THE EVENTS GUIDE

croydonheritagefestival.co.uk THE As a 400 year old charity steeped in history, we are delighted to present Croydon Heritage Festival for the third year running. The festival is a celebration of Croydon’s often forgotten but incredible heritage as we look to the future of important redevelopment for our town.

We were founded in 1596 by Archbishop with the aim to provide education and care in Croydon. Today, we continue to expand these services in the community:

>> We grant bursaries totalling £5 million a year to students who attend our three schools, Whitgift, Trinity and Old Palace, representing one of the largest school fee support schemes in the UK. Currently 46% of our students receive financial support towards school fees.

>> We care for 100 older residents at Whitgift Care, offering a full package of care from respite, day care and sheltered accommodation, to full residential and nursing care across our three homes: the Whitgift Almshouses, Wilhelmina House and Whitgift House.

>> We provide free support and advice to the borough’s estimated 34,000 carers at the Carers Support Centre in George Street run by our Carers’ Information Service.

To fund these charitable activities, we rely on income from our investment and property portfolio around Croydon including our freehold ownership of the .

For some time we have been working in partnership with Westfield and latterly the Croydon Partnership to bring about a transformational change to Croydon’s town centre.

This redevelopment is not only vital to the town but will also enable us to sustain our charitable activities in the local community for years to come.

Croydon Heritage Festival’s Future Competition

In our bid to find the future stars of Croydon, we have asked Croydon’s young artists to create an artwork of their vision of Future Croydon. Imagine skipping forward 10, 100 or 1,000 years into Croydon’s future. What will the skyline look like, what will the residents be wearing, what futuristic vehicles will they be driving and what will they be eating? Can you imagine how the Borough will change for the better?

Croydon is on the brink of exciting change with redevelopment set for the town centre. Following this year’s festival theme ‘Famous Croydon’, we wanted to hear from Croydon’s future generation about what they think will make Croydon famous in years to come.

Visit www.croydonheritagefestival.co.uk/competitions for more information or come along to our Heritage Exhibition in the Whitgift Shopping Centre to see finalists’ artwork from our primary and under 18 competition.
