FOR NEW MEMBERS: All club walks are either circular or linear and start as from the time of arrival of the train and/or bus. If you are arriving by car, please advise the leader before the day of the walk. Lunch is mostly at a pub. If you are unsure about suitable clothing for a walk please contact the leader. SUNDAY 6th: London-based walk for those not going to Lynton: CHINGFORD (CIRCULAR) Meet Walthamstow Central bus station to catch 10am train replacement bus to Chingford. Walk in and around Epping Forest, taking in Connaught Water, Strawberry Hill ponds, Ludgate Water, woods, hills and farms in the area, the London LOOP, Centenary Walk and other paths. Pub lunch tbc. EX174. Distance 7.5 miles. Leader: Jackie. SATURDAY 12th : SAXON SHORE-WAY Part 5 BLOORS WHARF – KINGSFERRY BRIDGE (LINEAR): Join Martin for more Saxon Shore-Way. Meet Victoria Stn. Buy OPDR to Swale. Ramsgate/Dover Priory train departs at 09.40 platform 2, arriving Rainham, Kent at 10.36 from where we start walking. Lunch at The Three Tuns, Lower Halstow (circa 1470) family run pub. Distance 13 miles. Ex 163 / 149. Leader Martin. SATURDAY 19th: NORTHWOOD to RICKMANSWORTH (LINEAR): A walk in rural Hillingdon through Ruislip Woods and taking in the view over Colne Valley, All travel within Oyster or with Freedom Pass. Meet at 10.15 at Northwood tube stn (Watford arm of Met line) for prompt start, travel from Baker Street ~30min. Bring packed lunch we can eat at Kings Arms, Harefield as they do not serve food. SATURDAY 26th: HORSHAM (CIRCULAR) via SOUTHWATER & SEDGWICK PARK: Pleasant walking country with gentle wooded hills and meadow. Meet Victoria Station. Buy OPDR to Horsham. Soton / Bognor Regis train dep. 9.36, (Clapham Junction 9.42 & E. Croydon 9.52) arr. Horsham 10.27. Pub lunch at Nuthurst. Distance 9 miles. Ascent / descent 200m. NOVEMBER SUNDAY 3rd: DEEPDENE, BROCKHAM and BETCHWORTH CASTLE (CIRCULAR): An unusual walk with views over the River Mole and detours to the 'lost' country house of Deepdene and the romantic ruin of Betchworth Castle. Lunch in one of Surrey's best kept villages. Meet Victoria stn. Buy OPDR to Dorking. Train dep. 9.42, arr. Dorking (main) 10.39. Lunch The Royal Oak, Brockham. Distance 7.5 miles. EX 146. Leader: Susan J. (07763 131145) who will join the train at Clapham Junction. SATURDAY 9th: HYDE HEATH AND CHESHAM (CIRCULAR): Woodland and farmland. Gentle slopes. Meet at Marylebone. All travel within Oyster Card/Freedom Pass zones. Aylesbury train departs 09.57, Harrow on Hill 10.09, arrives Amersham 10.32. Latish lunch at the Pheasant, Chesham Waterside. They don't do food but you are invited to bring your own and eat it in the pub. Distance: 9 miles (can shorten to 6 miles by returning from Chesham. EX 172/181. SATURDAY 23rd: HERTFORD NORTH (CIRCULAR): We walk on the newly opened paths through Panshanger Park which was created by Humphry Repton in the late 18th century. It is a historic park and garden registered Grade II by English Heritage. Part of the estate is a country park and nature reserve. Meet Finsbury Park stn. Buy OPDR to Hertford North. Train dep. 9.57 (the leader will board the train in Cuffley at 10.26), arr. 10.37. Lunch at the Rose & Crown in Tewin. LR166. Distance: 8.3 miles. Leader: Dominique. SATURDAY 30th: BOROUGH GREEN (Kent) (CIRCULAR): Lovely undulating walk in the Weald of Kent through woods, fields and orchards plus wonderful views! Potentially muddy in parts. Meet Victoria stn. Leader: Pam DECEMBER SATURDAY 7th CHORLEYWOOD (zone 7) to CHESHAM (zone 9) (LINEAR): Varied picturesque landscape walking through woodland and uplands, gently undulating. Meet Met Line platforms at Baker Street to catch 9.50 train or 10.31am at Chorleywood. All travel within Oyster Card/Freedom Pass zones. Lunch in The Crown PH at Ley Hill. Tea shop in Chesham at the end of the walk. Distance: 8.5 miles. EX181&172. Leader: Mary King TUESDAY 10th: EVENING WALK: ILLUMINATED RIVER: Walk along the river to see the first four of the 15 illuminated bridges that will form part of this artwork along the Thames. Meet Southwark tube station at 18.30. Walk will end at Tower Bridge tube station. 2 miles. SATURDAY 28th: BANSTEAD WOOD & PARK DOWNS (CIRCULAR) : Ancient woods, fine views and attractive chalk downland. Meet Victoria stn. Reigate train dep. 10.09 (Clapham Junction 10.15, E. Croydon 10.26), change at Purley 10.34/10.51, arr. Chipstead 11.02 (Zone 6), Lunch at The Mint, Banstead. Distance: 6 miles. EX 146. Leader: Danny (07591-999016) JANUARY SATURDAY 4th WIMBLEDON to PUTNEY via ROEHAMPTON (LINEAR): Some uphill’s through woods, commons a village and a windmill followed by a tour of the perimeter of Putney Heath. Mostly gravel paths, but may still be muddy in parts. Take District line from Paddington at 9.15, arriving Wimbledon at 09.54. Leader will meet the group at Wimbledon. Lunch a Wimbledon Windmill Café. Finish at the Green Man PH Putney Heath. Distance 6.5 Miles EX161. Return from Putney station. Leader Hilary Abbey SATURDAY 11th: NEW ADDINGTON (CIRCULAR). A winter walk within Zone 6 and the green belt with a few undulations and a tram ride. Lunch at the White Bear, Fickleshole. Meet Victoria stn. Bognor Regis train dep 09.36, Clapham Jct 09.42, arr. East Croydon 09.52 (Zone 4). Then Tram 3 outside the station at 10.06, arr. New Addington 10.26. (£1.50 tram fare each way for Oyster/Contactless users). Distance 8 miles. EX161. FRIDAY 17th- MONDAY 20th 2019 - SNOW-WALKING WEEKEND IN AUSTRIA: Long weekend walking in the snow in the village of Scharnitz, the gateway to the Karwendel Nature Park in the Tyrol region. If interested or if you have any query, contact Dominique SATURDAY 18th (for those in UK not snow-walking) SHOOTERS HILL to GREENWICH and BLACKHEATH (LINEAR): Taking us through commons of Eltham and Woolwich, parks of Charlton, Greenwich, Thames path and ends at Blackheath common/station. Meet at 10.30 at WOOLWICH ARSENAL STATION concourse. All travel within zone 1 to zone 4. Suggested SE train dep London Bridge 10.09, arr. Woolwich at 10.30. Alternatively travel from Bank DLR direct to Woolwich Arsenal DLR adjacent to SE station. Allow 40 mins journey time from Bank. Then we all catch bus 244 from Woolwich to Shooters Hill (The Bull).
