In addition to “Veronica Mars,” Dohring recently filmed independent feature “The Squeeze,” opposite Jeremy Sumpter. Born in Toledo, Ohio and raised in Los Angeles, Dohring got his start in entertainment at a young age. His family made the move to LA when he was four years old. The publisher will bring Rust: The Novel, to readers this October 15. The book is an adaptation of Bernsen’s 2010 feature film Rust in which Bernsen played the main character as well as served as writer and director. “I really found my voice in that film,” Bernsen says. “I was really looking for a greater meaning, a greater purpose, in life…to be able to expand on that in a novel just became an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.” Ever Since Georges Méliés adapted Jules Verne’s From the Earth to the Moon in 1902, books have regularly been adapted into movies. The reverse—movies into books—is a less common occurrence, but “makes sense when the characters and plot can be fleshed out to create a compelling novel,” according to Editor-in-Chief for Pelican, Nicola Martinez. “The book holds such a relatable message about faith and family. We are thrilled to publish Rust,” says Martinez. Rust: The Novel is the plight of one pastor’s crisis of faith and the struggle to save his friend’s life and restore hope to a floundering community.

  • Kaitlyn Storey
Salutatorian Address – Kaitlyn Storey Good evening, everybody. It’s been a while. I have a feeling that, for many of you, this will be the most words you have heard or ever will hear come out of my mouth. So let’s hope this goes well.Oh, and just to clarify -- don’t worry -- my work is honest and I know of no cheating. For those who don’t know, I only attended Seton for the last 2 years of high school, so pardon my lack of sweet sentiments and fond memories in this speech. I’ll have to leave that to the more qualified speakers. Sadly, this year did not go as many had hoped. Pretty much all the fun stuff planned for senior year at Seton didn’t happen and I’m pretty sure that’s why most seniors even bother finishing senior year. Not to mention the huge personal impact this virus has had on each of our lives. For starters, I’m sure most of us were picking up new hobbies instead of finishing Mrs. Mirus’s papers. Quarantine became a time to experiment with your hair, your cooking, get in shape, and get closer with your families. Which for some of us helped us realize we’re not barbers, terrible cooks, probably set a world record for hours of TV watched in one week, and some days it feels like you could never get far enough away from your family. But we have no doubt become creative with our time and realize all we can do with it and that maybe we really do have time to write letters and go for walks -- who knew? But more importantly, this pandemic has shown us how heroic and dedicated our communities and neighbors have been in times of need, how tirelessly and selflessly our healthcare workers, food drive organizers, and first responders have worked to save lives and to keep our communities functioning.

  • Formula, Genre and Branding in Usa Network's Programming and Promotional Content
GENRE WELCOME?: FORMULA, GENRE AND BRANDING IN USA NETWORK'S PROGRAMMING AND PROMOTIONAL CONTENT Cory Barker A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2012 Committee: Dr. Jeffrey Brown, Advisor Dr. Kristen Rudisill Dr. Marilyn Motz © 2012 Cory Barker All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Dr. Jeffrey Brown, Advisor In the fragmented post-network era of television, networks are looking for any advantage in attracting audiences. One way networks try to draw attention is through branding. Branding helps networks stand out among the hundreds of other choices, but can also link all of a network’s programming under one carefully-crafted theme. When viewers access a network’s content from numerous devices, it is crucial that each experience evokes similar images, styles and themes. It is my assertion that cable giant USA Network has succeeded with its branding campaign like no other contemporary television network. By combining a programming formula of blue skies, cool cases and pretty faces with thematically-connected branding under the “Characters Welcome” label, USA Network and its structurally formulaic programs are activated into a new genre of television. This activation from formula into genre is accomplished narratively, thematically and aesthetically within the programs themselves, but is primarily driven by the commodification of those narratives, themes and aesthetics through an overarching branding campaign (television spots, on-screen chyrons, print ads, web sites, Tweets, various other intertextual directives) that promises diverting, but not mindless, fare. The brand emphasizes escapism and inclusivity through sunshine-drenched imagery and a laid-back, summertime ideology.
