DAVID GRISMAN QUINTET TO PLAY UNIVERSITY THEATRE

MISSOULA--

The man called “Dawg” will bring his unique blend of acoustic sounds to Missoula for a September concert.

The David Grisman Quintet will perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, in the University

Theatre. Tickets are $21 in advance or $23 the day of the show. They are on sale now at all

Tic-It-E-Z outlets or by calling (888) MONTANA or 243-4051 in Missoula.

Grisman, whose unusual nickname was given him by old friend and late front man , has earned a reputation as a virtuoso mandolinist. Once dubbed “The

Paganini of the ” by The New York Times, Grisman has long impressed critics with his instrumental skill and his talents as a composer and producer. He has had a profound impact on a new generation of musicians.

“Dawg music” calls upon influences as diverse as bluegrass, swing, blues, , Latin and gypsy. The quintet, originally formed in 1975, now includes Sam Bevan on bass, Joe

Craven on acoustic percussion and violin, Enrique Coria on guitar and Matt Eakle on flute.

Since his first recording in 1963 with the Even Dozen , Grisman has performed on dozens of albums with musicians like Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Bela Fleck
