CZ9626447 So far approximately half of the beams has been measured in Czech Republic : 12 Co beams, 6 Cs beams, 4 X-Ray LINACs, 6 betatrons). Out of 28 measured beams 19 have been already evaluated: 13 of them had deviation of measured and quoted value less then 3%, 5 of them had this deviation between 3 and 6 percent, one exceed 6 % deviation. The deviation of expected and measured value of quality index was between 3 and 6 percent for 5 betatron's X-ray beams. It is still too early to draw general conclusions and to evaluate possible sources of errors and their repair, but the TLD mailed system was already successfully established. For several radiotherapeuticai departments it is the first possibility to participate in such external audit of absorbed dose determination and delivery. This quantity is mostly estimated by fitting a straight line in semi-logarithmic coordinates. The quality of the usual least-squares fit was found susceptible to measurement errors. For this reason, a novel Bayes-based solution has been recently proposed. It improved quality of the gained estimates by exploiting well defined probabilistic nature of the problem as well as physically justified prior information.

The nine cultural dimensions, on the basis of which the comparative analysis of obtained data was realized, significantly influence various aspects of management and organizational behavior. Authors pose several research questions: How do the perceptions of Slovak and Slovenian respond- ents concerning the cultural practices differ? How do the cultural values of Slo- vak and Slovenian sample of respondents differ? Which leadership styles are preferred by the Slovak respondents? Do their preferences in this regard differ from the preferences of their Slovenian counterparts? Based on the research results, could be a cultural convergence between these two societies expected? Keywords: GLOBE Student project, culture, leadership styles, intercultural communication, Slovakia, Slovenia JEL Classification: M16 Introduction Professional economic and managerial communities as well as academics are for more than twenty years confronted with the results of a leading international comparative research project entitled the GLOBE (Global Leadership and Orga- nizational Behavior Effectiveness research). ENGENDERING ECONOMICS: NEW PERSPECTIVES ON WOMEN, WORK, AND DEMOGRAPHIC CHANGE1 Nancy FOLBRE Rent-seeking coalitions based on gender create a gender bias in social institutions that influences market outcomes. How does economic development, which involves substantial relocation of economic functions from the family to the market and the state, affect the behavior of gender coalitions and the evolution of gender bias? Economists will not be able to adequately answer this question until they develop a broader research agenda and begin to collect more systematic data on institutional bias, the organization of nonmarket work, and the distribution of resources within the family. engender:. 1. Biologia, Bratislava, 61/Suppl. 21: S543—S616, 2006 Section Zoology DOI: 10.2478/s11756-007-0100-x Aphid-pathogenic Entomophthorales (their taxonomy, biology and ecology) Marek Barta & Ľudovít Cagáň Department of Plant Protection, Slovak University of Agriculture, Tr. A. Hlinku 2,SK–94901, Nitra, Slovakia; e-mail: [email protected] Abstract: Fungi of the order Entomophthorales (Zygomycota, Zygomycetes) constitute a group of mostly insect pathogenic species, which attracts attention of insect pathologists because of their high capacity for use in biological control of pest insects. This work primarily focuses on entomophthoralean species attacking aphids. The Entomophthorales are considered major pathogens of aphids in nature. In fact, the fungi are the only pathogens that regularly and effectively can affect aphid populations in natural ecosystems as well as in agroecosystems. Up to now, 33 entomophthoralean species organized into 9 genera have been recorded in aphid hosts. All fungal species are listed and organised by genus in the work. Descriptions are presented for all the fungal genera and species, including a nomenclature genesis, a geographical distribution, a host specificity/host range, a capability of cultivation in vitro, and possible prospects for their use in biological control strategies. A key to identification of the pathogens is provided as well. A general life cycle outline of the pathogens is followed by fundamental facts on biology and ecology of the fungi and analysis of primary factors that are involved in the study of epizootiology of infectious diseases in insect populations. The abiotic and biotic elements of the environment, which interfere in the pathogen–host interactions, are also underlined.

The usual disclaimer applies. Fiscal Crisis in Europe or a Crisis of Distribution? Abstract We are in a new episode of the global crisis: the struggle to distribute the costs of the crisis. The financial speculators and corporations are relabeling the crisis as a “sovereign debt crisis” and pressurizing the governments in diverse countries ranging from Greece to Britain to cut spending to avoid taxes on their profits and wealth. In Europe the crisis laid bare the historical divergences. At the root of the problem is the neoliberal model which turned the periphery of Europe into markets for the core. The restrained policy framework, which is based on strict inflation targeting, and which lacks fiscal transfers targeting productive investments in the periphery is the main cause of the divergences. The EU’s current policies are still assuming that the problem is a lack of fiscal discipline and do not question the structural reasons behind the deficits and the “beggar my neighbor” policies of Germany.

  • European Integration and Foreign Policy in Central and Eastern Europe: the Cases of Hungary, Slovakia and Romania
EUROPEAN INTEGRATION AND FOREIGN POLICY IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE: THE CASES OF HUNGARY, SLOVAKIA AND ROMANIA by SORIN !TEFAN DENCA A thesis submitted to The University of Birmingham for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Centre for Russian and East European Studies School of Government and Society College of Social Sciences The University of Birmingham August 2010 University of Birmingham Research Archive e-theses repository This unpublished thesis/dissertation is copyright of the author and/or third parties. Abstract This thesis examines the impact of Europeanization on the foreign policy of the new member states of the European Union, using as case studies Hungary, Slovakia and Romania. It asks what the extent of Europeanization of foreign policy is and whether and to what extent there has been divergence in the way in which the new member states have responded to the similar constraints and opportunities of the European integration. Insofar as divergence can be identified, a third research question asks why there is policy divergence. It argues that the governmental politics and the politics of national identity play a key role as mediating factors for the Europeanization of the system of policy making, the process of elite socialization and the conduct of foreign policy itself.

  • Defending Rights, Promoting Democracy: the Institution of Ombudsman in Poland, Russia and Bulgaria
Defending Rights, Promoting Democracy: The Institution of Ombudsman in Poland, Russia and Bulgaria Evgeny Finkel1 Department of Political Science The Hebrew University of Jerusalem e-mail: [email protected] 1I would like to thank the Konrad Adenauer Foundation for the generous financial support, which allowed me to conduct this research in Israel and Europe. I am grateful to the Helmut Kohl Institute for European Studies, its Director, Prof. Bianca Kühnel and Mrs. Revital Goldberg for their help, patience and assistance. Many people assisted me in my work and their help was of a great value: In Poland, Justice Prof. E. Letowska, the first Ombudsman and Judge of the Constitutional Tribunal, together with Mr. P. Kaminski from the Ombudsman’s office provided me with all the information I needed. To Dr. K. Motyka (Catholic University of Lublin) I thank for his hospitality and advice. In Russia, Ms. N. Tsymbalova (“Strategiia” think tank at St.-Petersburg) provided me with very useful materials and explained things I found hard to understand. In Bulgaria, Mr. M. Kazak, the Deputy Ombudsman, and Dr. I. Tsakova were of great assistance, as well as members of Ombudsman Task Force at the Center for Study of Democracy, especially Mr. A. Roussanov and Ms. D. Paunova. Prof. N. Ananieva, former vice prime-minister of Bulgaria provided me with many useful details, which I could not find otherwise. In Israel, I like to thank Prof. S. Avineri for his useful remarks and advice. Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to my wife, Julie, for her endless support, understanding, patience and editorial skills.
