm Coleman United States Senator, Minnesota
Senator Norm Coleman is a native of Brooklyn, New York. He attended college at Hofstra University on Long Island, NY. He was student body president and a student activist deeply involved in the anti-war and civil rights movements. He went to the University of Iowa Law School where he also served as student body president and graduated with highest honors. Following Law School, he headed north to Minnesota, where he worked for 17 years in the office of the Minnesota Attorney General.
In 1993, as a Democrat, Coleman was elected mayor of St. Paul, defeating the endorsed candidate of the Democratic Farm Labor Party. When he took office, the Capital City was experiencing a serious economic decline and increase in crime and other social problems. He set out to reform city services, put a lid on property tax increases and established public-private partnerships. His efforts paid off, attracting $3 billion of private investments, eighteen thousand new jobs, and, of course, the return ofNHL hockey to Minnesota.
In 1997 he was reelected mayor as a Republican, with 59 percent of the vote. In 1998 he ran for governor and narrowly lost in a three way race. The day after he lost he was back at his desk in Saint Paul by 8:00 a.m. In 2002 he ran as the Republican candidate for United States Senator and was elected with 50% of the vote after a contested election with national attention and significance.
As Minnesota's United States Senator, Norm Coleman serves on the Agriculture Committee, the Small Business Committee, the Governmental Affairs Committee, and the Foreign Relations Committee.
He holds two prestigious chairmanships. Senator Coleman is the Chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, an assignment once held by Harry Truman. Senator Coleman also serves as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, which has taken him on travels to numerous Central and South American destinations, including Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina.
Finally, Senator Coleman is also a member of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee.

The Class of2005 is pleased to announce that its class gift will be a donation to the Law Library for new furniture. Because the Law Library is a place we have all spent so many hours, we wanted to leave a legacy there. With a matching program from the Dean's Office and the Law Library, the class gift will be over $10,000. The Class of2005 hopes that future Law School students will enjoy the new furnishings and continue the important tradition of giving back to the Law School.
