PRACTICAL DETAILS The venue for the John Day Conference is the Simpkins Lee Lecture Theatre, Lady Margaret Hall, Norham Gardens, Oxford, OX2 6QA, and the telephone number for the Conference Office is 01865 611079. All visitors should report to the temporary Porter's Lodge at 1 Fyfield Road. For visitors coming to Oxford by car, the recommended route is north Oxford - Banbury Road - Norham Road - Fyfield Road (further details are provided on the Lady Margaret Hall [LMH] website – <www.lmh.ox.ac.uk/Conferences/Maps-and-directions/Directions.aspx>). Parking is limited to only ten spaces for cars at the college, so please use public transport wherever possible. There is a space on the booking form for delegates to indicate their special reasons for needing a car parking space at the college. A Park&Ride service operates every fifteen minutes from Water Eaton (service 500), costing £2 to park and £2.40 return bus fare. After about a 10 minute journey, get off the bus outside the Cotswold Lodge Hotel by the pelican crossing, and walk a few minutes down Norham Road until you reach Fyfield Road, second road on the right. Enter via the Porters' Lodge at 1 Fyfield Road. From the train or bus stations it takes respectively about 20 or 15 minutes on foot through the centre of town and across (or around) the lovely University Parks to get to LMH. The exit from the Parks is the Lady Margaret Gate. Alternatively, you can walk a short distance to Magdalen Street and take a bus from the stop outside Debenhams and Sainsbury’s Local shop, either number 2 (Oxford Bus Company, red bus) or number 7A/7B (Stagecoach, blue bus). The bus journey only takes a few minutes. You need to get off at the Keble Road stop, go to the other side of Banbury Road using the pedestrian crossing, turn left following the corner and the entrance of Norham Gardens is immediately on your left. LMH is at the end of Norham Gardens. Enter via the Porters' Lodge at 1 Fyfield Road. If you prefer not to walk, there are taxi ranks at both stations and, unlike some journeys across the centre of Oxford, this one is (usually) quick and straightforward. For those who have been attending the SOTS Summer Meeting, 21st – 24th July at St Hilda’s College, Lady Margaret Hall is a pleasant half hour walk (approx. 1.3 miles) north past the Oxford city centre, along the High Street, Longwall Street, St Cross Road, and through the University Parks. Local guides will be provided to ensure delegates reach their destination! Alternatively, there will be the option of sharing taxis for the short journey each direction. .
