Wednesday 5th September 2018

Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers,

As your children start in Year 6 I know that many of you will have started considering secondary schools. The window for application to a (local authority, voluntary aided, or free school) starting in September 2019 opens on 1st September. A leaflet with the key dates is attached to this email and an electronic brochure giving detailed information about all aspects of the process is now available on Richmond Council’s website and can be accessed using the link below: http://www.richmond.gov.uk/media/3066/secondary_admission.pdf

This brochure explains exactly what you need to do and when you need to do it, as well as giving information about the schools in Richmond. In addition to the brochure and prior to you making your decision about which schools to apply for, secondary schools offer opportunities to visit and look around. The timetable for Richmond schools’ open mornings and evenings is in the document attached with this letter. These visits offer you the opportunity to meet with the staff and pupils of the schools to find out more and ask questions. These are specifically aimed and related to the pupils starting secondary in September 2019. Our Year 6 pupils will also have the opportunity to visit with the Year 6 teachers on the morning of 14th September 2018. They will be shown around by one of our ex-pupils and staff from Orleans Park.

As has been the case for several years, the preferred method of application is through the online system which is accessed via https://www.eadmissions.org.uk Applications MUST be submitted by the 31st October 2018. If you miss this closing date you can still submit an application but it will be considered late and will only be considered after all on time applications. You will be notified directly on March 1st 2019 as to where your child has been given a place.

We wrote to you prior to the holidays to inform you of a date for your diary. We will be holding a SATS information and Secondary school choice meeting for Year 6 parents on the 12th of September 2018 at 7pm. We will outline details about the SATS and will make suggestions as to how you can support your child during their last year of . We will re explain the admissions procedures with you in order to give you information about deadline dates and application process and have invited several local secondary schools to attend the event to be on hand to answer questions you may have about their school. We do still strongly recommend that you attend the open events each school holds.

If you are considering applying to Tiffin, or any independent schools, please read through the information on their school website regarding admissions. They have detailed information regarding all aspects of both the application process and the school. Can I take this opportunity to remind you that children in Year 6 will be sitting their SATs during the week of 13th May to 17th May 2019. It is important that they are at school for this week as this is the only time that the children can take these tests. Please ensure that you do not book appointments or go on holiday during this week.

I hope that your children have had a positive and enjoyable first day back at school and look forward to seeing them continue making great progress both here and towards their future at secondary school.

Yours sincerely,

Jane Evans
